I remember a thread I read a couple of years ago where someone said he failed as a leading man/bankable star due to the fact that he never managed to widely appeal str8 women. Mostly he was considered more of a sex symbol for gay men, which could be in part due to his performances "Shame" and the "X-Men" films.

I don't think his disappearing act was due to a negative career track. He was nominated for Best Actor for the Steve Jobs movie just a few years ago. He got married, had a kid, and wanted to race cars. The latter is a full time commitment, involving lots of money, training, travel and time; he wasn't going to be able to manage a full time acting career plus racing.

NOCTURNAL ANIMALS was atrocious, doubly so after Tom Ford's first movie, A SINGLE MAN was so well received. Ford has not had a new movie in development since ANIMALS seven years ago.

I think Fassbender has some talent but I really hated (and was utterly bored by) STEVE JOBS. I couldn't understand some critics championing that movie. Audiences stayed away, for the most part.

Fassbender just doesn't connect with wide audiences.
