Dame Edna was a truly funny character. A long life for Humpries but still sad.

Posted here many times, but still my favorite. C & C’s extreme amusement is genuine and palpable.

This one really saddens me. I knew it was coming due to his advanced age, but it still saddens me. It's the end of an era.

One of my trans acquaintances is already scolding people.

"Barry Humphries won't see your platitudes but trans people do. I get we all like problematic artists, have have the decency to acknowledge them."

How DARE you mourn someone who made millions of people laugh.

The NYTimes obituary is pretty masterful. It tells how Dame Edna’s fictional daughter Lois was kidnapped by a rogue Koala, yet she never gave up hope finding her. Each time she passed a eucalyptus tree, she would look up.

I remember a bit she also used during an interview about her gynecologist with Parkinson’s disease and shaking hands, “not a bad thing”. Humphries was very quick and clever. His meanest jabs were ad libbed.

Loved her. Saw her perform in San Francisco at the Post St Theater years ago. Truly funny.

She was best in small doses. We went to a live show about 25 years ago and left at intermission. Some of the jokes were pretty stale.

I never knew The Dame had two other children besides Kenny (her dress designer and a practicing homeopath, at least that's what she thinks he said he was), and Valmai (a master of the 5 finger discount). But there was Bruce and Lois before them. I wonder what happened to Bruce.
