Sigourney Weaver aged 73
Sigourney Weaver is an icon and a role model for women across the globe. Not just for the breadth and width of her work as an actress in films as varied as the Alien and Avatar series as well as Gorillas in the Mist, The Ice Storm, Galaxy Quest and Dave; but also in the way she has lived her life and career fully on her own terms.
Weaver has worked consistently over the past 40 years while raising a daughter alongside her husband of over 30 years, stage director Jim Simpson. If she has one defining characteristic, it is her endless curiosity about the world around her. And it is this inquisitiveness that makes her such a delight to watch on screen and to speak with in person.

Her name is Susan. She started going by Sigourney when she was 14. She sounds insufferable.

Ray Liotta told Andy Cohen that Sigourney was a terrible kisser.

I like Sigourney…but usually when a woman has had the career she has had and still NOT awarded by her peers….it means her rep with her peers isn’t as strong as one would think.

I liked her performance in that corny old film Working Girl, and Joan Cusack’s, too. Sigourney has a scene where she’s lying in a hospital bed talking on a telephone when a male hospital orderly or nurse reaches to touch her leg. She swats his hand instinctively without breaking the pace of her phone conversation. It was a really cool bit of physical comedy that was really effective.
Another clever little device featured her character walking ahead of the main character, Tess. Tess is struggling to carry a huge stuffed gorilla on her back. Mike Nichols was aging out of his game at that point, but still got some neat things into that film. Carly Simon’s theme song was popular, like an anthem “Lettttttttt the River Fllllow”. It’s all pretty cringey and cloying now, but at that time was super popular.
