Datalounger Gives Tour Of His Apartment

I approve of this queen's apartment but I don't know if I care for those POOR dead turtles on the wall- I hope they're not real.

The black kitchen is a crime against aesthetics.

I suspect there are a few Dataloungers guilty of this as well, so let me be blunt: when you get older, the unbuttoned polo and tight but trendy blazer combo just makes you look sloppy and unkempt.

by Anonymousreply 1April 20, 2023 1:10 PM

R1- You agree with me that the kitchen is overdone.

I bet him and his husband would be insufferable at dinner parties.

by Anonymousreply 2April 20, 2023 1:14 PM

Absolutely agree with you, r2.

Got to the turtles part and they are sadly real. The skull on his desk is also real, it's the skull of a woman named "Helen." It's childishness masquerading as being edgy.

by Anonymousreply 3April 20, 2023 1:18 PM

💤😴💤

Could this guy be any duller?

by Anonymousreply 4April 20, 2023 1:18 PM

I'm not the type of homosexual who can devote so much time to the aesthetics of my living space- I don't have the ability to decorate either- I'm quite hetero like that- I sometimes wish I had a talent for decorating.

by Anonymousreply 5April 20, 2023 1:21 PM

Is everything for sale? Is that why he rattles off the specs about each and every dazzlingly delightful item cluttering up that apartment?

No thanks, grandpa. Dump it all on eBay and hope for the best.

by Anonymousreply 6April 20, 2023 1:22 PM

I'm sure at this queen's very exclusive dinner parties he makes certain that everyone puts their drinks down on coasters.

by Anonymousreply 7April 20, 2023 1:23 PM

I have to admit those bronze cat andirons are fabulous.

by Anonymousreply 8April 20, 2023 1:25 PM

Honey, a little piece of advice- If you're going to give a tour of your apartment you need to vacuum your rug first- I noticed crumbs on the carpet at 4:57

by Anonymousreply 9April 20, 2023 1:27 PM

So he only has three rooms and a foyer? I'm poor and my Hell's Kitchen railroad apartment is bigger than that.

by Anonymousreply 10April 20, 2023 1:27 PM

Jampacked is the word that comes to mind. So jampacked you can't see anything.

Those turtles look real OP.

And what the FUCK is he wearing?

by Anonymousreply 11April 20, 2023 1:29 PM

They are real OP.

R12- Poor long since dead turtles 😥

by Anonymousreply 13April 20, 2023 1:33 PM

Were those crumbs on the rug, or little bits of the backing fibers sticking up? That art deco rug was lovely but half falling apart.

by Anonymousreply 14April 20, 2023 1:37 PM

"Chaise lounge"—oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 15April 20, 2023 1:37 PM

I noticed he has the framed photos of muscle men on the wall of his bedroom- hmm are those the photos of his fantasy types. Maybe he and his husband hire huge bodybuilder escorts to ravish the both of them because the problem is they're BOTH bottoms.

by Anonymousreply 16April 20, 2023 1:38 PM

Thanks OP, now you owe me a new screen, because mine just burst into flames.

by Anonymousreply 17April 20, 2023 1:39 PM

That GIANT shell of a sink in the bathroom takes pretentiousness to new heights.

by Anonymousreply 18April 20, 2023 1:41 PM

He talks funny.

by Anonymousreply 19April 20, 2023 1:43 PM

Datalounge people I have to take back what I said at the beginning of this thread- I don't approve of this queens apartment after viewing the entire video.

by Anonymousreply 20April 20, 2023 1:44 PM

Hideous. It's like a set decorator created what they thought a wealthy gay's apartment would look like.

by Anonymousreply 21April 20, 2023 1:45 PM

Did I miss something, or did he skip right over the Roman (or Hellenistic?) portrait bust on the chinoiserie commode in his haste to account for the bent steel majolica monkey sconces?

I admire his dedication to maintaining the color of his soul patch and little chin beard.

Please someone give Helen a decent burial.

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2023 1:51 PM

Even the dog thinks it’s a bit much.

by Anonymousreply 23April 20, 2023 1:51 PM

I love the grey poodle.

I hate the "above the bed- crucifix », massive eye-roll to that.

The turtles are just hideous.

by Anonymousreply 24April 20, 2023 1:51 PM

What is a "wedding palace"? Why were the turtles taken from one?

by Anonymousreply 25April 20, 2023 1:53 PM

The apartment itself, even after the redecoration, is nice. I like the foyer and I like the layout of the kitchen. It's the black lacquer, dead turtles, 9000 ceramic poodles in the same shape but different sizes, the Trojan "gigante" kitsch, and poor Helen that really ruin the vibe. They didn't just decorate in their style, they're pathologically self-absorbed and it shows in their decor.

R25 is right. That part really rankled me. Saying "these turtles came from my father's wedding palace in Hawaii in the 1950s and we brought them here recently" without explaining any of that is just pure self-absorption.

by Anonymousreply 26April 20, 2023 1:56 PM

it's really nicely decorated, except for the outdated soul patch

by Anonymousreply 27April 20, 2023 2:00 PM

I think the turtles came from Hawaii but were used in his father's "Hawaiian Room" at Lobitz Hall, actually. Looks like Lobitz's closed in 2017, so that must have been when he took the turtles for himself.

[quote]Lobitz’s Catering in Hazle Twp. closed Aug. 21 [2017] after being operated for 79 years, also by three generations of the family. In its heyday, Lobitz Hall had four rooms — the Fountain Room, the Hawaiian Room, the Mexican Room and its largest, the Safari Room.

That’s a lot of shit!

by Anonymousreply 29April 20, 2023 2:27 PM

R24, crucifix? Murderer alert. He also has a soul patch, he definitely has killed before. Where do u think he buried all those rentboys?

by Anonymousreply 30April 20, 2023 3:24 PM

R16 Everyone in the West Village is a bottom, hon.

by Anonymousreply 31April 20, 2023 3:34 PM

What’s the appropriate reaction to seeing giant, dead turtles on the wall of a home, displayed as art?

“Yum!”

“Crikey!”

“Wow, you must be a total stud, the absolute definition of an Alpha Male!”

Other?

by Anonymousreply 32April 20, 2023 3:47 PM

1) He couldn't be more Robert A.M. Stern Architects, could he? His building designs for that firm all look alike AND are all lost in a nostalgia for the past. Of which he is a very learned expert, and very anal retentive. He's an expert on "the history of luxury multi-residence buildings.

RAMSA has always been the worst cliché of highly nostalgic post-mo neoclassical fetishism. It has obviously never grown as a firm, and with chaps like Mr. Lobitz as partners, it cannot.

2) who is his life "partner"?

3) I don't remember him from Cornell, but he may have a few years on me or have been nondescript on campus. His apartment looks like the apartments in which we 20 somethings were entertained, in the 80s, by MUCH OLDER fancy pants post-ivy antique collecting fags, dripping in locust valley lockjaw. I used to have a fuckbuddy from Cornell architecture who was in this crowd later in NY, and I still can't place this man. By the way my fuckbud had a huge cock and a better starter apartment then this guy has now, 40 years later! And it was filled with Corbusier, not marble plinths and chinoiserie. This man's place is a boner killer!

4) What a throwback. What a dinosaur this guy and his apartment is. The apartment is very soigné and stuffed and detailed and sculpted and trimmed like a gilded age banquet at Delmonico's. You can admire the good taste and composition of every one meter square vignette, but the total impact = à vomir.

Now I ask you, if you were going to build a "classy" 50-story stone clad tower, and you were invited for cocktails at this RAMSA partner's lair, would you hire RAMSA for your 750 million - 1 billion dollar project?

by Anonymousreply 33April 20, 2023 6:51 PM

If those walls could talk, they'd hiss.

by Anonymousreply 34April 20, 2023 7:01 PM

Doesn't Andy Cohen live in the same apartment building --- 2 Horatio Street?

by Anonymousreply 35April 20, 2023 7:06 PM

I want to hit him.

by Anonymousreply 36April 20, 2023 7:12 PM

2 Horatio doesn't have west exposure, except maybe that flanker wing off the back, down Greenwich Ave. "Van Gogh" would have south and west exposure.
