I also heard in one of the docus/shows on them that he toured with Menudo (?) or there was some sort of somewhat close association between them. I watched the entire first trial. There was a point where the defense team showed the negatives of a roll of film of one of the son's birthday parties. On that same roll of film, there is a picture of a naked boy in the bathtub focused on his torso/genitals. That's not a normal picture of little Erik in the tub like Ernie from Sesame Street.

I totally believe there was improper behavior on the part of the father. No, they should not have killed their parents.

They read the victims stories and used that information in their testimony. They could have left , they were grown men who had every opportunity to move out of their parents home. I have always questioned the sexual abuse allegations.

1. Jose Menendez had a reputation for being a serial adulterer, someone who was constantly having affairs with adult women. Now, I’m no expert on pedophilia, but I’ve never heard of someone who lusts after adult females also having sexual desire for pre-pubescent boys, including his own biological offspring. Yes, I’ve heard of married men molesting boys, but their wives are usually beards and there are no other adult women in the picture. If it’s true that Jose Menendez was a homosexual pedophile as well as a heterosexual womanizer, then that would make his sexual profile extremely rare.

2. All evidence points towards Jose Menendez being a highly authoritarian parent, the kind of dad who ruled with an iron fist and demanded complete obedience from his children. In my experience, again, I’m no expert on this, I’ve always heard that sexually abusive parents tend to be very permissive. They are the kind of parents who let their kids drink and smoke pot and stay out all night, not do their homework, etc. I’ve always found it odd that the same dad who would lose his shit because one of his sons got an A- or came in second in a competition is the same dad who would want to sneak off to the bedroom to have sex with his boys. There is a disconnect there.

These are two reasons why I’ve always been skeptical of the allegations of sexual abuse. Jose Menendez was definitely emotionally and verbally abusive—all the evidence clearly points to that; however, all the sexual stuff just doesn’t really add up.

Erik and Lyle obviously did kill their parents, but they should never have been sentenced to life in prison without parole. 20 years would have been more than enough, especially for Erik. This was a complete travesty of justice by a rogue, incompetent judge.

He was definitely a bully and he probably expected too much from his sons, but many parents are verbally abusive tyrants. Kitty seemed to be very submissive to Jose but not abusive. The sons never displayed any remorse for what they did. That isn't normal. Most people would feel some regret, sorrow, grief that they had taken the life of two people, their parents, even if they had been victims of abuse or felt their life was in danger. Those two were stone cold, seemingly unaffected by the brutality of their actions. They went out immediately and bought cars, expensive watches, clothing, and even a restaurant. Not a care in the world, not one bit of grief or regret. They read books on child sexual abuse while in jail awaiting trial. When they took the stand their testimony did not ring true. They did not seem genuine, but contrived. They never looked like anything more than two spoiled, entitled sociopaths. People who are we're not born yet or too young to remember that trial do not understand why those of us who did are convinced of their guilt and believe the claims of abuse aren't true. This case almost received the same media coverage as Simpson. We had the late, great Dominick Dunne covering the trial for Vanity Fair. We knew everything that happened when it happened. Those two little psychopaths are guilty.

Books like that are not allowed in a jail (I know because I go inside a jail) so one of the brothers would have had to known the title and author to get a person on the outside to go buy it *and* bring it inside. Jails do not keep books about sex abuse in there with tons of sexual offenders! So the book would need to be smuggled in. Who would do that favor of getting that type of book to them and why….and in the middle of their trials?!? No way — unless it was the Abramson trial team, preparing their clients to be cross examined. Much more likely someone suggested they read stories of other survivor’s journeys, it was likely a way they could identify with as abuse survivors and begin their healing journey from sex abuse. But I have not tried to verify my claim, so this is just speculation on my part.

I watched the Peacock series. It was quite sad. A lot of it focused on the Menudo manager Edgardo Diaz and the accusations brought on by Roy Rosello. Roy said that Edgardo raped and molested him numerous times and Edgardo's mother was aware of what her piece of shit son was doing. Deceased Menudo member Ray Reyes said in an audio recording that Edgardo was a pedophile. . Ralphy Rodriguez refused to be interviewed for the docuseries stood by previous accusations he made against Edgardo on Crisitina's talk show in the 90s.

Jose Menendez signed Menudo to RCA Records and became pals with Edgardo Diaz. Back in the 90s, journalist Robert Rand said that Jose's former assistant told him that Jose was obsessed with Menudo. Erik said in phone calls with Robert Rand that Jose would fly to Menudo concerts around the world and that some of the Menudo members visited their house. Roy said that he and Edgardo visited the Menendez home in New Jersey. He said it was there where Jose gave him wine and later raped in an upstairs bedroom.

Kitty's niece Diane and her sister Joan were also interviewed. They have anger towards Kitty for not doing anything to protect her boys.

I once read about a rabbi who was molesting his teen male students. After investigation began, officers somehow came to learn that he was also plotting to rape the mother of one of the boys. It's not rare for sex abusers of boys to be attracted to women or girls, especially if the boys are prepubescent as opposed to pubescent, as you can see in the study below. A history of heterosexual relationships is very common among sex offenders against boys (surely more common than among normal gay men), and I have no idea how you, who admit that you're no expert in the subject, would know that their female partners are merely beards as a rule.

Rumors of Jose Menendez being obsessed with and sexually abusing Menudo members have been around for FOREVER.

There are pictures of Jose Menendez at Menudo concerts. The pic below is him at a concert of theirs in 1984 in Brazil.

Back in 1991 Bolivar Arellano, a photographer who worked with the group some, stated nine boys were raped by their manager Edgardo Diaz and seven more boys were raped by music executives, which is what Jose Menendez was.

In 1994, Steve Wax, a colleague of Jose, stated Jose would joke about the abuse allegations in Menudo. Mind you, 1990 is when the abuse accusations became public after former members went on a talk show. Jose died in 1989 so he was joking about it before it was public information.

In 1994 a daily news article said it's now "coming to light" that a Menudo member had been "inappropriately touched" by Jose. Said article included a quote from Leslie Abramson, the brothers' defense attorney, who stated they were aware of the Menudo member but declined to subpoena him as "he had a career" and believed the brothers' testimony was enough.

In 1999 there was the infamous rumor mill that Ricky Martin was sexually assaulted by Jose in a car, wherein Jose attempted to pull his pants down and touch him, but Ricky of course denied it, and his PR person at the time stated he never even met Jose. Which was swiftly answered by people bringing up a pic of Menudo, Edgardo, and Jose, with Ricky Martin having literally just joined and standing alongside to the boy he replaced (Ricky Melendez).

In 1999 the prosecutor David Conn said “I remember hearing an allegation that Jose Menendez had molested someone in Menudo.”

in 2003 on the Larry King show Dr. Vicary and David Conn were two guests, and Vicary said there were Menudo members who had been molested by Jose (and were in the entertainment business...) but chose to not come forward with a public statement. Conn states "We saw no reliable evidence during the trial that was true. We heard about that rumor and I don't think that was substantiated." (His wording is interesting... somebody's word can be used as evidence and "I don't think" indicates more an opinion ie not stating they investigated and found it to be false).

In 2022 Ash Ruiz a Menudo member from 1991-1995 stated he heard rumors of Edgardo having pimped the boys out to get the RCA contract. Jose was the one who gave Menudo the RCA contract in 1983. This is what Roy Rossello just now accused Edgardo of doing to him, stating he believes Menudo got the contract because Edgardo pimped him out to Jose.

I watched this doc and came here for the comments. DL never disappoints. I was shocked that the brother of one of the other Menudo members admitted that everyone in Menudo knew that Roy was being raped and beaten constantly for years since the age of 13. They just saw it as a “relationship” , the other members said they were jealous because they thought he was getting special privileges from Diaz, that he was basically fucking his way to the top. They said that they didn’t realize at the time that a child can’t give consent. 13 was the age when Menendez raped him, too. He was offered up as a gift to Jose when RCA signed a $30 million contract with Menudo. I did some research on Roy’s life since then and it’s a mess. As of 2016, he fathered five children with five different women in multiple countries, had several pending paternity suits, and had been arrested for non-payment of child support, so he could have a bunch more kids by now. He had his first kid when he was 15 years old. The abuse seems to have really done a number on him.

Rosie obviously didn’t believe the abuse allegations thirsty years ago, despite what she claims. Roy’s story changed her mind. She clearly wasn’t giving a shit about the Menendez brothers for all these years.
