I thought I would side with the airline but no. The airline gave popcorn to the kids for their amusement. Asking a pregnant woman to pick it up is beyond reason. If airlines are a transportation industry they also have a significant hospitality function. Maybe the flight attendant was exasperated to glimpse the floor dirtied with spilled popcorn, but the simple solution is to offer, 'Ma'am, if you wouldn't mind taking your children for one moment, I have to clean the floor the floor before we land.' Policing the skies and basically asking her the equivalent of, 'Bitch, your kids made the mess, you clean it up -- while I watch you with a smirk on my face,' is neither transportation- nor hospitality-related. I've heard that flight attendants aren't getting paid for the boarding/unboarding time, just for when the plane is in flight. So if I'm correct, then if the flight attendant has to get out the hand vacuum while the plane is making a short stop on the ground, then that person is doing unpaid labor!

So yes, the real problem there is with an airline that demands unpaid overtime from its employees, but it also explains why flight attendants are less willing to take shit from sloppy passengers.
