Does anyone else have the coughing virus going around?

Very sick, with every symptom in the book, and nagging cough.

Covid tests (both kinds) came back negative! ???

Got my flu shot.

I haven't been this sick in years. I had covid, and it wasn't as bad as this!

by Anonymousreply 123April 22, 2023 2:46 PM

About two months ago, approximately 3 months after recovering from Covid, my mother caught this. My sister armchair-diagnosed it as RSV but I’m not sure it was. Her cough was ridiculous, far worse than Covid, but the worst symptom was that it turned into an eye infection. When she pressed on her eye, a milky substance squirted out, lots & lots of it. Ugh. They gave her antibiotic pills & eye drops & she got better in like a week.

by Anonymousreply 1April 16, 2023 5:48 AM

Been there, had that two months ago. Felt wretched, coughed continually. Cold medication, Acetylcysteine effervescent tablets and 10 days bed rest did the trick. Also negative Covid test. I still have a bit of a lingering cough.

Haven't had it. Don't know anyone who has had it.

But, then again, my friends and I are smart enough to wear a mask when we are around people in indoor spaces.

Enjoy your shiny, new viruses.

by Anonymousreply 6April 16, 2023 6:00 AM

A friend had it. What is it,?

by Anonymousreply 7April 16, 2023 6:46 AM

Yes! Got it 5 weeks ago and still can't quite shake the cough.

by Anonymousreply 8April 16, 2023 7:06 AM

Get checked for whooping cough aka pertussis, RSV, and bronchitis. If it's bronchitis, it can turn into pneumonia if you aren't treated. This happened to me, and I was hospitalized. Whooping cough can last 3 months, but if antibiotics are given early enough, it will shorten the duration. Friends have had RSV in the last week. Hope you get well soon, OP.

by Anonymousreply 9April 16, 2023 7:20 AM

Lol r5, would you believe I am literally the last person at work who wears a mask?!

And k95 at that.

I think it might have actually made it worse. I have no faith in them anymore.

by Anonymousreply 10April 16, 2023 7:40 AM

New flu from China.

It called Beijing Bronchitis.

by Anonymousreply 11April 16, 2023 7:46 AM

Had it - 3 months out of my life with endless coughing, lethargy/exhaustion. Never tested positive for Covid. Doctor sufficiently concerned that I was referred for every test under the sun (NHS is still great in some parts of the UK). Nothing sinister in results but I have now been added to the list of those suffering from ‘Long Covid’.

by Anonymousreply 12April 16, 2023 7:57 AM

The eye problems are a symptom of the newest strain of Covid, r1. Causes conjunctivitis (pink eye) and weeping pus-like discharge. Covid can also replicate in the retina cells.

The cough could be due to Covid’s ruination of the immune system, leaving ppl much more vulnerable to all other infections (as well as more Covid), and unable to fight the invasive pathogens off. It’s airborne HIV. May damn well prove to be an extinction level event within the decade.

As for masks, fit tested N95s and elastomeric respirators are the only things that really offer protection now: even KN95s may not be effective at preventing the latest Covid variants, which are getting more and more immune system evasive and vaccine evasive and transmissible with each wave of mutations. The latest variants also seem to evade test detection, so ppl get false negatives and assume their illness isn’t Covid when it very well may be Covid.

by Anonymousreply 13April 16, 2023 8:11 AM

But President Biden declared the Covid crisis is over, it is no longer a threat, and we can all go back to normal.

by Anonymousreply 14April 16, 2023 1:38 PM

It's all covid. The tests just aren't picking up whatever shit strain you are all busy passing around.

R13 is full of shit concerning the extinction and mask parts of his post.

[quote]I think it might have actually made it worse. I have no faith in them anymore.

That's like saying you have no faith in gravity anymore because you fell down.

by Anonymousreply 15April 16, 2023 1:39 PM

Last autumn I got the double whammy of the winter flu shot and another Covid booster. I think I got Covid a month ago but it was mild. And I've had a couple sniffles this winter but nothing major.

Vaccines work.

by Anonymousreply 16April 16, 2023 1:59 PM

I've been coughing off and on for a week. Yesterday was intense with coughing/phlegm. I'm also making a rattling noise when I breathe, which is really annoying at night. Other than that, I feel fine. I'm thinking of going to the doctor to get it checked out.

by Anonymousreply 17April 16, 2023 2:04 PM

I have right now; third day of it. Today the cough is lessened but the drainage in epic. Kleenex galore.

Home COVID test -- negative

I am hoping it clears quickly but I am not so sure it will after riding this thread.

by Anonymousreply 18April 16, 2023 2:22 PM

Sorry you are not feeling well, op.

I have not heard about this illness.

Covid is still making it's rounds and I wear a mask and try to SD when I can.

by Anonymousreply 19April 16, 2023 2:45 PM

Take Mucinex. I used it for post nasal drip (allergies) and it cleared me right up. Should help with coughing too.

by Anonymousreply 20April 16, 2023 2:49 PM

I don't think these covid home tests are accurate!

by Anonymousreply 21April 16, 2023 2:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 28April 16, 2023 4:27 PM

My roommate and I got this crud too almost 2 months ago, and we're still having lingering symptoms. I tested weak positive for covid throughout. You could barely see the pink line on the tests. Check the test carefully in bright light. Any visible line is a positive result.

The illness built up for weeks. Mild respiratory irritation, runny nose, light cough. This lasted a couple weeks. Then the eye goo, waking up with my eyes crusted shut. Then the coughing. Lots of phlegm. 2-3 weeks in, I began coughing up and nose blowing blood and green and brown bloody scabs and chunks of mucus. That went on 2 more weeks, then slowly subsided. My ears also had a mild discharge for several days, and I had sinus pain and a sinus headache for a week or so. Now I have the occasional bout of coughing but it's definitely improving.

Mucinex worked quite well for me too - it cleared up the gunk for several hours at a time and seemed to quiet the cough. I use Costco's Kirkland brand of short-acting guaifenesin, cheap and effective. Doc prescribed benzonatate/Tessalon for the cough, but I found that drug to be nasty - made me dizzy and drowsy and didn't really help the cough. They're prescribing that because they can't prescribe codeine or promethazine anymore.

All this reminds me, I'm going to test for covid again today.

by Anonymousreply 29April 16, 2023 8:10 PM

Where do you people live? No one I know is sick and I haven't heard of any new virus. My pollen allergies are very bad this year but I'm not sick otherwise. I covid test weekly and still negative there too.

by Anonymousreply 30April 16, 2023 8:17 PM

If you are doing a home test for Covid, swab the back of your mouth ( 5 circles) and then your nose. The exact same home tests in UK have this as instructions. The same ( US)test just says to swab your nose. Also see Dr Michael Mina on Twitter regarding. Within an hour, I did 4 home tests. 2 just nose swabs were negative. Two with mouth and nose swabs, as directed by Dr Mina were positive. This was Dec 2021 with the original Omicron variant.

by Anonymousreply 31April 16, 2023 9:58 PM

This lingered from January, and was treated like bronchitis. The third doctor's visit they got serious about it: antibiotics, a steroid, and an albuterol inhaler . . . those cleared it up & now I feel it creeping back, little coughs, etc. I have wondered about mold in our office ductwork.

by Anonymousreply 32April 16, 2023 10:07 PM

Midwest r30. It's been cold here forever. Had a quick warm-up but it's snowing again now, getting another foot or more tonight.

by Anonymousreply 33April 16, 2023 10:10 PM

[quote] If you are doing a home test for Covid, swab the back of your mouth ( 5 circles) and then your nose.

I thought there was a danger in sticking things up your nose because there isn’t much barrier between there and your brain and your really don’t want bacteria in that area? So I would stick a swab up there if I had to do a COVID test, but I’m not comfortable sticking it in my mouth first.

I could be totally off base here.

by Anonymousreply 34April 16, 2023 10:23 PM

I had this in February all the way through March. Tested negative for COVID. No fever or generalized aching like I usually get with flu, just constant coughing and exhaustion. I coughed so much I bruised my ribs.

by Anonymousreply 35April 16, 2023 10:31 PM

I have it and am entering my 4th week.

I thought for a long time it was a cold, until I realized it’s all in my chest. The coughing was constant and deep, like a barking cough. I had a lot of fatigue, too. I’m almost over it at this point. It never occurred to me to take a Covid test.

by Anonymousreply 36April 16, 2023 11:03 PM

Follow the instructions in your covid test and don't take any advice here seriously. Whether you know you have covid or not, the protocol for being sick with a respiratory illness is the same: quarantine, mask, wash your hands and keep your distance. The results of a covid test are not worth getting a brain infection over.

by Anonymousreply 37April 17, 2023 12:35 AM

by Anonymousreply 43April 17, 2023 1:35 AM

I’ve had it for about a month. Took a RAT yesterday. Negative for COVID.

by Anonymousreply 44April 17, 2023 2:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 45April 17, 2023 2:53 AM

This is true. I thought what I had was a cold, but after several days I could tell it was just allergies. I’m always allergic to pollen but this year was much worse than average.

by Anonymousreply 46April 17, 2023 2:55 AM

Let’s all remember that this is tree jism.

We’re all inhaling it and there’s nothing to do about it. It’s why trees laugh at you. Fuckers.

by Anonymousreply 47April 17, 2023 2:58 AM

I had some coughing thing, but I thought it was allergies. Now, I'm curious.

by Anonymousreply 48April 17, 2023 2:59 AM

R57 is a true idiot or just too lazy to spend 5 minutes researching a bit, people coined "immunity debt" on social media to get clicks, but the "rise" was well documented through clinical research and published on medical journals, what's the cause? Non-conclusive so far!

by Anonymousreply 58April 17, 2023 5:47 AM

r58 immunity debt just means the lack of exposure 2 the virus leave u no immunity when the real bitch virus kicks, which makes u sicker

this is why u get vaccine, not mysterious at all

r62 the idea of "immunity debt" is u have 2 do it in controlled measures, u cannot just unmask & let all kind of viruses pass through & mutates in ur body.

the idea is 2 regularly get a vaccine, which is a controlled exposure 2 a weakened version of the virus, so that ur bodies prep when bad virus pop in, in spite of various precautions.

by Anonymousreply 64April 17, 2023 6:04 AM

No, it's not R64. That is nowhere near what the social media bullshit "immunity debt" means in reference to Covid and other viruses that have followed it.

Also, the words are 'to', 'you', and 'your'. And, capital letters exist for a reason. What the fuck is wrong with you?

by Anonymousreply 65April 17, 2023 6:10 AM

by Anonymousreply 66April 17, 2023 6:19 AM

I read in the local med faculty warning that the Pfizer booster and the LAAB treatment can't stop the infection and spreading of the new strain. And if there is a problem with PM2. 5 particles in your area, this strain will cause even more terrifying symptoms.

Thank you, shithole China for your ever mutating bioterror plague!

by Anonymousreply 67April 17, 2023 9:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 69April 17, 2023 11:39 AM

by Anonymousreply 70April 17, 2023 11:45 AM

r69 officially, this is some new weird flu virus, since the optic of COVID terror looks bad on politician, so they will call it some influenza a 2 claim victory over COVID

but scientifically, it's COVID omicron

by Anonymousreply 71April 17, 2023 1:54 PM

I find it amusing that the usual suspects have gone in hard against the immunity debt theory, when in fact they've been pushing it for years on just about everything else. Based on their own science, we have been anti-bacterial wiping ourselves into sickness and they even had the receipts to back it up. It's not that far of a leap to think that people who have been closed off for 2 years would be more susceptible to certain illnesses after emerging from their bubbles.

Those people happy about not having colds or flu for the last two years are going to really get hit hard when they do eventually leave the house and take their masks off.

by Anonymousreply 82April 18, 2023 11:35 PM

I've had a nagging cough, fatigue, shortness of breath and a lot of phlegm for the past 10 days. I was basically ignoring this and taking nothing. Yesterday morning, I went to urgent care and was told I have bronchitis. I was prescribed Benzonatate, Doxycycline, an inhaler and Prednisone. Feeling better already. I did an at home test for Covid and urgent care tested me as well, both came back negative.

by Anonymousreply 83April 18, 2023 11:52 PM

These at home tests are inaccurate

by Anonymousreply 84April 19, 2023 12:06 AM

So are the rapid tests given in healthcare settings. You need a full lab-based test which takes a minimum of a couple of hours to get accurate results.

by Anonymousreply 85April 19, 2023 8:47 AM

Took me 3 months to get over my RSV, OP. My doctor told me to take B6 and B12 supplements - within a week the coughing was almost entirely over.

by Anonymousreply 86April 19, 2023 8:55 AM

dextromethorphan + guaifenesin + terpin tablets can be really helpful for covid coughing.

This thread is alarming. Feel better everyone.

[quote]terpin tablets can be really helpful for covid coughing

If it wasn't for the Pirin tablets, I don't think I could go on.

by Anonymousreply 89April 19, 2023 2:24 PM

Finally went to the doctor. Diagnosed it as bronchitis. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

by Anonymousreply 90April 20, 2023 2:24 AM

It was AWFUL Monday night. I ached so much, especially my head, but all over as well, and hot. Couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep. Finally took two Tylenol because Aspirin wasn't cutting it and was able to drift off for a few hours. Woke up COMPLETELY DRENCHED in sweat. Wet clothes and hair. I thought I peed the bed. It was sweat. And it smelled like that gross wet dog burnt toast smell that invades your nose when you have Covid, which is BIZARRE. Mind you, my smell and taste are intact with this illness. Anyway, the pain was GONE! I changed into clean clothes and went back to sleep. Since that day, I have been improving. I still cough up phglem and feel a bit dizzy if I move quickly. My heart sometimes pounds too.

Covid, RSV, Legionaire's disease, flu??!!

I am in the Northeast Capital District area. Lots of people with the same phglemy cough in stores, at work, etc. But maybe I got a bad case?

Vaxxed and a mask holdout. I don't go to social gatherings.

by Anonymousreply 91April 20, 2023 7:43 AM

And when I went to urgent care, they just said it was "a virus", that my lungs were clear (?!) , and take OTC cough meds.

by Anonymousreply 92April 20, 2023 7:45 AM

If you’re that sick don’t trust urgent care. Go see your internist?

by Anonymousreply 93April 20, 2023 11:09 AM

by Anonymousreply 94April 20, 2023 1:10 PM

I know tons of people who have had this, whatever it is. One of my best friends in NY has had it twice and she said even though the cough is gone it takes everything she has to get out of bed. It worries me, because she is one of the more energetic people I have ever met! She is certain that both times that she caught it from her toddler who brought it home from the petri dish of a day care he attends.

by Anonymousreply 95April 20, 2023 1:22 PM

It's going around and people are over it in a couple of days.

by Anonymousreply 96April 20, 2023 1:34 PM

I did R31's suggestion - negative test, but I'm feeling better and my last + covid test was 2 wks ago. The UK instructions are better IMO than what I've received with tests in the US.

Until the mid-1980s, my family had relatives in Wisconsin who would mail us care packages of terpin hydrate+codeine cough syrup each winter. Both products were still OTC in WI. I'd forgotten about terps.

When I was sick, I had R91's stench. I didn't realize it was related to the illness. But it was a peculiar, musky animal stank. Interesting.

The latest version of C-19 is called Arcturus XBB.1.16. Reports say it causes conjunctivitis in children. But I've known a few adults including myself who got conjunctivitis with their latest covids. As usual US officials say this variant isn't widespread in the US. But then they said there was no covid-19 in the US until Jan 2020, when later research showed people in the US were infected as early as autumn 2019. Strange that I can't find those articles online anymore, and all official sources say in unison that there was no C-19 in the US until 2020.

Because it's allergies, R104. Hysterical OP and everyone else "freaking out" over this "new coughing virus" is reacting to ALLERGY SEASON.

There is no "coughing virus." People have colds and cold-like symptoms like they always do this time of year. OP is working everyone up into a tizzy with invented viruses.

by Anonymousreply 105April 21, 2023 11:33 AM

r105 It isn't allergy season in Australia and they are having this same thing going around. I agree that "coughing virus" is not the best name for it, but it does describe the general feel of it. I am both relieved and concerned to have found this thread. I thought it was just me dealing with this.

by Anonymousreply 106April 21, 2023 3:35 PM

I had a fever, a massive head ache, a bit of nausea, massive fatigue, and joint pain. Went to the urgent care and they tested me and told me I had COVID. About 3 days later my slight cough turned into a monster that was totally non stop. I coughed constantly. Could not talk because I would cough. Go to the doctor and he x rays me and gives me a script for the coughing, and antibiotics. Then I got Prednisone. He said I had bronchitis but no pneumonia. I was totally miserable. The fever lasted about 5 days. My ribs were sore my throat raw and I felt like I ru0ptured something just under the breastbone where thee ribs merge? A muscle. Like hiatal hernia. It was horrible. It took me two fucking months to regain my strength. Two months.

R106, it's cold season in Australia. "This thing" is common respiratory illness, not a "new virus."

The hysteria here is disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 108April 21, 2023 4:23 PM

You have quite a liberal definition of "hysteria." And "disgusting," for that matter.

by Anonymousreply 109April 21, 2023 4:28 PM

Yes, it really sounds like r107 just "had a bad cold". or "serious allergies". Jesus, 2 months of that? My heart goes out to you. I am just getting over this (don't want to jinx it) and while it wasn't quite as bad as what you went through, it was bad enough to have me scared. And holy fuck, the incessant violent coughing. My neighbors likely hate me more than I hate myself and that's saying something. I'm about 6 weeks in, and hopefully it is finally wrapping up, but I was tricked before so...fingers crossed.

These home COVID tests seem to have become worse than useless, and perhaps have been all along. Negative (nearly always) or "positive" (a wee bit of something that could just be dust), they weren't helping me feel better either way. So this new cootie in town is something totally unrelated, though doubtful, a variant that doesn't show up on tests, the tests suck, or a combo platter of all the above.

It's in L.A. now. Pink eye is apparently the main "tell" that it is the Arcturus variant, where before that side effect was more rare. I don't know how to do that thing to get around a paywall, hopefully this will be a free article as it is a public health matter.

I have a slight cough which isn't as severe as what is described here. I am getting over covid. It has been two months and I am severely fatigued. Even doing light housework wears me out. Basically I do not move at all unless I have to and I seem to have a headache everyday I am just always exhausted.

by Anonymousreply 111April 21, 2023 5:05 PM

One thing that happened to me as I was finally getting over it wsa how long the fatigue lingered, as well as some joint pain. My doctor discovered thru blood work that I was anemic and I had vitamin deficiencies. I started getting Vitamin B 12 shots every other week and had to take supplemental Iron, Vitamin C and D 3. I can't say whether COVID "caused" this, but I started taking vitamins and forcing myself to start walking again (outdoor exercise type walking.) and I gradually started feeling better. Two weeks in I had my energy back and the joint pain was mostly gone. So if you're getting over RSV or COVID, or WTF ever, a cold, start doing vitamins. It will help you get back on your feet faster. You'll feel better.

Better tomhave a liberal definition of "hysteria" than "virus," R109.

Not a single person here has posted any evidence of a new virus. People are describing common cold symptoms and several are revealing actual diagnoses of Covid, bronchitis, pneumonia, etc. not "a new coughing virus."

If you don't think this is exactly how hysteria starts, you're either an idiot or an intentional misinformation troll. I'm betting the latter the way DL is overrun with trolls these days.

I felt very lucky and relieved because I only felt lethargic and had some muscle aches. My fever and other symptoms only lasted about a week. But this fatigue lingers and it is almost debilitating.

[quote] Pediatrician Vipin M. Vashishtha, a member of the World Health Organization’s Vaccine Safety Net program, also noted a rise in cases of “itchy conjunctivitis with sticky eyes” in India that appear to be to be associated with XBB.1.16, although no studies have yet been published to confirm the linkage.

You will not be able to convince people to wear face masks.

^According to the story, 12 employees out of 3500, or 0.3%, have tested positive.

And we don't need no stinking masks. Even in a health care facility.

I was sick and tested positive for Parainfluenza virus type 3 a few days ago. I was negative for pneumonia. They said it was the croup, which I didn't think adults got. It was something more like a bad case of bronchitis. Got a z pack, some benzonatate and albuterol and I'm much better.

Whatever it was, it was worse than when I had covid last year.

by Anonymousreply 121April 22, 2023 2:19 PM

Someone upthread pointed out that a covid infection ruins your immune system and makes you vulnerable to diseases that are atypical, like croup.

by Anonymousreply 122April 22, 2023 2:29 PM

I got the gobloots.
