In other words, she wants a first class seat for steerage prices. Fuck. Her. She shouldn't be flying anyway because she's likely to drop dead due to her blood pressure.

by Anonymousreply 6April 16, 2023 2:03 AM

As an on-again, off-again fatty who has had to always watch what I eat and exercise to keep off the pounds I will say, you are not plus-sized honey. You're a big fat loudmouth.

Yes, it can have some benefits... well, one really. The confused "straight" guys with mommy issues love the fat boys and their soft asses and titties, but other than that, fat is grotesque and FYI I am currently fatter than I'd like to be, so I can say these things.

by Anonymousreply 11April 16, 2023 2:09 AM

Gurl is not going to like this new FAA Policy:

FAA policy forbids aircraft personnel from supplying food or beverage to anyone weighing over 350 pounds when aircraft is in flight. This policy must be strictly followed to prevent risk to travelers and the structural integrity of aircraft lavatories.

by Anonymousreply 12April 16, 2023 2:11 AM

I am fat. I don't think I would need two seats but if I ever get fat enough to even wonder if I do I will buy them. No one should have to give up half their seat for someone else they don't even know. Rent a minivan and shush.

by Anonymousreply 13April 16, 2023 2:12 AM

also, if fat people should get free seats then skinny people should get a discount. maybe all seating should be charged/priced by the pound of the passenger.

by Anonymousreply 14April 16, 2023 2:14 AM

They can ship you like cargo how would you like that.

by Anonymousreply 15April 16, 2023 2:14 AM

There is no way she’s gonna fit in a lavatory on the newer planes. Yet alone be able to wipe her ass. Guess she’ll just have to wear a diaper. Did you know adult diapers come in sizes big enough to fit an 84 inch waist? Well now you do.

by Anonymousreply 16April 16, 2023 2:16 AM

I'm sorry, but we shouldn't get to a point where this is deemed acceptable. I don't want the woman humiliated, but I'm really tired of this shit where you become as entitled as a smoker or parents who expect you to give up a seat. That's who this woman is. She expects others to sacrifice for her.

One of the last times I flew (on JetBlue), I was seated in an exit row next to an absolutely enormous woman who was way over into my seat. Thankfully, it was only about an hour flight, but I literally spent it hunched up against the opposite armrest.

I weigh about half what I was when I was my heaviest, so I'm more sympathetic than I can say, but I can't believe she didn't pick up on the looks of steaming hot death I kept shooting her. And of course I can't say anything, because then I'm the asshole.

There's a reason that, with the rise in my income that's come as I transition from residency/fellowship to attending life, I'm flying First more often.

by Anonymousreply 19April 16, 2023 2:52 AM

At this point most Americans are fat and are only going to get fatter so I don’t see why they shouldn’t be accommodated.

My mind was blown when I went to the mall for the first time in years and I saw all the fat mannequins they have in women’s shops now. Big wide ass mannequins! The ones at Victorias Secret are massive!

At first I was like Wtf but then I realized well most women today are fat and look like that.

So why make it harder for OVER half the population?

About a year and a half ago, there was a post on a physician Facebook group that I belong to where a gynecologist was asking if anyone could take a patient that her practice could no longer accommodate, because at 600-lbs, the woman was too heavy for their exam tables.

It reminded me of a guy I started residency with, who'd told me during his OB rotation in med school, he'd helped deliver a woman who was so big, they had to tape her fat rolls to the walls in order to be able to get to her vagina.

by Anonymousreply 27April 16, 2023 3:29 AM

[quote]he'd helped deliver a woman who was so big, they had to tape her fat rolls to the walls in order to be able to get to her vagina.

Wait. This huge woman was pregnant???

by Anonymousreply 28April 16, 2023 3:32 AM

Nursing staff at rehab or nursing homes routinely veto taking on hugely obese patients. Nurses simply refuse on grounds of their own safety and that of patient in question. Upshot is patients who don't need to be in hospital remain because there isn't any place for them to go otherwise. If not able to be discharged to home care or anyone will take them on/in, that's that.

by Anonymousreply 32April 16, 2023 4:20 AM

May also have involved a third party there to assist actual coitus, I'm not sure. I've heard of that happening with morbidly obese mothers.

If 10% of flyers are plus size then 10% of the seats should be plus size as well.

Also tall folks like Sandy Allen & Andre The Giant couldn't even have a choice of seating & you could forget about using the bathroom at their heights plus bending over to walk around the plane is also a slap in the face in this day & age to tall folks.

by Anonymousreply 45April 16, 2023 4:47 AM

R45 You're just plain stupid. There was a woman on a talk show about 20 years ago that folks made fun of due to her size (she probably weighed 600-700 pounds) but her body produced large tumors on her lower half of her body (the video showed what she looked like under her pants) that strangers would assume was because she was overeating just like your dumb ass would.

Bottom line she had a medical condition.

by Anonymousreply 64April 16, 2023 5:13 AM

R53, let's make something perfectly clear: I don't care if someone is overweight or even obese, but when it gets to a point where you become as burdensome as fparents or pet owners with this sense of entitlement where we have to bend over backwards for them, then fuck off.

I struggled with my weight growing up and I understand that a lot of people eat due to problems in their lives and there's comfort there, but we shouldn't enable that behavior by making it easier to get that large and to stay that way. This is a ridiculous hill to die on for you. I don't believe in humiliating people for being like this, but I also shouldn't have to deal with it when flying in itself is a nightmare. We shouldn't be making it easier to get that large by accommodating it, we should help people struggling with their weight. Stop embracing it. It's unhealthy and uncomfortable for people made to sit next to people that large.

by Anonymousreply 65April 16, 2023 5:15 AM

R65 Airlines get billions from overweight passengers (plus the over 6'6" crowd) every year

so I don't think it's "bending over backwards for them" but just good business sense & good manners.

by Anonymousreply 66April 16, 2023 5:23 AM

R65 Fat people aren't going away just because you invented

by Anonymousreply 67April 16, 2023 5:25 AM

If you can’t beat them, join them.

by Anonymousreply 68April 16, 2023 5:27 AM

Minimal seat sizes need to be drastically upsized for all classes and people need to start being charged by the pound to fly.

by Anonymousreply 69April 16, 2023 5:28 AM

Someone years ago invented a seat that looked the inside of a piano for movie theatres.

You sat down & then pulled the arm rests down from the back of the seat which also had soft arm rests (so you basically made your own size seat depending on your size) but they were rejected.

This could've been passed by law for all public places = theaters, buses, planes, trains, etc. so that everyone would be seated comfortably but it has never happened in any nation or city that I'm aware of.

by Anonymousreply 70April 16, 2023 5:33 AM

So it would look like this picture below with just the row of red segments being potential arm rests

that you could pull down when needed or could leave in their upright position

if you don't care for them (which is the case for some).

Wrestlers were considered freelancers who had to find their own way

by Anonymousreply 80April 16, 2023 6:00 AM

I think I've been far too polite, so let's get down to it: If you can't keep your fucking fat ass within the seat you paid for, then don't fly. You don't get to spill over into the seat someone else paid for and think they shouldn't loathe you for it. You've decided "fuck the person who also paid for their seat, I'm going to make their flying experience hell and I've decided that my comfort alone is all that matters and I don't give a fuck that this person paid for a seat, I'm taking part of it." But frankly, it doesn't affect me because I don't fly economy. Fuck that. And I'm not wealthy by any stretch, but it's worth paying extra, so I don't deal with people with your sense of entitlement. And before you accuse me of having some sense of entitlement: Merely wanting to sit within the confines of my seat, doesn't count.

by Anonymousreply 81April 16, 2023 6:01 AM

I'm not here to contribute to the fat shaming, and general humiliation of obese people, but even I have problems with planes these days. Frontier airlines took out all their padded seats and replace them with hardback plastic chairs and put the rows about two or 3 inches closer together. And a lot of airlines have shrunk the space between rows and the width of seats. Just so they can cram as many people in as possible. And I am not overweight, but I'm 6 feet tall, and airplane bathrooms are a fucking nightmare. I can't even stand up in one.

Overall flying has just become a nightmare over the last several decades.

by Anonymousreply 82April 16, 2023 6:05 AM

^ The airline Nazi comes in for another landing.

by Anonymousreply 83April 16, 2023 6:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 84April 16, 2023 6:08 AM

It would be nice for everyone not just the obese

by Anonymousreply 85April 16, 2023 6:10 AM

Exactly, r85.

by Anonymousreply 86April 16, 2023 6:11 AM

R85, yes it would. As it is, we're like sardines, but even in the old days when flying was a luxury and people weren't treated like cattle and seats were more comfortable, passengers were not that large and the seats would not have accommodated people that size even then.

by Anonymousreply 87April 16, 2023 6:14 AM

Flyers demand cheap fares as their absolute #1 priority. A plane fitted with large, comfortable seats in coach is accordingly a complete fantasy, it just does not pencil out.

by Anonymousreply 88April 16, 2023 6:15 AM

we need more room on each plane and more personal space. It is so disgusting. we need government REGULATION on this.

by Anonymousreply 89April 16, 2023 6:16 AM

I don't want to seem cruel, but how does a plane even stay in the air when she's in it?

by Anonymousreply 90April 16, 2023 6:18 AM

[quote]Flyers demand cheap fares as their absolute #1 priority.

Yes, but we're not even getting cheap flights. We're getting charged for a ticket, then charged to pick a seat, then charged for a carry-on, and charged for a checked bag, and on some airlines charged for a Coke.

I'm fully expecting them to start charging us for the oxygen (you know they would charge for that if they could).

by Anonymousreply 91April 16, 2023 6:26 AM

R91 'In case of a loss of cabin pressure, a mask will drop down from overhead. Insert your credit card to begin the flow of oxygen...'

by Anonymousreply 92April 16, 2023 6:29 AM

In my college days I booked a last minute LAX-JFK flight with two friends. Our seats were scattered around a plane with a 3-5-3 configuration. I was in the dead middle of the 5 middle row.

It was packed except I had the seat next to me open. I was smirking at my buddies crammed in their rows.

THEN just before pushback the fattest man I've ever seen (wearing fucking OVERALLS) huffed on to take the seat between me and the poor guy on the aisle. "Sorry, fellers," he said, as he squeezed in to crush us for a five-hour flight. (Yes, he said "fellers.")

Both my friends turned around to smirk at me the whole flight.

Thirty years later I got my revenge on a crowded BART car when we were on another guys' weekend!

The obese woman in this story is delusional. She has an unhealthy weight because she has an addiction to food, which is no one else's problem but her own. I would also argue that she is a danger to other passengers if she is allowed to fly, in that she would make quick evacuation during an emergency impossible by potentially blocking the aisle. No concessions need to be made to her. She should be shamed and make getting to a healthier weight her priority.

by Anonymousreply 95April 16, 2023 8:50 AM

Everything having been posted above being true, I STILL support this woman's demand on behalf of everyone who flies: bigger seats with more pitch should be a human right.

No one (not even those of us who are perfectly normal weight) should be risking thrombosis just to get from point A to point B. It's not as if we're not paying enough already.

by Anonymousreply 96April 16, 2023 9:33 AM

[quote]Everything having been posted above being true, I STILL support this woman's demand on behalf of everyone who flies: bigger seats with more pitch should be a human right.

Jae’lynn Chaney from Vancouver, Washington, started the Change.org petition “Demand for the FAA to Protect Plus-Sized Customers,” detailing several demands to ensure larger passengers can fly without issues.

Chaney kicked off the petition claiming she and her fiancé were subjected to discrimination on a recent flight from Pasco, WA to Denver — which roughly takes just over 2 hours.

She claims other passengers refused to sit next to them, with the pair receiving “hateful comments” and “disapproving looks” while traveling.

If it's cunty to point out that this woman didn't get that enormous out of nowhere and that she's now expecting the rest of us to accommodate her choices both directly and indirectly, I suppose.

I mean, sister can live her bliss, but that doesn't mean she gets a free pass to have the path completely smoothed by passing the buck to society. She wants to take the risks that come with being that big--another story from my intern year; a man in the ICU who arrested who was so fat I wasn't able to either lean over or straddle him to do compressions, I ended up having to kneel on his FUPA--cool, but don't expect me to pay for them.

by Anonymousreply 111April 17, 2023 11:46 AM

Do some of you want to clean her ass out with your tongue?

by Anonymousreply 112April 17, 2023 11:53 AM

Wholeheartedly agree with R81.

Like R110, I'm tall. I pay extra to not travel in coach. That's life!

I would never think to start a petition to shame the airlines for --or to put my fellow passengers in discomfort because of-- my height.

This fat bitch needs to grow up. Loose some weight or don't lady, but don't go out of your way to make other people as miserable as you obviously are.

by Anonymousreply 113April 17, 2023 12:02 PM

can, you imagine being stuck in a 3 seat with the 2 of them?

by Anonymousreply 114April 17, 2023 12:15 PM

MY EYES! How many calories does this fat ass hork down daily to maintain her size? She must spend HOURS eating and planning her next meal and cooking it everyday.

by Anonymousreply 115April 17, 2023 12:22 PM

I love how everything else on here is called out except fat shaming. It is all clear to fat shame anyone here…

by Anonymousreply 116April 17, 2023 12:36 PM

I mean, I'm fat so I get a pass.

by Anonymousreply 117April 17, 2023 1:14 PM

R2- WRONG

She’s SUPER morbidly obese.

by Anonymousreply 118April 17, 2023 1:15 PM

R17- The problem is today we are seeing the normalization of obesity.

by Anonymousreply 119April 17, 2023 1:18 PM

R110 People over 6’2 are 3% of the population.

Obese make up 51% of the population. And that’s not adding overweight people.

by Anonymousreply 120April 17, 2023 1:19 PM

Overweight can fit in seats. Morbidly obese cannot.

by Anonymousreply 121April 17, 2023 1:21 PM

The only girth I like is in between a man’s legs.

by Anonymousreply 122April 17, 2023 1:28 PM

R119 Because being obese is normal. It’s half of the US population.

I’m not obese. Maybe overweight and I could lose 10 pounds (it’s all in my stomach) to look good at the beach.

But I just realize that there’s going to be more fat people than skinny people and I don’t see it changing anytime soon. So obviously American society has to conform to them.

It’s like I’m a photographer and I work with some fitness guys for their Instagram and I always tell them if they want to get more followers to wear less clothes when they work out.

And it’s because fitness trainers are illusions. They don’t make great money and everyone following them is mostly fat and want to look at their sexy bodies. So covering up while working out attracts people who really give a shit about fitness and it won’t get them the attention they want for income.

by Anonymousreply 123April 17, 2023 1:29 PM

R120- I’m 6ft 2in which means I’m

SPECIAL .

by Anonymousreply 124April 17, 2023 1:30 PM

🤔 No one is "shaming" retailers in featuring plus sizes in their advertising. Fat is where the money's at, and probably going to stay. Retailers who snubbed the fatties suddenly seem to be having a light bulb moment as they've come to realize that the plus size portion of the population spends money, just like everyone else, and they now want a piece over the oversized pie.

by Anonymousreply 125April 17, 2023 1:34 PM

[quote]If it's cunty to point out that this woman didn't get that enormous out of nowhere and that she's now expecting the rest of us to accommodate her choices both directly and indirectly, I suppose.

It's cunty to point out, as a doctor, (which you've mentioned like five times in this thread) that "her choices" and your inconvenience and the economic impact her request would make on you are more important to you than her health, r111.

And telling a story about a pregnant woman who had to have her fat taped to the walls to give birth? That was just… cunty. And irrelevant. Unless she was giving birth in a coach seat on an airplane.

But you want to know what can be even cuntier? ME pointing out that you're a DO and not an MD. You didn't go to Harvard Medical School. You didn't even go to a Caribbean medical school. At least ACT like a doctor and pretend to be concerned about the epidemic of obesity instead of whether or not you're inconvenienced on an airplane. And stop blaming fat people for being fat. You're in a position to help them. Try it some time.

But enjoy all those seats in first class that you're able to score with your new, higher income.

by Anonymousreply 126April 17, 2023 1:43 PM

R125, someone buying clothing, doesn't directly affect me. I don't care if someone huge is on the cover of magazines or is an influencer. I mean frankly, I don't think anyone morbidly obese should be encouraged to stay that way, but that's their life. However, when it comes to flying, it is a problem if one can't even sit in the seat they paid for unencumbered.

by Anonymousreply 127April 17, 2023 1:44 PM

Good Lord, girl. You are way too fat to fly. Hit the gym and stop mainlining fattening foods. There should be regulations just like they have for luggage. If you can't sit in a seat without your corpulence spilling onto another passenger, you ain't flying. Normal sized people will not put up with this. This will end in tears for this large Marge. And rightly so.

by Anonymousreply 128April 17, 2023 1:49 PM

While we are at it, let's put a size restrictions on flight attendants. Seems like they only hire women with fat asses and wide hips. So every time these passive aggressive cunts walks down the aisle, you get hip checked. Waddle somewhere else, hon. And bring back the thin, pretty stewardesses. Young ones with energy to fetch me my in flight sippy poos rather than the old and tired hags that have to sit down mid flight.

by Anonymousreply 129April 17, 2023 1:51 PM

R129, you certainly won't find any heavy ones on those gulf state or Asian airlines.

by Anonymousreply 130April 17, 2023 1:54 PM

r130 when I took the bullet train in China, I remember thinking the attendants must have had very strict height/weight requirements. They were all nearly identical -- and nearly perfectly polished in their presentation.

by Anonymousreply 131April 17, 2023 1:57 PM

r111, you've gone to medical school, are you really telling us that you were taught that someone who is over 600 lbs got that way simply because they're a bad person with no willpower?

It doesn't surprise me that a DO would say "fat people shouldn't be allowed to get away with having opinions," let alone a DO who has been a DL regular for years and years, but good Christ you are coming across as an enormous piece of shit right now, especially since this is your third day of screaming about your hatred of fat people.

by Anonymousreply 132April 17, 2023 1:58 PM

DOs are the poor man's MDs.

by Anonymousreply 133April 17, 2023 2:00 PM

R126, you quoted that same line from Absolutely Fabulous in another thread where you were talking about VOTN. It's still not funny because it still doesn't work with the case in hand.

by Anonymousreply 134April 17, 2023 2:04 PM

He's not, r108. He's ranting as if all fat people are demanding accommodations that will unfairly impact thin, normal people, and telling us little humiliating stories about fat people that he clearly doesn't think the medical community should even have to treat.

What's happening here is what ALWAYS happens on DL: One, singular fat person says something controversial, and 90% of DLers fly into a days-long rage about the very existence of fat people. A fat person exists, "STOP NORMALIZING OBESITY!!!!!" A fat person has an opinion, "THIS FAT CUNT BITCH DOESN'T GET TO TELL NORMAL THIN PEOPLE HER OPINION WHO THE FUCK DOES SHE THINK SHE IS?????"

It's insane. I don't think most of you realize how unhinged this behavior is. You don't go to any other social media sites, you don't have real life friends, and therefore you don't realize how obsessed you sound.

by Anonymousreply 135April 17, 2023 2:04 PM

R132 It doesn't make any difference how they got so fat. Even if it is no fault of their own and they have some rare glandular issue, they are still not suited for flight in the seats provided by airlines these days. Life isn't fair. Fatties not can fly.

by Anonymousreply 136April 17, 2023 2:05 PM

An influencer who flies commercial is really bad at influencing. "Private jet or no brand related promo content from my Insta or TikTok, bitches! My followers expect me to travel IN STYLE!".

by Anonymousreply 137April 17, 2023 2:06 PM

Why exactly do morbidly obese people think the world needs to bend a knee to them? Addiction to food is something you need to conquer. Address the emotions behind why you eat so much and try to fight the addiction. This isn't a disability like being born with CP.

by Anonymousreply 138April 17, 2023 2:10 PM

[quote][R126], you quoted that same line from Absolutely Fabulous in another thread where you were talking about VOTN. It's still not funny because it still doesn't work with the case in hand.

I did. And it wasn't meant to be funny. Because I don't think any of this is funny. It was meant to point out that VOTN used to come across as a kind, sympathetic poster but is now acting like they're some type of superior authority, lecturing obese people and being a general snot.

And VOTN, I used to like your posts. I congratulated you when you were accepted into a medial program. But I'm not loving the new attitude. So feel free to insult me, block me, or take this as a wake up call, because you're acting like an entitled asshole.

by Anonymousreply 139April 17, 2023 2:17 PM

[quote]Why exactly do morbidly obese people think the world needs to bend a knee to them?

They don't.

Again, this is a case of a hysterical Datalounger acting like the attention-getting opinion of one (1) influencer is the opinion of every fat person in the world.

This is Fox News' bread and butter. They rely on suckers like you to get outraged over nothing, and you delivered in spades.

There's a significant lack of media literacy among DLers, which is why it took three days and well over 100 posts for someone to point out that this is Fox News ragebait and you all fell for it. None of you realized it. NONE.

by Anonymousreply 140April 17, 2023 2:17 PM

"I'm medically diagnosed as extremely claustrophobic. Here's why essential air travel with plus-sized passengers makes my condition worse."

My HuffPo article.

by Anonymousreply 141April 17, 2023 3:06 PM

Did you mean to post a link r141?

by Anonymousreply 142April 17, 2023 3:17 PM

No, R142. I was just fabricating a possible article for submission.

by Anonymousreply 143April 17, 2023 3:24 PM

I support her advocacy. If she can force planes to make seats larger that would benefit everyone, including tall, svelte people...like me.

[quote]No, [R142]. I was just fabricating a possible article for submission.

Oh. In that case I'd recommend writing a novel about it instead. And then maybe that novel can be turned into a Broadway musical, then the musical could become a movie, and the movie could be spun off into a TV series, and then you could release a cast soundtrack. And then you're an EGOT!

by Anonymousreply 145April 17, 2023 3:53 PM

Who would be more useful in the event of a in-flight medical emergency, a fatty or a DO?

by Anonymousreply 146April 17, 2023 4:01 PM

As casually mentioned in a few previous posts - you do not want to be stuck behind a "plus sized"passenger if there is an emergency evacuation ( and I don't mean her bowels ).

Gawd help you if they've got an emotional support animal and speed is essential to make it out alive.

You and everyone trapped behind you is fucked .

She'll somehow manage to tumble down that slide but everyone behind her is doomed.

by Anonymousreply 147April 17, 2023 4:10 PM

She's grotesque, but don't you think the airlines owe her a seat she can fit into? And the people next to her, aren't they entitled not to share their seat with someone her size?

If you can't provide a service, you shouldn't take someone's payment.

by Anonymousreply 148April 17, 2023 4:13 PM

Well, you'll be glad she's on board in case some window breaks or a hole needs to get plugged and one of her fat cheeks will do the trick.

by Anonymousreply 149April 17, 2023 4:15 PM

[quote]Who would be more useful in the event of a in-flight medical emergency, a fatty or a DO?

🤔. Is the fat person a nurse?

by Anonymousreply 150April 17, 2023 4:19 PM

She has to go on a train like the other farm animals.

by Anonymousreply 151April 17, 2023 4:27 PM

Hon, they do offer bigger seats. It's called "first class". Don't wanna pay, well squeeze into cattle class and clap your trap.

by Anonymousreply 152April 17, 2023 4:32 PM

Sorry, but as an FFP, the blame is squarely on the person who can't keep their mouth empty for more than 5 minutes. I've dealt with food addiction, and though I am at a normal weight now, it's a daily thing I deal with. And you know what- it's no one else's problem but my own. Yes, I may have been raised with bad habits that were ingrained in me, but I've been an adult far long enough to know that I have to take responsibility for my actions.

This fat bitch doesn't have a glandular problem. She has a willpower problem. She's lazy, entitled and could benefit from some serious psychotherapy. That she doesn't bother with any of that, but expects the world to bow to her addiction, is pure fucking bullshit and a huge reason why the world is in the state it's in today.

I own my addiction issues, and when I was at my heaviest and I was traveling, you bet your ass I did my level best to not let it inconvenience anyone. I would always book an aisle seat, even if it cost me more money. I would make sure I leaned out into the aisle to make sure I gave my middle seat partner as much room as possible, even if it meant getting knocked in the shoulder by everyone coming down the aisle. I would also book aisle seats when I saw theater, so I could make sure I had that room to lean over and give my seat mate more room.

Accommodating people who won't bother to help themselves when they can is fine IF you're able to do it, but don't expect it. Businesses do NOT have to take into account the fact that you can't put the fork down. I suppose we should let drunk people board the flight, even though they are disturbing the peace of the other passengers because, the poor things, they have an addiction and it isn't their fault. Bullshit.

And whoever you are going on and on and on trying to tear VOTN a new asshole, you've failed. Save your energy for scarfing down your next Postmates delivery.

by Anonymousreply 153April 17, 2023 4:35 PM

But 40% of adult Americans are obese, R153. They are a sizable chunk of airlines' business.

by Anonymousreply 154April 17, 2023 4:40 PM

And how many of them are flying? Not as many as you'd think. Most morbidly obese people don't have the money to travel, nor do they have the ability. They would rather stay home and eat. And I don't mean that to be snarky (for once). Trust me, when you are obese, the last thing you want to do is be out and about. And I'm not talking about these mentally ill "influencers" who have convinced themselves that they are "fat and fabulous." The majority of obese people hide from the world as much as they can.

by Anonymousreply 155April 17, 2023 4:47 PM

[quote]as an FFP

Generally speaking, I don't believe claims like this. We frequently get the "I used to be fat and here's why all fat people should be genocided" kind of trolling on here, and at first glance, I figured that's what you were.

But your constant reliance on insulting everyone with "go eat some cupcakes" or "you must order fast food all the time" and "you're a fatty" crap makes me think you really were fat at one point, and you said that shit to yourself all the fucking time, and now here you are, with a MASSIVE and self-inflicted personality disorder that's so out of control, you genuinely think you're better than everyone else.

by Anonymousreply 156April 17, 2023 4:57 PM

R156, you're the lunatic screeching at VOTN, so nothing you say has any validity. You're boring us.

by Anonymousreply 157April 17, 2023 5:14 PM

R122- Don’t forget length.

by Anonymousreply 158April 17, 2023 6:56 PM

They do the opposite. British Airways have changed all their Boeing 777 economy class from 3-3-3 to 3-4-3 - a whole extra seat. Cattle class sucks.

by Anonymousreply 159April 17, 2023 7:16 PM

Which "personality disorder" in particular, R156? That's not just a term that you can throw around to try to make yourself look intelligent, it has an actual meaning.

by Anonymousreply 160April 17, 2023 7:51 PM

R135 my real life friends are FAR more scathing about the super morbidly obese (like this woman) than VOTN is being here.. and as for other social media sites (reddit, insta etc) they are even harder on them, VOTN is positively restrained in comparison.

Anyone that size should fly first class or at least not economy.. Or put the fork down a while

by Anonymousreply 161April 17, 2023 10:31 PM

[quote][R135] my real life friends are FAR more scathing about the super morbidly obese

Yeeeeeaaaahh...

It sounds like you need better friends.

by Anonymousreply 162April 17, 2023 11:36 PM

R148 Solution - You are screened at the airport like luggage. If your body mass, height or weight can not be accommodated by the seat you have purchased, you will not board the plan and will get a full refund. Let people take ownership of their bodies and lives. Lose weight, Porkchop, if you want to fly the friendly skies.

by Anonymousreply 163April 18, 2023 12:02 AM

When I’ve had an obese person next to me on a flight and their tonnage is crossing over the armrest and into my space, I’ve taken a binder or portfolio or similar from my bag and put it against the armrest on my side so that the person’s arm cannot cross into my space. It’s a little mean, but my space is mine and their space is theirs and they need to fold their arms or do whatever they need to do to fit in the space they paid for. I’m not talking about a person who’s stocky. I’m talking about enormous people.

She just needs to buy 2 seats (or fly business class) which is what larger or taller people do. It sucks, but asking the airlines to widen the seats means less passengers per plane and then the overall cost per seat will go up anyways. Then she will be back online in a year complaining that travelling is too expensive

by Anonymousreply 168April 18, 2023 2:00 AM

You must lose tirty pounds dis munt

by Anonymousreply 169April 18, 2023 2:02 AM

Lindy West wrote this in that decade old article, and it's just as much bullshit today as it was back then

[quote] I'm sure some fat people are fat by their own hand, without any underlying medical conditions, but a lot of other fat people are fat because they're sick or disabled.

No, sweetheart, people don't get fat from being sick or disabled. They get fat by stuffing their faces like you.

by Anonymousreply 170April 18, 2023 6:51 AM

People these days say they suffer from obesity, very strange.

by Anonymousreply 171April 20, 2023 3:45 PM

[quote]People these days say they suffer from obesity, very strange.

Well, you can read that in two different ways. One, they are suffering and feel terrible being obese. It’s got to be uncomfortable and hard on their health, and it causes them pain and suffering.

And two, increasingly doctors are recognizing obesity as a chronic medical condition meaning that it’s something that needs to be treated for life instead of people just putting down a fork. So in a medical sense, they are suffering from a chronic disease that is obesity.

If someone got lung cancer from smoking, you wouldn’t say they weren’t suffering from lung cancer and you wouldn’t tell them if they just quit smoking their lung cancer would go away. You would send them to an oncologist. And just like food, cigarettes are a choice and an addiction. The major difference being that while both can be associated with a family history of the disease, it’s much stronger for obesity than lung cancer. Only 8% of lung cancers are related to familial lung cancer histories, while the majority of obesity cases are related to having parents that were obese. But both of them have environmental factors (over eating and smoking) they both have strong genetic factors.

by Anonymousreply 172May 28, 2023 5:29 PM

I feel like a lot of male flight attendants would be highly motivated to work hard if they were given girth accommodations.

by Anonymousreply 173May 28, 2023 5:59 PM

"At this point most Americans are fat and are only going to get fatter so I don’t see why they shouldn’t be accommodated."

They're not that fat. I've flown 4 times in the past two months and, yes, there's a lot of fat Americans, but there were hardly any people on those flights who couldn't fit into an airline seat. Were they super comfortable? Probably not. But they could fit.

by Anonymousreply 174May 28, 2023 6:29 PM

"If 10% of flyers are plus size then 10% of the seats should be plus size as well."

So entire fleets of planes should be reconfigured regularly because we're tying seats to the percentage of plus-sized travelers? Thanks, but I'd prefer not having that cost passed on to me.

by Anonymousreply 175May 28, 2023 6:31 PM

3% of the flyers are gay bottoms, so the airlines should provide seats with dildoes attached to the bottom seat cushion.

by Anonymousreply 176May 28, 2023 9:30 PM

[quote] And two, increasingly doctors are recognizing obesity as a chronic medical condition meaning that it’s something that needs to be treated for life instead of people just putting down a fork. So in a medical sense, they are suffering from a chronic disease that is obesity.

You’re describing a person that does not correspond to the woman in the OP.

You can make the argument that someone “suffers” from obesity when they are overweight and for whatever reason, whether it’s a lack of willpower or the (probably) exceptional cases where there is some underlying medical cause, can’t lose weight. Those are the people who get bariatric surgery, go on Ozempic or do fecal transplants to adjust their intestinal microbiomes. I do psychiatric clearances for bariatric surgery as part of my job. Generally those people come in with realistic expectations of the results, although some never change their relationship with food, and then either gain the weight back or gain the weight back and come in for a more extreme surgery.

The woman in the OP (or BigCurvyOlivia, in the other thread about this we recently had) have no desire to lose weight. They’re only “suffering” in the sense that they want to world adjust to their choices. Those are not equivalent.
