Representative Katie Porter didn't seem to happy on 'Real Time' on the disuccion of 'maturity'

Rep Katie Porter (whom I like very much) and Poers Morgan were guests on 'Real Time with Bill Maher' last night. The first topic of conversation was the arrest of Jack Texieria and how a 21 year old couild possibly get his hands on such top secret documents. Maher noted - rightly so - that 21 year olds / Gen Z are lacking maturity in today's world, because they were brought up coddled and irresponsible. How can we trust a 21 year old with such sensitive docs ? 21 year old Zoomers do not have the maturity level that 21 year old Boomers did in the past.

Piers Morgan, 58, agreed with 67 year old Maher, but 49 year old Porter didn't and accused the two of sounding like 'two old men'. This angered Maher, as the camera caught his reaction. He accused Porter of engaging in 'identity politics' with her remark, and challenged her on it (with Morgan's input). DAMN! Porter backed down right away and tried to defend herself, but Maher wasn't having it. He stuck to his guns, as did Morgan. Porter kept saying they didn't understand 21 year olds (she has a 21 year old) and didn't understand what defines maturity today. Maher seemed to grow more enraged.

For the rest of the show, Porter seemed a bit unhappy, and didn't really engage with the conversation too much (Morgan did a lot of talking) and didn't share in Maher's sens of humor. She seemed to sit there like a Lummox, watching the other two enjoy themselves.

Apparently, on 'Overtime' things heated up between Katie and Piers, as he compared 'The 2 Justins' to 'The J6 Insurrectionists'...

Those two old white guys are just lucky Katie didn't have her whiteboard with her 😠

by Anonymousreply 1April 15, 2023 4:00 PM

They are all speaking idiocy. Not a single thing in that summary made any sense.

by Anonymousreply 2April 15, 2023 4:00 PM

I haven't watched Maher in years (I find him irrelevant)--I had no idea he was 67. He really is an old man shaking his fist at the clouds.

by Anonymousreply 3April 15, 2023 4:03 PM

Maher regularly complains about ageism (e.g. don't say Biden is "too old") but then spent an entire segment shitting on the young. Worse, during discussions of crypto, he basically agreed that most legislators are too old to understand it. She was right to call him out as sounds like a cranky old man.

by Anonymousreply 4April 15, 2023 4:04 PM

He opened the show with a one-on-one interview with actor/author Ben McKenzie (who is gorgeous from head to toe) and the state of crypto currency and NFTs, and how Zoomers and Millenials are buying into this.

Working with Zoomers all day on a college campus, I have to say Morgan and Maher are 100% right. They are totally irresponsible, immature, entitled and coddled. No doubt about it. Porter needs to admit to this - however, instead, she admitted to winning the votes of Zoomers.

Maher pointed out that a 21 year old isn't mature enough to be trusted with sensitive docs, but they are mature enough to go to war, buy a weapon, buy alcohol (in most states), and vote ? That's when Porter pointed out she doesn't mind - they keep her in office since she wins their votes.

Maher pointed out that she just admitted she appeals and wins the votes of irresponsible voters, hinting it's not something to be proud of these days (Trump does the same with his cult). Porter just glared at him with the ice stare.

by Anonymousreply 5April 15, 2023 4:29 PM

I agree Porter's answer that she wins their vote didn't make sense and, if anything, just made her look bad. But I agreed with her larger point that shit talking kids that age just seems like grumpy old man behavior. Is Gen Z immature? Yes. Just like Millennials at that age were entitled. And Gen X at that age were slackers. Complaining about "these kids today" isn't anything new and Gen Z is really no worse than the generations that came before. In a few years Gen Z will be middle aged and everyone will think it's the *next* generation that is going to bring about the end of civilization.

by Anonymousreply 6April 15, 2023 4:39 PM

Porter missed the point of the conversation - why give someone belonging to this immature, irresponsible generation access to sensitive documents ? What good could've possibly come of it ? She really didn't have an answer to defend 'her supporters', so she chose to deflect.

by Anonymousreply 7April 15, 2023 5:06 PM

I've been a big Katie Porter fan but she was really disappointing on Maher's show. When it's Piers Morgan making valid points about men in women's sports and she doesn't even try to defend women's point of view just blinding endorsing whatever nonsense the trans lobby comes up with, you need to grow a pair.

Morgan brought up the case of the male rapist who decided he was a woman so he could go to a woman's prison in Scotland and the uproar brought down Nicola Sturgeon. Katie looked like a deer in headlights.

by Anonymousreply 8April 15, 2023 5:14 PM

Young voters are the ones who vote Liberal and are a major part of preventing the red wave the right wing was gloating about in the midterms. And here is Maher, dismissing them all as irresponsible and immature, because of what ONE young man did. That is some right wing rhetoric bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 9April 15, 2023 5:16 PM

I agree Porter didn't do that well, but I don't think she blindly endorsed the trans lobby's point of view. Mostly she just sat there silent--because the points Morgan (whom I loathe) was making were reasonable and hard to argue with. The only time she really spoke up was to say it was a sport's governing body that should determine rules about trans athletes. The problem there, of course, and which I was annoyed that neither Morgan nor Maher brought up was that if the governing body ruled against the trans athlete that they would immediately be shouted down as transphobic.

by Anonymousreply 10April 15, 2023 5:18 PM

In November 2020, 70% of registered Texas voters between the ages of 18 and 30 didn't bother to vote. Thanks, assholes.

by Anonymousreply 11April 15, 2023 5:18 PM

R10 the problem is - and Maher for once is right on this - 'trans' issues are not even up for debate. You have to blindly accept any nonsense they come up with or you are transphobic and they'll rip you limb from limb.

by Anonymousreply 12April 15, 2023 5:20 PM

R8 I agree - she was so unprepared for that topic. And if you're running to take a soon-to-be-vacant Senate Seat, you need to be somewhat prepared on these 'hot button issues' - and trans issues will be all over the election. I, too, don't like Morgan - but damn, he held his own last night and made Katie look like a fool. She seemed to say "I'm nothing without my whiteboard and my staff's research".

This didn't bode well for next year's election in CA.

by Anonymousreply 13April 15, 2023 5:23 PM

[quote] I was annoyed that neither Morgan nor Maher brought up was that if the governing body ruled against the trans athlete that they would immediately be shouted down as transphobic.

DUH! You think the Trans would be like "OK, we accept it and promise we be won't be uppity anymore, pinky swear promise!"? And if the governing body would rule in favor of the Trans, would the right wing anti trans trolls accept that ruling without having a temper tantrum?

by Anonymousreply 14April 15, 2023 5:24 PM

R12 He was 100% correct on this. Too bad Katie didn't have an answer.

by Anonymousreply 15April 15, 2023 5:24 PM

The discourse in the country has taken such a turn that it’s hard for some politicians to have an opinion on issues, especially social issues, for fear of offending half their base. There are some shows, like Bill Maher’s, where you can’t really be noncommittal because you’ll end up looking like Katie Porter.

by Anonymousreply 16April 15, 2023 5:25 PM

r16, which makes a panel show like Maher pointless. Either you are willing to stand up for your point and present your arguments in a panel discussion, or don't go on the show in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 17April 15, 2023 5:28 PM

[quote]which makes a panel show like Maher pointless.

Actually it’s not. It’s far better when he has pundits who aren’t afraid to debate issues
it’s pretty much what Politically Incorrect was. But when you have a wishy washy politician you get what we saw with Katie Porter.

by Anonymousreply 18April 15, 2023 5:31 PM

Exactly R18.

Porter was very unprepared, and she needn't be. She must've known the other guest was conservative Morgan, and he certainly wasn't there to let her off easy. She knew damn well what was making headlines the past two weeks, and must've had an idea this would be the topics for the show. Last night was her chance to show voters what she stood for and to defend herself against Maher and Morgan. She didn't - she blew it.

by Anonymousreply 19April 15, 2023 5:55 PM

r18, huh? Did you read my comment at all? I'm agreeing with your argument.

by Anonymousreply 20April 15, 2023 6:02 PM

I like Katie Porter too, but I agree she did badly overall and hate to admit it but Piers Morgan did great. (Later, he was an idiot on Ovetime, but on the show itself he did much better than Katie.) Maher is totally, hopelessly triggered by any mention that he's old, but still, she just sounded so damn lackadaisacal about the whole leaking of classified documents and how every moron with a uniform just seems to have all kinds of access to state secrets.

by Anonymousreply 21April 15, 2023 6:15 PM

Porter's strength has always been economic issues, so I think she was very prepared when they discussed crypto. She's never been a culture warrior, though, and you could tell she didn't really disagree with most of Morgan's common sense points on trans issues. So the only way she could have debated him was by spewing out a bunch of woke talking points she didn't really believe. I'm glad she didn't do that. Unfortunately, though, she was clearly too afraid of the radical left to admit she agreed with Morgan, so she just sat there like a deer in headlights instead.

On Overtime, the royal family came up and Morgan insisted repeatedly that Meghan had "no proof" to back up her claims that the royal family was racist. That's the one where I was really disappointed no one challenged him. Racism can be real without being overt and Meghan shouldn't need tapes of someone saying the n-word or photos of someone in black face to justify feeling like she was treated differently. And I say that as someone who doesn't even like Harry and Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 22April 15, 2023 6:17 PM

R22 Meghan Markle feuds with every member of her family except her Ma. She quickly started feuding with every member of the Royal family. She's a typical Borderline, can't maintain close relationships with friends or family. They blow hot and cold. One day they adore you, the next they'll cut you dead. See her relationship with that Canadian woman who was her beloved bestie until she got dropped. Borderlines always do this.

Her problems with the royal family had nothing to do with racism and everything to do with the fact she's an Ugly American who arrogantly thinks she can dictate to other nationalities how they should run their lives. I'm an American who lived for decades in Europe and well aware of how my compatriots' arrogance rubs other nationalities the wrong way.

by Anonymousreply 23April 15, 2023 6:24 PM

Agree r22, Porter was stuck mouthing nonsense about Trans. And of course part of that is she is running for a California Senate seat, which means agreeing with every hysterical and neurotic trans rights activist on twitter.

Agree about Morgan too, except it was really his dingbat nonsense comparing the bullshit that happened to the Tennessee Three (or Two) to what happened on January 6th. I was wishing for somebody to ask if he really believes that, does that mean that Jim Jordan, and Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Josh Hawley and other people connected to planning and instigating January 6th should also have their asses thrown out of Congress.

by Anonymousreply 24April 15, 2023 6:27 PM

[quote]and Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Josh Hawley and other people connected to planning and instigating January 6th should also have their asses thrown out of Congress.

I took his point on this to be how partisanship has gotten out of hand. How people will overlook going outside the rules as long as it’s from their party while at the same time condemning rule breaking on the other side.

by Anonymousreply 25April 15, 2023 6:37 PM

And that might be a valid point, except that it was a wildly disproportionate analogy, comparing a disruption to insist that gun control advocates be heard by a legislature trying to shut down all debate rather than an attempt to impose a president that some mob has decided was the "real winner" by force. I'll admit the disruptors in the legislature should have probably been censured for it, and it would have been a very minor blip of a story. Expulsion was wildly disproportionate, vaguely racist but mostly bullying by gun nuts who never want to hear a word against their stupid gun fetish.

And again, he should follow his own logic out and admit that his Trumpista buddies in the GOP Congress did much worse and have faced zero consequences for their actions. In other words, I think he was being hugely partisan while pretending to oppose partisanship.

by Anonymousreply 26April 15, 2023 6:49 PM

[quote] She's never been a culture warrior, though, and you could tell she didn't really disagree with most of Morgan's common sense points on trans issues

I couldn't disagree more with this -don't you recall her reading that book as the Republicans endlessly voted for speaker? She is a culture war general. I thought she was horrific last night. And no, you couldn't tell what her thoughts were last night. Also, in regard to the ageism discussion - she announced she was running for the seat of an 89 year old woman before she announced her intentions.

No, I am off the Katie Porter bandwagon. Everyone should encourage diminish her. She is Kamala Harris 2.0. We don't need any more sassy women who fall apart as they ascend into real power. The white board shtick is also very played out.

by Anonymousreply 27April 15, 2023 6:49 PM

R26, beautifully stated and true. Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 28April 15, 2023 6:54 PM

[quote]But I agreed with her larger point that shit talking kids that age just seems like grumpy old man behavior.

Really though? Is that the messenger the substance of an argument?

by Anonymousreply 29April 15, 2023 6:55 PM

^ Sorry, I edited poorly. I meant is the messenger the substance of an argument?

by Anonymousreply 30April 15, 2023 6:57 PM

Porter was pathetic and mouthed boilerplate points about trans being raped so yada yada. She was a mess. For a Harvard attorney she didn't seem very bright to me. She was not on the ball about more than one conversation.

by Anonymousreply 31April 16, 2023 1:46 AM

Andover, Yale, Harvard Law School. Yes she comes off like a Kohl's store manager or at best the HR executive at a Des Moines hospital.

by Anonymousreply 32April 16, 2023 1:56 AM

She was off from the start when Bill asked the opening question, and she just sat there in long silence. It seemed like she didn’t want to be there the entire episode and came across as annoyed and never cracked a smile or laugh. What is it with supposed Democratic ‘stars’ performing so poorly on this show? Ruben Gallego as another who I thought I liked until his last cringeworthy appearance. For all his flaws, Mayor Pete should hold a media appearance training seminar for the Dems. Anyway, I’d rather see Schiff than Porter the more I see and learn about her.

by Anonymousreply 33April 16, 2023 8:24 AM

The comments about Texieria's age are stupid. Chelsea Manning was 23 years old when she leaked those documents and I don't remember pundits giving a shit about her age. There are 21 year olds driving semi trucks and working in nursing homes. Is it really so surprising that a 21 year old IT worker had access to military secrets? I think there is a tendency in recent years to infantilize young people. Maybe we should be talking about the actual information revealed instead of asking if 21 year olds are old enough to have any responsibility.

by Anonymousreply 34April 16, 2023 8:41 AM

Maher succeeded in getting your attention for his contrarian views. It is his schtick, just like Tucker Carlson has his. Maher & Carlson do not really care what the public thinks or feels. Porter was upset because she realized by being on the show she was giving those two loons some legitimacy.

She (and her people) should have known better.

by Anonymousreply 35April 16, 2023 8:48 AM

Not quite r35.

I don't live in California, so my initial exposure to Katie Porter came from Bill Maher's show. She was fabulous in her (two? three?) previous appearances.

So what do you mean by "known better"? Are you saying she should only appear on panel shows with "friendly" guests and hosts?

by Anonymousreply 36April 16, 2023 9:57 AM

She looks crazy. She looks like the kind of woman who is so obsessed with romance novels that she kidnaps the writer and holds him hostage in her remote house in the woods and forces him to listen to her Liberace records all day long.

by Anonymousreply 37April 16, 2023 10:08 AM

Porter came across as ignorant and ultra partisan on the sport issue and looked like an idiot as a result. When Piers Morgan makes more sense than you you need to check yourself.

She STRONGLY disagrees with Riley Gaines but can't say why and then accuses Gaines of using the issue for attention and of self interest.

And even if Riley Gaines is a Republican or MAGA or whatever, does that automatically make her argument about sex trumping gender in sport wrong?

And if Democrats want to make the reality of biological sex a partisan issue then there is no hope.

(Apologies if the Twitter account is a far right nut job, it was the best quality video that came up on search)

And if Democrats want to make the reality of biological sex a partisan issue then there is no hope.. Isn't that exactly what the right wings are doing? It shouldn't be political, it should be a matter of biology. And why, may I ask, has this just recently become such a major issue? Trans or cross dressers, drag queen's have always existed and I can't recall any of them ever screeching about being on women's sports teams, demanding to put in women's prisons so they could rape them. Demanding they be called he she, they , binary, cis and every nonsensical pronoun they make up to feel they are more special than everyone else. That is power when one very small percentage of society can demand science, biology, and common fucking sense be denied all for their never ending demands. Why suddenly is this such a major, urgent, divisive issue?

by Anonymousreply 43April 16, 2023 11:13 AM

This accusation makes no sense. He uses identity politics to attack, then objects when it is turned back on him. Moreover, the decision to give this 21 year old a clearance and access to printed copies of these documents was NOT made by someone from Gen Z.

by Anonymousreply 44April 16, 2023 11:13 AM

Maher was focused on bonding with the revolting Piers Morgan. (I mean, Maher getting worked up that Dylan Mulvaney had the audacity to post a photo in a sports bra when she has no boobs was the height of stupidity.)

A very strange choice of topics for the exchange. Nothing that was focused on Porter.

This thread is full of nothing but retards.

by Anonymousreply 46April 16, 2023 11:14 AM

Russia and probably China have been infiltrating our government, military, police force, and SM for decades. They own the GOP and media as well. I try to remain hopeful that we can save our democracy, but to be honest, I do not see how we can at this point. The rot is too deep .

by Anonymousreply 47April 16, 2023 11:17 AM

R47, this leak (and many others) shows that the US has been infiltrating our allies and enemies. You seem shocked that there is gambling in Casablanca.

by Anonymousreply 48April 16, 2023 11:22 AM

R48- Well yes, that was made very clear on J6 . And Flynn still walks free and receives his pension.

[quote] He uses identity politics to attack, then objects when it is turned back on him.

Classic Bill Maher.

by Anonymousreply 50April 16, 2023 11:29 AM

[quote] Isn't that exactly what the right wings are doing? It shouldn't be political, it should be a matter of biology. And why, may I ask, has this just recently become such a major issue?

Because gender ideology was pushed on sporting bodies which allowed a 47 year old male to compete in the women's Olympic weightlifting competition alongside much younger women.

[quote]Trans or cross dressers, drag queen's have always existed and I can't recall any of them ever screeching about being on women's sports teams, demanding to put in women's prisons so they could rape them.

Another aspect of gender ideology is that when someone says they're trans you MUST believe them. To quote Emma Watson, "acceptance without exception".

[quote]Demanding they be called he she, they , binary, cis and every nonsensical pronoun they make up to feel they are more special than everyone else. That is power when one very small percentage of society can demand science, biology, and common fucking sense be denied all for their never ending demands.

Again, this is something that has come from the progressive left, and the right wing have an open goal in challenging it, even where the naked and shameful hypocrisy of banning abortion but championing female only sporting categories is seen as pro women's rights.

[quote]Why suddenly is this such a major, urgent, divisive issue?

Social media, academia, men who think feminism has gone too far, women who aren't willing to say no to men. This is coming from the left, not the right. The right are responding with their own boycotts and protests.

by Anonymousreply 51April 16, 2023 11:47 AM

She should be more on the ball, that is all. Intellectually lazy. Not a serious person. It's sad.

21 years olds throughout history have never been mature enough to handle classified docs. It has nothing to do with being coddled

by Anonymousreply 55April 16, 2023 12:45 PM

There is an increasing push from "progressives" that says early 20s is emotionally immature - see the way some of Leonardo di Caprio's girlfriends are seen as victims of grooming, and not willing participants capable of enjoying VIP yacht holidays in return for servicing some late 40s dick.

by Anonymousreply 56April 16, 2023 1:00 PM

Trust isn't and shouldn't be given too soon or easily , it must be earned. One doesn't get promoted to General after two years in the military for good reason. People must earn a place of trust and that takes time and experience.

by Anonymousreply 57April 16, 2023 1:08 PM

Not sure why there’s hysteria about 21 year olds having access to classified information when most acts of espionage are committed by adults.

by Anonymousreply 58April 16, 2023 1:15 PM

Except even Monica has never claimed to be a victim. She was a 24 year old adult woman and she acknowledges that she actively pursued Clinton. The left, though, is now absurdly trying to infantilize her and acts like 24 year old women have no agency. That's supposed to be progress? And don't even get me started on the "power imbalance" nonsense. He never abused his power with Monica. If anything, he used his power to help her when he was able to.

by Anonymousreply 64April 16, 2023 8:43 PM

And now the left is pretending women don't exist at all. Katie will be running for Feinstein's seat. I will not vote for her now. I used to like her but if these politicians won't listen to their constituents then they should be voted out. They work for us. The vast majority are not pro-trans. and the more they find out how violent they are people start to peak.

by Anonymousreply 65April 16, 2023 8:44 PM

R56 is they are not mature at 20 to make decisions, then how are they mature enough at 18 and under to cut off body parts and take puberty blockers and hormones

by Anonymousreply 66April 16, 2023 8:47 PM

Maher's point was that 21 year olds SHOULD be more grown up and he wants them to be and we should want them to be. Not this forever adolescence we have now.

by Anonymousreply 67April 16, 2023 10:04 PM

R66 stop pretending kids are cutting their dicks off. NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 IS ALLOWED TO CUT OFF THEIR DICK. You're an idiot or a soulless liar.

Puberty blockers are also dangerous.

by Anonymousreply 69April 17, 2023 11:40 AM

Jazz had his dick cut off at 17.

At age 11, Jazz had a hormone blocker implanted in her arm to hinder the growth of her penis, according to the Daily Mail. Because she didn't develop fully as a male, there wasn't wasn't enough tissue in her genital area to construct a vagina.

by Anonymousreply 70April 17, 2023 11:41 AM

R69 That's highly debatable. I know the right-wing discovered puberty blockers six months ago and is now working itself into a lather thinking about puberty 24/7 but they have been prescribed for a long time. Let's not pretend they are completely untested drugs.

R79 is 100% correct. The vast majority of the tweets have offered disagreement and differing opinions but they have not been offensive.

(Also, some of those differing opinions are from the usual gay men who post here, not transphobic lunatics or flying monkeys.)

Whatever about her piss poor performance on Maher, she is a total C to work for according to the dearwhitestaffers Insta account.

California : Avoid like the plague.

Also her folksy book title 'Politics is messier than my minivan'. Such a frumpy Frau appealing title. Ghastly stuff.

I believe you misunderstand my intentions.

When I see someone express a positive opinion of Piers Morgan I know with 100% certainty I don't need to hear their opinions on, well, anything.

I'm not offended at all. Just sparing myself the shitty ramblings of deeply stupid people.

by Anonymousreply 82April 18, 2023 2:47 AM

(for example, no surprises I've had R79 blocked for years.)

Porter has every opportunity that she's a worthwhile candidate to fill Di Fi's seat next year while she's promoting her book. She sat there like a dolt on Maher's show, unable to give her opinion on the matters which they brought up. And then today on 'The View' she was asked the most basic, most simple questions and acted like she was being interviewed on 'Meet the Press'. I'm not understanding her motives these days.

I really liked her the past few years, watching her go toe-to-toe with the MAGAts in Congress. But if she's auditioning for Di Fi's job, she has a long way to get back on track.

R42 Can you please show me where the 'preview' button and the 'edit' button is on this forum ? I can't seem to find them. It would be so much easier to catch my mistakes before I hit 'post'.

Thanks in advance !

[quote]Except even Monica has never claimed to be a victim. She was a 24 year old adult woman and she acknowledges that she actively pursued Clinton. The left, though, is now absurdly trying to infantilize her and acts like 24 year old women have no agency.

Nothing could be further from the truth ! From day one, the left has said that Monica was a 24 year old adult woman, making her own choices and the affair was 'consensual' between her and Clinton. They never infantilized her in any respect.

It was the right wing loonies who tried to portray her as this 'innocent young girl' who didn't know right from wrong, and Clinton took advantage of her. They never portrayed her as an 'adult women' making her own adult choices.

"Boomers will never respect anyone under the age of 50. We have to wait for them to die before anything can be done about how fucked up the world is. They're demented and retarded to the extreme."

Show me what's worthy of respect in this statement. The stereotyping? The ignorance of history? The abuse, resorting to outdated insults for the developmentally disabled?

I wouldn't watch Maher on a bet and am disappointed that Porter didn't do well. I am even more bewildered about why she went on that show. It would seem that Maher's argument about the leaker could be easily dismantled. Yes, he was young but he was also a gamer with poor social skills and a need to impress. Something needs to change but banning people by age is a blunt instrument.

by Anonymousreply 87April 18, 2023 3:52 AM

R86, liberals have changed their tune. Now, everyone is a victim.

After I saw the show I thought to myself, Katie just lost her senate race. Poor performance, unprepared.

by Anonymousreply 91April 18, 2023 4:39 AM

Rep Katie Porter is very full of herself, isn't she?

by Anonymousreply 92April 18, 2023 5:24 AM

R87 well you didn't watch the show. You just critisized Maher for not making the nuanced argument that in face he DID make. His point was that 21 year old SHOULD be trustworthy adults. Because in the past they were. And legally they are. So he does NOT want "bans" on young people. He wants them to step up to the plate and be competent! And Porter, weirdly was arguing that this boy was a "TEEN" and thus of course immature because that is the way TEEN BOYS are. She was brain dead on the topic. It's as if she didn't listen to the entire set up. Maher was saying this CUNT young man was trying to impress his TEEN gamer friends. That he hadn't grown up.

by Anonymousreply 93April 18, 2023 10:38 AM

R88 Maybe so, but that was not the tune they were singing 25 years ago. They have never ever labeled Lewinsky as a 'victim'. In the years following, the liberal media has updated everyone on what a success she had become - in her education, as an entrepeneur, as a public speaker, etc. The conservative media has not - they kept her in the character of an innocent, naive intern who was taken advantage of by Clinton (which is BS).

I can see it now where the world is run by Zoomers, as the Boomers have died off.

Those empty, cavernous malls of the boomer generation will be turned into "Safe spaces" for the highly offended adult Zoomers.

Our cities will represent the Marvel Comics and DC mega-verse: Every city will become a comic-con event 24/7/365 and everyone will dress up in cosplay whenever they dare venture out in public to go to Starbucks. No more socializing, as everyone will rarely leave their pod apartments.

The global economy will be run into the ground by crypto-currency. No more banking system as we know it.

There will be a rise of incels.

Ahhh, sounds delightful. Just wait until the last of the boomers are gone.

by Anonymousreply 95April 18, 2023 3:32 PM

My god are people fucking stupid. Maher especially.

Were 21 year olds super fucking smart in 1971? Who tried to levitate the Pentagon? Who committed the My Lai Massacre? Who bought Country Joe and the Fish records?

Seriously. The tedious shit has got to go.

by Anonymousreply 96April 18, 2023 3:46 PM

Maher is currently obsessed with age and ageing. It's a big trigger for him, and I'm sorry his obsession diverted the real subject: who exactly has access to highly classified documents? Why? What are the safeguards? Does the Pentagon give a shit and will it be doing anything about it? Katie Porter did seem to have a "shit happens" attitude toward this whole leak, and I really wish she'd pivoted instead to talk about where the hell the Pentagon went wrong on this and what Congress should do about it. It's great she knows what a Discord server is, but I don't think that's the heart of the problem.

Who ate tide pods? Who is overdosing on Benedryl? Who is being hospitalized for something called “The Borg Challenge”?

Who made the Kardashians rich & famous?

by Anonymousreply 99April 18, 2023 11:57 PM

I think she missed her opportunity. She engaged in the same kind of overgeneralization they did. She should have agreed that some are but many may not be and we need to judge them as individuals. The same is true of people at any age. She should have modeled the proper logic on this rather than succumbing. And she should have been more prepared for this show. I think Maher will respond positively to a logical argument. He may get a bit defensive initially, but if you continue to explain, he will begrudgingly back off. He may not like being wrong but he will accept it.

Millennials

by Anonymousreply 101April 19, 2023 12:36 AM

r93, Of course, I didn't watch the show as my comment made clear. It's a piece of shit and Maher is over the hill.

by Anonymousreply 102April 21, 2023 2:13 AM

I often found over the past few seasons he doesn't have the right 'mix' on his panel anymore. There seldom seems to be any chemistry between the three of them. Not sure who does the booking, but they could do a better job.

by Anonymousreply 103April 21, 2023 3:35 AM

Good ole CA politics at play here. As a semi-neutral party (hehe) Adam and his constant Trump shit led to nothing more than boasting his name up (Schiff) and nothing more.

Shifty Schiff ;)
