Changing the names of series still on the air for syndication
The Laverne & Shirley opening credits thread reminded me of something very interesting.
Back in the '70s and '80s (and sometimes in the '60s,) if a show went into syndication, and was still on the air, they would change the title of the show in syndication to differentiate it from the primetime version.
So, Laverne & Shirley became Laverne & Shirley & Company. These are rare to find these days. I found this one because it was part of a promo from a local Chicago station. But I remember the syndicated version of the show having this title card. What other title changes can you remember? I don't recall that many, but there's what I do remember:
The Carol Burnett Show Carol Burnett & Friends
Happy Days Happy Days Again
The Andy Griffith Show Andy of Mayberry
The Rockford Files Jim Rockford, Private Investigator
Emergency Emergency One
Bonanza The Ponderosa
Wagon Train Major Adams, Trailmaster.
The Real McCoys The McCoys
Real People More Real People
CHiPS CHIPS Patrol
Dragnet Badge 714
Can you n words remember any others?

Do you guys remember them doing this? It was very strange- not done on a consistent basis. I don't think any Norman Lear or MTM shows ever did it. I think Marcus Welby did it, but I don't recall the alternate name.

It seems a primary reason was to distinguish the syndicated run from the same show that was still in production and airing on a major network.

R7, Valerie left the show, so they had to rename it.

I remember the Rockford Files one because my family recorded our TV viewing one week for a ratings company and I remember thinking that the name I wrote down was different to the prime time series.

"Everybody Loves Raymond" became "Everybody Hates Chris" somewhere along the way.
