HELP, DL sleuths, I'm looking for a 70's song

I haven't heard it in decades, but it was played to death in the late 70's. Can't remember anything about the actual words, except something sounding like " daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh..."it was a long melancholic ballad, sounding vaguely native american...That's all I've got

by Anonymousreply 526January 26, 2024 8:02 PM

'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep' by Lally Stott

by Anonymousreply 1April 10, 2023 6:59 PM

no. The singer was male and it was a sad ballad

by Anonymousreply 2April 10, 2023 7:12 PM

Danny Boon, Op??

by Anonymousreply 3April 10, 2023 7:18 PM

R2 Oh no, I can't believe I got it wrong.

by Anonymousreply 4April 10, 2023 7:22 PM

Not Jackie Blue, right? That was 1974

by Anonymousreply 5April 10, 2023 9:09 PM

no, it's very plaintive and melancholic

by Anonymousreply 6April 10, 2023 9:17 PM

'Cherokee People" by Paul Revere and Raiders ? It has a native American riff going on

by Anonymousreply 8April 10, 2023 9:34 PM

no, it's much more plaintive and melancholic...duh duh...duh-duh-duh-duduh.....duduh du duduh...duhduhduh duduh.......daaaa....dannyboooo....danydanyboooo....

by Anonymousreply 9April 10, 2023 9:36 PM

This reminds me of the time I was desperately trying to figure out the title of the song that I would later discover is Francis Lai's theme from "A Man And A Woman". It went on for several years, because NO ONE I sang it to had any idea what I was talking about, and I could only remember that it was used very briefly in one episode of "Will & Grace".

Keep us posted OP. Now I'm invested.

by Anonymousreply 10April 10, 2023 9:51 PM

Fascinating thread.

I can't imagine why you would think it was that song for any other reason.

by Anonymousreply 28April 10, 2023 10:16 PM

Google the Dan Fogelberg catalog, OP.

Maybe Albert Hammond?

Now I’m intrigued by this thread and must get an answer, too!

This song better not suck, OP

by Anonymousreply 32April 10, 2023 10:18 PM

Was Witchit to played all over the radio?

by Anonymousreply 39April 11, 2023 1:11 AM

The reading comprehension in this thread is even more laughable than OP's post.

by Anonymousreply 40April 11, 2023 1:11 AM

Are the lyrics in English, OP?

by Anonymousreply 41April 11, 2023 1:24 AM

I think OP trolls us. We had a similar thread a month or so ago where OP gave us the tiniest little thread of info about a song.

by Anonymousreply 42April 11, 2023 1:27 AM

It would be funny if the song OP was looking for turned out to be Danny Boy!

by Anonymousreply 43April 11, 2023 1:28 AM

Long and melancholy ballad makes me think The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot.

Or Sentimental Lady by Fleetwood Mac.

Same Auld Lang Syne by Dan Fogelberg, maybe?

I’m just ignoring the Danny Boons because those aren’t the real lyrics, is that correct?

by Anonymousreply 44April 11, 2023 1:34 AM

Sorry, didn’t see that R24 was way ahead of me with Sentimental Lady. But also by Fleetwood Mac, Bare Trees?

by Anonymousreply 45April 11, 2023 1:37 AM

At some point there was a similar post on here and the answer turned out to be "Year of the Cat" so I'm just going to post it again.

I just re-read your description and I posted Daddy Cool upthread. It's German, not Native American. And it doesn't have the syllables you mention, but I could see how Daddy Cool could sound like Danny Boon.

In related Datalounge music sleuthing, I was so happy when someone in the old Disco thread was able to identify a song that I'd been looking for years. The only part of the song I'd ever heard was the intro, and it had no lyrics so I couldn't search for it that way. It was the song used on The Facts of Life on the episode where Tootie's in a dance contest with a white boy. I linked the video of that scene and had my answer pretty quickly. Still grateful to that DLer and am listening to the song now and sending the poster my gratitude.

Hope you find your song too, OP!

by Anonymousreply 70April 11, 2023 3:10 AM

Why, surely thaat was, "Tut-Tut, Danny Boone," from "A Passage To A Room With A View..."

by Anonymousreply 71April 11, 2023 3:16 AM

My deepest apologies, R66. I didn't read the description fully before posting. I'm a caregiver for my mom, and as I was reading it, I heard a clatter in the kitchen, and I ran out there thinking she had fallen. When I came back, I posted the song that came to mind that sounded like Danny Boon. I then went back to read the original post for further clues and realized the song didn't fit all the criteria. I beg your forgiveness., as your approval and regard are of utmost importance to me. I promise I will never let it happen again.

Also, please die in the fieriest and greasiest of fires at your earliest convenience.

by Anonymousreply 77April 11, 2023 3:38 AM

I'd agree R74 but that was 1971. OP said late 70s.

by Anonymousreply 78April 11, 2023 3:39 AM

The crazy thing about the 70s songs that I grew up with is that there were SO MANY "one hit wonders." Songs that I immediately recognize today and can sing along with and yet: who?

by Anonymousreply 79April 11, 2023 3:40 AM
" daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh..."

So hard to believe no one recognizes the "tuh tuhs"!

by Anonymousreply 80April 11, 2023 3:44 AM

Thank you, R43. That actually makes perfect sense.

Dany Boon was scammed by a fake Irish lord, so the song OP is looking for is obviously the original version of Danny Boy. It's the one [italic]they[/italic] have erased from our collective consciousness. OMG, I am literally shaking!!

I'll be back later with Poo Shoes and Miss Mandela FX for confirmation, but see if this jogs your memory:

Oh, Dany Boon, tuh pipes, tuh pipes are tuhtuh

The Clues:

1. long melancholic ballad,

2. Sung by a guy

3. sounds vaguely native american.

4. Played to death in the late 1970s.

by Anonymousreply 82April 11, 2023 5:55 AM

I'm stumped by vaguely native american. Kindly elaborate.

by Anonymousreply 83April 11, 2023 6:17 AM

Asking OP to kindly elaborate, R83, is literal violence!

by Anonymousreply 84April 11, 2023 6:27 AM

A song could be played to death on "easy listening" stations in the late 70s, even if it came out in the early 70s.

I know this is true, because I know songs from early 70's The Carpenters that I only heard when my Mom drove us to kindergarten and elementary school in the late 70s.

And the songs probably weren't played to death. But to kids trapped in a car without control of the radio, it felt like "to death".

Uh, does the OP know any WORDS in the song? I don't think any identification can be made with just "daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh,"

The OP is either a cloc or a troll. Probably both.

by Anonymousreply 94April 11, 2023 7:58 PM

R94 I think troll. We had another thread recently where the OP couldn't remember a single thing about the song. I think at the end he admitted he made it up.

OP can we have a recap of basic information for people just joining the conversation?

Did you hear this song on American radio or in some other country?

Did you hear the once once or multiple times?

What types of radio stations did you listen to during the time frame you heard the song? AM? FM? Pop? Rock? Easy Listening?

Is anyone else in your family alive who you can ask about the song, see if they remember it?

by Anonymousreply 255April 15, 2023 11:42 AM

We'll politely ignore the fact that r252 is NOT the OP, per ignoredar.

by Anonymousreply 256April 15, 2023 11:48 AM

R252 is not me, he's someone who wants to close the thread. It's not the ballad of Daniel Boone, I checked that years ago. RECAP I was a kid , possibly 9/10yo = late 70s early 80s, but it did play as a nostalgia piece well into the early/mid 90's on some AM/FM/EASY LISTENING stations, and was certainly a global hit = also in Europe, at least UK/FRANCE. I don't know what to say. If you were alive between 65 and 85, you've heard that song. even if you say at loud, plaintively Daaaaaaaaaaa daaaaneebooo danee danee boooo, without any kind of melody, it should ring a bell. Sorry for the haters. I wanna know

R236 there is no way a Indian sounding, non-rhythmic, nocturnal lament was played on the radio in the late 70's early '80's with any kind of frequency such that people born from 1965 to 1985 would remember it.

Plaintive for sure. Lots of lyrics that could certainly be heard as the syllables provided. I just want an official "no" from OP so that I can move on with my life.

by Anonymousreply 294April 16, 2023 10:10 PM

OP is full of shit. There is no song that sounds like the music in R289 that was a hit in the late 70s.

by Anonymousreply 295April 16, 2023 10:15 PM

WHERE exactly in "Midnight Blue" does anyone warble "daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh?"

With all due respect, r296, if someone was singing the words daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh it would have been solved by now. The melody to Midnight Blue could fit Op’s piss poor description. Also their assertion that it was a hit in France…Midnight Blue was it was number 1 for 31 weeks. It was covered by a French group too.

And, clearly you haven’t read most of the thread…a good portion of the songs don’t fit daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh…but sure, be an asshole.
The melody to Midnight Blue could fit Op’s piss poor description.

No, it couldn't. It utilized the melody of the second movement of "Sonata Pathétique" by Beethoven! Beethoven NEVER wrote anything that even remotely sounds like "daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh.tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh", for fuck's sake.
And, clearly you haven’t read most of the thread…a good portion of the songs don’t fit daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh…but sure, be an asshole.

I HAVE read through most of the thread, asshole. The troll who created is really getting his money's worth on this one. All these idiots like you who actually think there is a song out there that goes "daaa, daannny booon, danny, danny boon.....tuh tuh, tuh tuh tuh tuhtuh tuh tuh tuhn tuhtuh." The Carpenters maybe?

Your onomatopoeia is the beat to the song or what you recalled about the lyrics? I'm confused.

OP you need to keep updating this so we know if you found it

by Anonymousreply 458May 22, 2023 9:39 PM

I haven't found it so far

by Anonymousreply 459May 22, 2023 9:45 PM

Wait, are you sure it’s “ daaaaaaaaaaaa danewbooo danew danew booooo....daaaaaaaaaaaaa danewboo danew danew?” or maybe daaaaaaaaaa danewbo danew danew booooo....daaaaaaaaaaaaa danewboo danew danew

by Anonymousreply 460May 22, 2023 10:17 PM

Forget an ear worm, I hope a tapeworm crawls up OP's ass and has to be pulled out through his piss slit.

Found it

This song tells a story about Native Americans. Not from the 70s, and no Danny Boon, but it does sort have a "tun tun tun tun" in the background.

OMG R462 Finally. Thank you

by Anonymousreply 466May 23, 2023 1:29 PM

r466, you've been pretending to be the OP for weeks. Can you stop being such a spaz? Is there a pill you're supposed to be taking?

by Anonymousreply 467May 23, 2023 1:40 PM

R467 Sweetheart, please tell me you are not taking this thread seriously. Oh my goodness.

Nick Drake - Pink Moon

(aka Danny Boon dadadadada)

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 469May 23, 2023 6:20 PM

I can't believe I'm still earnestly participating in this thread, but Pink Moon absolutely fits

by Anonymousreply 470May 23, 2023 6:22 PM

no it's not Pink Moon I'm sorry, the words are really Daaa daaanneeboooon, daneedaneeboooon

by Anonymousreply 471May 23, 2023 6:25 PM

Could it be aboriginal? Daaa daaanneeboooon, daneedaneeboooon tuh tuh etc is the sound a didgeridoo makes.

by Anonymousreply 472May 23, 2023 7:27 PM

Could it be OP is so full of shit, he may have been reincarnated as a port-a-potty at a construction site?

by Anonymousreply 473May 23, 2023 7:30 PM

I never thought it would be like this. The song exists. It's a well known song. I don't know what to say. It's so out of control now, so many posters think I'm making it up. I'm not

by Anonymousreply 474May 23, 2023 7:35 PM

OP, it's over. We just want to torture you now. '

And we will.

by Anonymousreply 475May 23, 2023 8:03 PM

So it’s a plaintive ballad sung by a man which has a new-agey Native American vibe and it was really popular in the late 70s.

Not RnB Not rock

Is this correct?

by Anonymousreply 476May 23, 2023 8:10 PM

yes R476

by Anonymousreply 477May 23, 2023 8:11 PM

And was a hit in the UK/France.

by Anonymousreply 478May 23, 2023 8:16 PM

again, correct, did you find it ?

by Anonymousreply 479May 23, 2023 8:18 PM

The song can’t possibly be that well known if all of these people have not been able to find it after several weeks. Have you considered that maybe you’re not remembering the song correctly (it’s easy to misinterpret lyrics) or it’s way more obscure than you think it is? And where is the recording you promised?

by Anonymousreply 480May 23, 2023 9:30 PM

R480 He “can’t figure out how to make a recording” - still.

by Anonymousreply 483May 24, 2023 11:47 AM

I think it is probably more da da neee e e e ew booo danewwwwww danewwwwww bo....da da newboo da new da new” rather than daaaaaaaaaaaa danewbooo danew danew booooo....daaaaaaaaaaaaa danewboo danew danew.

by Anonymousreply 484May 25, 2023 1:30 AM

you forgot the tuh tuh tuh tuh tuh tuh tuh tuuuuuuuh

by Anonymousreply 485May 25, 2023 1:31 AM

And the flu flu flu flu flu flu

by Anonymousreply 486May 25, 2023 1:38 AM

At this point, OP needs to just post his phone number so someone can call him and he can hum this “popular” song into his landline rotary phone.

by Anonymousreply 487May 25, 2023 3:04 AM

My number is 860-5309 which coincidentally is the name of the song!

Thank you, R487

by Anonymousreply 488May 25, 2023 5:52 PM

Yikes, it’s 867-5309

by Anonymousreply 489May 25, 2023 5:54 PM

Christ, no wonder he can't find this song.

by Anonymousreply 490May 25, 2023 6:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 491June 2, 2023 12:44 PM

Dust in The Wind by Kansas

by Anonymousreply 492June 4, 2023 3:56 PM

I just opened Google hummed into it song I wanted to identify since the late 1990s and that everyone claimed was Cotton Eye Joe and I knew wasn’t.

I have now discovered it is Swamp Thing by The Grid.

Thanks for reminding me to do this, OP.

by Anonymousreply 493June 4, 2023 4:51 PM

OP was it from a spaghetti western, like a Morricone song? Or some whispery Enya type stuff

by Anonymousreply 494June 6, 2023 6:28 PM

this song has a lot of nonnnon nonnno rather than Tuh tuh tuh tuh tun but it could be the song Op is looking for.

r498 did you figure out the song yet?

by Anonymousreply 499June 15, 2023 8:52 PM

NO, I didn't have time to listen to all your propositions, I've been quite overwhelmed by the wonderful success of this thread

by Anonymousreply 501June 15, 2023 9:09 PM

OK R501; I'l try that

by Anonymousreply 505June 19, 2023 9:41 PM

I think OP gave up and left. oh well, it was sort of fun strolling down memory lane. I heard tunes I have not heard in forever.

by Anonymousreply 506June 19, 2023 11:00 PM

I'm here, sorry I just lost my job, I don't have that much time.

by Anonymousreply 507June 20, 2023 9:24 PM

Sorry, OP, that sucks. Hope you find a new, and better one.

by Anonymousreply 508June 20, 2023 10:02 PM

thank you. I'm in trouble actually. I'm over 50 (even though you'd never guess)

by Anonymousreply 509June 20, 2023 10:05 PM

So the first thing I thought of was 'Daddy Cool', has that been definitively ruled out?

by Anonymousreply 510June 21, 2023 11:59 AM

Daddy Cool is melancholic how ?

by Anonymousreply 511June 21, 2023 1:02 PM
Something by Redbone?

That's what I thought. A couple of their other hits were linked earlier, but I was thinking specifically of this one. Native American-influenced group. '70s. Indecipherable lyrics, including "Boo-lah rooka hook and chain" and "Boom boom like a shi shi hand." Not a long melancholic ballad, but it's...rueful.

OP, your song description skills suck and your inability to understand and utilize song identification apps baffles, but I'm concerned about your job loss. Let us know what's going on and if anyone here can help (DL has helped other older job-seekers in the past).

by Anonymousreply 513June 21, 2023 9:40 PM

THKS R513, I was too busy curating 2 extremely successful threads to concentrate on my job.

by Anonymousreply 514June 21, 2023 9:42 PM

Maybe OP's job required utilizing song identification apps.
