I wonder when the Ronnie Spector biopic starring Zendaya will start filming

She’s too booked and busy, it may never happen.

So excited for this, love the Ronettes’ story and music.

by Anonymousreply 1April 10, 2023 1:17 AM

Zenday couldn't be less right for Ronnie Spector. Cardi B would actually make more sense if she could keep it together, thought Ronnie didn't get big breast implatns until the late 1990s or so.

by Anonymousreply 2April 10, 2023 1:28 AM

Can you imagine Zendaya approximating Ronnie's sparkplug personality? Ronnie was not a dry, soft butch.

R2 Cardi isn’t an actress.

by Anonymousreply 4April 10, 2023 1:32 AM

Neither was Eminem. Or Marky Mark.

by Anonymousreply 5April 10, 2023 1:33 AM

Just because Eminem did fine playing himself in one movie doesn’t mean he would be good at playing someone else. Mark Wahlberg took acting classes after he started getting scripts to audition for parts.

by Anonymousreply 6April 10, 2023 1:36 AM

And that's why Cardi would suit Ronnie Spector more than Zendaya. She's more of a Ronnie type.

by Anonymousreply 7April 10, 2023 1:38 AM

The Shangri-Las had it all over the Ronettes.

by Anonymousreply 8April 10, 2023 1:39 AM

Cardi is not an actress….

by Anonymousreply 9April 10, 2023 1:40 AM

[Quote] The Shangri-Las had it all over the Ronettes.

No they didn't. Shadow Morton was a wannabe Phil Spector. And Mary Weiss was a better actress than singer.

by Anonymousreply 10April 10, 2023 1:41 AM

[Quote] Cardi is not an actress….

Neither is Zendaya...

by Anonymousreply 11April 10, 2023 1:41 AM

Zendaya is an Actress. She’s a 2x Emmy winning, GG winning, Critic Choice winning, SAG nominated actress.

by Anonymousreply 12April 10, 2023 1:43 AM

Madonna is an award winning actress too...

by Anonymousreply 13April 10, 2023 1:46 AM

[quote]Cardi is not an actress….

Wasn't she in Hustlers?

I don't quite get this casting. Ronnie Specter was certainly cute, but never Zendaya level gorgeous. I think they needed to go with someone who isn't going to create this fantasy version of Specter where she was always the most beautiful woman in the room.

by Anonymousreply 14April 10, 2023 1:48 AM

Madonna won one acting award for Evita in the musical/comedy category.

by Anonymousreply 15April 10, 2023 1:48 AM

R14 anyone who is saying a non-actress with tons of plastic surgeries and who speaks like Cardi B should headline a major studio biopic about a real life person doesn’t know shit about Hollywood nor are they a fan of films.

by Anonymousreply 16April 10, 2023 1:49 AM

What category was Pia Zadora?

by Anonymousreply 17April 10, 2023 1:50 AM

Teyana Taylor is set to play Dionne Warwick. It may work out, it may not. Zendaya will not do justice to Ronnie Spector.

by Anonymousreply 18April 10, 2023 1:50 AM

Pia was an actress. Correct.

by Anonymousreply 19April 10, 2023 1:51 AM

R3 ZZZendaya is nothing like her. But at least when the reviews of how horrific she was playing Ronnie come out, she can just cry about Giuliana Rancic being racist towards her and she may win The Oscar for the sympathy gathered.

I agree that the Shangri-Las were overall better, though I like Ronnie's voice more than Mary's. The Phil Spector machine had more hype, but I'm more impressed with the Shangri-Las songs than I am with The Ronnettes. Shame Shadow Morton didn't have a longer career, he was doing some proto-punk things with the girl groups.

by Anonymousreply 21April 10, 2023 1:51 AM

Teyana Taylor has been acting. She took acting lessons years ago. She’s currently in a movie in theaters.

by Anonymousreply 22April 10, 2023 1:51 AM

Bette Midler was not known as an actress when she played a version of Janis Joplin in "The Rose." And Bette still isn't widely regarded as a good actress. But she was well cast in her film debut.

by Anonymousreply 23April 10, 2023 1:52 AM

Marky Mark is a horrible actor.

by Anonymousreply 24April 10, 2023 1:52 AM

And Skai Jackson has been acting. She's still terrible. Do a good job or don't. That's all that matters.

by Anonymousreply 25April 10, 2023 1:53 AM

Dear God r23. Your fucking trolling is reaching endless limits. Do some motherfucking research before commenting shit like that. Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 26April 10, 2023 1:53 AM

R24 that’s a matter of opinion.

R25 what major films has she headlined????

by Anonymousreply 27April 10, 2023 1:53 AM

Too bad Rosie Perez is too old.

by Anonymousreply 28April 10, 2023 1:54 AM

[quote] But at least when the reviews of how horrific she was playing Ronnie come out, she can just cry about Giuliana Rancic being racist towards her and she may win The Oscar for the sympathy gathered.

[quote]Rancic, the then-E! News anchor and Fashion Police host, said Zendaya's hair looked like "she smells like patchouli oil and weed."

Oh, c'mon.

How could any normal person NOT think Rancic's comment wasn't a bit racist.

by Anonymousreply 29April 10, 2023 1:55 AM

[Quote] Dear God [R23]. Your fucking trolling is reaching endless limits. Do some motherfucking research before commenting shit like that. Seriously

Bette was a replacement as one of the daughters in Fiddler On The Roof. Her acting credits didn't amount to much more of that pre-The Rose.

by Anonymousreply 30April 10, 2023 1:56 AM

R29 the racist retard brings up Rancic, an E! Host who most of the world doesn’t know, on every thread about Zendaya.

by Anonymousreply 31April 10, 2023 1:56 AM

R30 Bette Midler studied acting. She practiced acting. Credits don’t change that she knew how to act. Fucking retard.

by Anonymousreply 32April 10, 2023 1:57 AM

Maybe Rosie Perez could play the mother. Zenday should play cousin Nedra Talley.

by Anonymousreply 33April 10, 2023 1:57 AM

Zendaya is so plain and basic.

by Anonymousreply 34April 10, 2023 1:59 AM

Bette Midler didn't practise hard enough.

weighing in at 32 pounds, Giuliana Rancic, peddles her wares on HSN or QVC. She has a super hot husband.

by Anonymousreply 36April 10, 2023 2:03 AM

Why did they give her a chance? I can smell the weed and patchouli a mile away. I mean I appreciate the thrifty calorie count but seriously!

by Anonymousreply 37April 10, 2023 2:10 AM

R27 only if "matter of opinion" actually means matter of fact in Marky Mark's case.

Horrible actor

by Anonymousreply 38April 10, 2023 2:15 AM

[quote][R14] anyone who is saying a non-actress with tons of plastic surgeries and who speaks like Cardi B should headline a major studio biopic about a real life person doesn’t know shit about Hollywood nor are they a fan of films

Did I SAY Cardi B should play Ronnie Spector or do you just lack reading comprehension?

by Anonymousreply 39April 10, 2023 2:47 AM

I wish Ronnie could have gotten traction with her album after take me home tonight. Would have been a cool second act for her.

by Anonymousreply 40April 10, 2023 3:05 AM

The album wasn't up to much. Her first album, Siren, is pretty solid. Those Marshall Crenshaw demos she did in the late 1980s also suited her. Her 2000s recordings were mostly on the drab side. "Can't Put Your Arms a Memory" is very poignant, though.

by Anonymousreply 41April 10, 2023 3:08 AM

Remember when ZZZendaya and her friend Amandla (something) stein or berg felt the need to school everyone on cornrows dated back to the 1970s and how only women of color could wear or it was cultural appropriation.

Did Leonardo's sketch in 1505 come after the 1970s?

Ronnie was sexy and sultry. Zendaya is way too bland to play her. They should find an unknown for Ronnie.

by Anonymousreply 43April 10, 2023 3:19 AM

[quote]Ronnie was sexy and sultry. Zendaya is way too bland to play her. They should find an unknown for Ronnie.

I can agree with that (I posted the comment you replied to). Zendaya is absolutely stunning and sexy in model-y way, but not curvy or, as you said, sultry. But I wouldn't call Zendaya bland. She's elegant. But she's an excellent actress, and who knows? Maybe she'll nail it.

by Anonymousreply 44April 10, 2023 4:19 AM

R8 Remember (Walking in the Sand) was perfection.

by Anonymousreply 45April 10, 2023 4:32 AM

r45 "Be My Baby" was equally perfect. I liked all the girl groups. My favorite songs were "Then He Kissed Me" and "Da Doo Ron Ron." I wish the Crystals had gotten to make more records.

How is Zendaya ever going to sound like this?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 47April 10, 2023 5:09 AM

Zendaya is a tall skinny cold clothes hanger. Ronnie a spunky little spitfire. Totally wrong casting. Zendaya could maybe play one of the background cousins….

by Anonymousreply 48April 10, 2023 1:08 PM

Stop trying to make this girl happen. She’ll be gone before you know it.

by Anonymousreply 49April 10, 2023 1:18 PM

R29 Rancic was sitting at a round-table with Joan Rivers ffs. Their job was to be brash and off-the-cuff. Patchouli oil and weed makes one think of derpy white hippy. Try harder.

by Anonymousreply 50April 10, 2023 1:24 PM

Princess Meghan of Overseas could play Ronnie, she has spunk and the legs!

by Anonymousreply 51April 10, 2023 1:26 PM

Having read Ronnie Spector's book, I really don't think there's all that much there to make up an interesting bio-pic.

Her parents split up, but her home life as a kid wasn't particularly chaotic or traumatic. She idolized Frankie Lymon, her mother somehow arranged a meeting with him, he showed up drunk and made a pass at her.

She formed the group with her sister and cousin, they worked locally and at the Peppermint Lounge, made a few flop singles, then were discovered by Phil Spector. Hits and fame ensue, she hangs out with the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. She hooks up with Phil, who moves her to a mansion in LA and locks her away from the world, effectively ending her career. They adopt some kids. He gets crazier and crazier. She becomes an alcoholic. She eventually escapes and divorces him. One of her kids runs away and disowns her.

She remarries, and has another couple of kids.

Despite support from some big rock stars, there is no Tina Turner style comeback, other than a one-off hit duet with Eddie Money.

The Ronettes get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She dies. The end.

by Anonymousreply 52April 10, 2023 1:50 PM

[quote]Having read Ronnie Spector's book, I really don't think there's all that much there to make up an interesting bio-pic.

She had to sneak out of the house with nothing but the clothes on her back to escape from Phil. That's pretty dramatic.

And the music would be fabulous - not just the Ronettes but the whole Spector scene.

by Anonymousreply 53April 10, 2023 2:04 PM

R50 100% gets it. Fuck that trouble making little twat, ZZZendaya!

by Anonymousreply 54April 10, 2023 2:05 PM

I wish Darlene Love got to make more songs as The Crystals. They charted better than she did for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 55April 10, 2023 3:23 PM

Yay

by Anonymousreply 56March 26, 2025 2:42 PM

On the right it looks like Irene Cara a little bit.

by Anonymousreply 57March 26, 2025 5:11 PM

I wonder who will play Nedra Talley - I always thought she was so pretty.

by Anonymousreply 58March 26, 2025 6:34 PM

Phil Spector - now *that* will be the role of a lifetime!

Who will play the unstable genius?

by Anonymousreply 59March 26, 2025 6:48 PM

R59 Timmy

by Anonymousreply 60March 26, 2025 6:58 PM

r55 "Then He Kissed Me" and "Da Doo Ron Ron" were simply better songs than "He's a Rebel" or "He's Sure the Boy I Love."

by Anonymousreply 61March 26, 2025 7:00 PM

[quote][R59] Timmy

Please God no.

by Anonymousreply 62March 26, 2025 8:03 PM

1989-era Sean Penn would be perfect to play Phil Spector. If only.

by Anonymousreply 63March 26, 2025 11:23 PM

Oscar, here she comes 😊

by Anonymousreply 64March 26, 2025 11:45 PM

r60 Timmy would be great as young Phil, who was 24 when he produced such hits as "Be My Baby" and "Then He Kissed Me."

by Anonymousreply 65March 27, 2025 12:03 AM

John Turturro did a great job as a Spector-in-all-but-name character in Grace of My Heart.

(I just looked it up and that was almost 30 years ago, how is that possible?)

by Anonymousreply 66March 27, 2025 1:01 AM

R66 love that film!

by Anonymousreply 67March 27, 2025 1:30 AM

Oh, I thought you all were recommending Timmy to play Nedra Talley.
