Jeff Foxworthy

He was born in Atlanta, Georgia to a traditional Southern Baptist family, who helped him go to the Georgia Institute of Technology. After a stint as a computer programmer at IBM, he started doing stand-up comedy throughout the southern United States.

In 1993, he released his first stand-up album "You Might be a Redneck If...," which sold more than three million copies. He soon became a household name with HBO specials, hosting award shows, and a prime-time sitcom on ABC. He once again struck big with the Blue Collar Comedy Tour in the early 2000's. In 2009, he returned to television with the show "Are You Smarter than Fifth Grader?" He has written eleven books, two cookbooks, invited a few board games, and appeared as a guest on Shark Tank.

Always honest, never controversial, and damned funny, let's discuss the American comedian Jeff Foxworthy.

He has never been political. Ever.

by Anonymousreply 1April 9, 2023 9:36 PM

He smartly played the cards he was dealt. He was never really a redneck, but had the voice and looks and familiarity with that population to go that direction to huge success. He always seems cool in interviews and it seems like he's widely liked in the industry.

by Anonymousreply 2April 9, 2023 9:39 PM

R2 Agreed! He is also funny without making rednecks seem discriminated against.

by Anonymousreply 3April 9, 2023 9:41 PM

He’s no Lewis Grizzard.

by Anonymousreply 4April 9, 2023 10:01 PM

r3 honestly, this is what sets a good comedian apart from a comedian out for cheap laughs. A good one can get the topic of conversation to laugh along with the joke, or poke a few holes at a topic without making it their entire routine.

Also, cursing, is way overrated. When used correctly, it can cement a punchline, when used liberally, it weighs down the act.

by Anonymousreply 5April 9, 2023 10:04 PM

He's absolutely fine, but he's so safe and uninteresting.

by Anonymousreply 6April 9, 2023 10:06 PM

Complete trash

by Anonymousreply 7April 9, 2023 10:07 PM

If you want everyone on DL to crawl into a hole and die

by Anonymousreply 8April 9, 2023 10:22 PM

R7 how is he trashy? I think he is a classy guy- kind, smart, stays out of the tabloids, never marginalizes a group he is poking fun at, and best of all he never uses his "celebrity" as a platform to share his political opinions (I remember it was leaked he voted for, and supports Romney).

by Anonymousreply 9April 9, 2023 10:30 PM

R6 I think he is funny. It makes me think of my hometown and some of my family.

by Anonymousreply 10April 9, 2023 10:30 PM

If you think Jeff Foxworthy is funny look for something like "100 jokes to read in the bathroom" from a Christian bookstore. You'll break a rib.

[quote] Let's discuss the American comedian Jeff Foxworthy.

Let's not, OP.

If you have to be the "Let's discuss" troll and post dull Wikipedia entries about tepid people to start a thread, at least don't suggest unfunny assholes like this guy.

by Anonymousreply 12April 9, 2023 10:45 PM

This is funny

He should play Mike Lindell in Oliver Stone's Trump movie

by Anonymousreply 14April 9, 2023 10:47 PM

I'm from Atlanta and Jeff has been a big deal there forever, but as the say timing is everything. I don't think he'd be as successful starting out today now that rednecks are political and closely associated with MAGA. Rednecks were funnier when they were too dumb to vote

by Anonymousreply 15April 9, 2023 10:56 PM

[quote]He has written eleven books, two cookbooks, invited a few board games

What did he invite them to?

by Anonymousreply 16April 9, 2023 11:27 PM

R16 A rally of some sort

by Anonymousreply 17April 9, 2023 11:30 PM

R16 invent, sorry.

by Anonymousreply 18April 9, 2023 11:33 PM

He looks hot in R13's thumbnail.

by Anonymousreply 19April 9, 2023 11:49 PM

He’s a born again Christian although not of the more obnoxious type and a mainstream Republican who liked Bush and Romney. He’s also over 60 at this point. Make of all that what you will. Probably wants Youngkin in but not Trump.

by Anonymousreply 20April 10, 2023 1:21 AM

R20 He didn't like Trump

by Anonymousreply 21April 10, 2023 1:25 AM

R21 So he said he voted for Hills or Joe then?

by Anonymousreply 22April 10, 2023 1:27 AM

R22 No. He will never share his real views, which is why I like him.

by Anonymousreply 23April 10, 2023 1:29 AM

He's no Red Skeleton...I'd like to see Foxworthy do Freddie the Freeloader.

by Anonymousreply 24April 10, 2023 1:30 AM

Jeff Foxworthy gives what you describe as universal humor. With the rise of edgy comedians in the 70s, mostly black, more attention has been given to these type of comedians. Not that the Eddie Murphy’s, Richard, Andrew Dice Clays aren’t brilliant but it non family oriented comedians get all the shine from the press. Bill Cosby was also wildly successful doing clean comedy. Foxworthy is the blue collar down south version.

by Anonymousreply 25April 10, 2023 1:39 AM

R23 Sounds like he says he is anti-Trump for his entertainment/audience connections but secretly votes for him in the booth.

by Anonymousreply 26April 10, 2023 1:44 AM

I always thought he was hot.

by Anonymousreply 27April 10, 2023 1:48 AM

He’s no Larry The Cable Guy

by Anonymousreply 28April 10, 2023 1:52 AM

One Christmas, my nephew got his grandfather (my old dad) a daily calendar as a gift -- the "you might be a redneck" calendar. We read a couple of them out loud, and I have to admit, the jokes were funny. Then my nephew said, "Yeah, I thought grandpa would like this because we are a family of rednecks."

I think both me and my dad were offended by that comment ... when I was growing up, "redneck" meant the same thing as "poor white trash."

by Anonymousreply 29April 10, 2023 1:55 AM

He talked shit about Hillary Clinton in one of his Redneck Comedy Tour shows. Thrre's no way in hell he voted for her, R22. I stopped watching him after that.

by Anonymousreply 30April 10, 2023 1:58 AM

Very unfunny, predictable stuff. Owning Redneck-dom (despite being middle class) was his schtick to tell a lot of old jokes.

Great comics tell truths--not necessarily big ones--but they cut through the predictable: Richard Pryor, Robin William (early days), Chris Rock, Mort Sahl, George Carlin, Lenny Bruce before he was crazy. Some people tell truths but just get angry as what happened with Dick Gregory. Foxworthy, though, is just a dick.

by Anonymousreply 31April 10, 2023 2:04 AM

R29 white people reclaimed that word in the early aughts. And then rising incomes and moving up social ladder many rednecks were clearly upper middle class. I love it. I just wish so many of them didn’t vote Trump.

by Anonymousreply 32April 10, 2023 2:06 AM

R31 Some truths mean two things can be true at the same time. One can be middle class and a redneck. The reason why I speak on that because my dad did wrong growing up. He laid a foundation for us. We were judged by the educated holier than thou black crowd. Not all but many. We were ‘hood rich’, but not rich if you know what that phrase means.. Also growing up in DC there were many of black peers whos parents propelled up the socioeconomic latter through the federal government. Many became upper middle with high paying salaries. The point of the story is never judge a book by its cover. This is America. And I know it’s different for white people who usually follow a more strait laced past.

by Anonymousreply 33April 10, 2023 2:11 AM

And Non-white people too

by Anonymousreply 34April 10, 2023 2:12 AM

R30 or maybe he ranked on her because she is easy fodder for a comedian. I voted for her of course but the first woman with a viable chance of being president husband cheated on her while president in the White House and she didn’t leave him. And talked shit about her.

by Anonymousreply 35April 10, 2023 2:13 AM

R33: Black people stopped sucking up to you and Jeff Foxworthy somehow tells your truth? He's a comfortable guy recycling old jokes and you're a pathetic troll in your PJs ranting at the computer in your basement.

by Anonymousreply 36April 10, 2023 2:14 AM

He looks like the genius they call Martin Mull.

by Anonymousreply 37April 10, 2023 2:17 AM

In 1990, as a then-unknown young comedian, he was pranked on Candid Camera.

And she writes with all the inventiveness and energy of someone's dire tenth-grade book report.

by Anonymousreply 56April 10, 2023 1:42 PM

r30, I don't think that's true. He did however make a crack about Obama and seemed to be pro-Trump. He also was very public about his endorsement of Romney. I don't know where the "he's never political" stuff comes from.

[quote]Foxworthy publicly endorsed and campaigned for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in 2012, we found no evidence that he has endorsed 2016 GOP nominee Donald Trump, nor that he said he was "terrified for our nation" if Hillary Clinton should become President.

[quote]About the only bit of truth to this piece was that back in September 2015, in response to a question about whether Trump's style of campaigning was "tapping into American patriotism," Foxworthy made reference to President Obama's mythical "apology tour, saying: "Absolutely, [Trump] is tapping into the American spirit. I think people are fed up with having a commander in chief that does the apology tour around the world.”

by Anonymousreply 57April 10, 2023 1:45 PM

[quote]Red Skeleton

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 58April 10, 2023 1:47 PM

He said he doesn't like to get political.

His saying Trump is tapping into the "spirit of America" could mean a lot of things. I, not a Trump supporter, think he did tap into the "spirit of America" too.

Of course Foxworthy is a Republican, it is just how much of a Trumper he is. My guess he voted for him but doesn't like him.

by Anonymousreply 61April 10, 2023 1:57 PM

I remembered this clip from "Family Guy." At the time -- which was when I was coming out and saw hidden gay meaning in everything -- I thought the joke was that he was gay and it was an open secret. Since then, I always had it in the back of my mind that he's gay (and because he doesn't come up often, I never questioned it). Any rumors? I figured someone would have mentioned it by now if it were common knowledge, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

[quote]His saying Trump is tapping into the "spirit of America" could mean a lot of things.

He was asked if Trump was tapping into patriotism and he said "Absolutely," then he added that Trump was tapping "into the spirit of America," and then complained about Obama going on a "worldwide apology tour" which NEVER HAPPENED and was rightwing propaganda to begin with.

I think it's pretty clear. I don't know why you're so fucking confused.

by Anonymousreply 63April 10, 2023 2:26 PM

That’s disappointing about his pro trump statement. on a practical level, and I’m not making a joke about this, there’s a lot of people, especially entertainers that know that if their audience that their finances depend on is 90% armed in a live show and on the street, they tend to conform. I find it sad personally. That’s the main reason why i don’t go places around that demographic, as a bystander.

He seems like a creative comedian that focuses on a particular subculture. personally, I found his work funny. I think it’s quite sensitive. And it’s interesting to see the observations that he makes. I would say that he understands a subculture similar to the way that a few other successful comedians from the past have done. I think also, what happens is that Foxworthy has such a strong accent that Foxworthy actually uses it to his advantage and that’s what I have found interesting.

by Anonymousreply 64April 10, 2023 2:50 PM

So, r62…do you reckon Jeff’s a top or a bottom.

Ooh, R65, that is a fun game!

If you've sat on more laps than it takes to win the Indy 500... you might be a bottom. If you refer to your backside as your "man cave"... you might be a bottom. If you think the "Lost Cause" was when the water was still not clear by the time he rang your buzzer... you might be a bottom.

by Anonymousreply 67April 10, 2023 4:31 PM

R57, unless I hallucinated while I was watching his show, yes, it's true.

by Anonymousreply 68April 10, 2023 5:28 PM

^ R30, not R50, sorry I'm a big dumbass, but I still watching him talk shit about Clinton.

by Anonymousreply 69April 10, 2023 5:29 PM

Is he cut or uncut?

by Anonymousreply 70April 10, 2023 5:55 PM

Wow so I had to google some of his recent stuff. I used to like mid aughts stuff I would catch on Comedy Central. But boy this is rough. This show seems absolutely corny. Good God.

by Anonymousreply 71April 10, 2023 9:39 PM
