It has been awhile. So, while we are here, shall we discuss mayonnaise? I love Dukes. Does anyone else disagree?

Mrs. Dukes found a commercial use for her discharge.

I find Dukes too acidic. Pass the Hellmann’s please.

Blueplate, baby!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 8, 2023 1:03 AM |
I like Dukes.
I used to love Hellman's, but the last jar I bought tasted fishy-- they make it with soybean oil, something I can't stand anymore. I had to throw it out.
I don't want a whiff of fish on my fried egg sandwich and at what, $5-something a jar, I'm not chancing it again!

This thread will end in tears.

I just use Best Foods (Hellman's). I've also used Kewpie (the red cap) and that was good, as well.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 8, 2023 1:12 AM |
I always used Hellman's but about 10 years ago I switched to Veganaise and it is terrific.

Another Dukes fan

Another vote for Blue Plate. Just the right amount of tang.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 8, 2023 2:17 AM |
Since I was a kid, it's always been Blueplate Mayonnaise, in my Mama's potato salad, on sandwiches and hamburgers, as part of tuna or egg salad, or as a salad dressing, etc. Blueplate Mayonnaise rules.

Miracle Whip! đź‘‹

Dukes. Should have been a poll.

Miracle Whip may be what’s poisoning you, R11.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 8, 2023 2:26 AM |
Kraft. If they don’t have it I just get the store brand.

No babe, it isn't. ;)
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 8, 2023 2:33 AM |
I only use Kewpie now. It's delicious.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 8, 2023 2:45 AM |
It's Dukes. Hellman's does okay in something like chicken or potato salad, but on any sandwich it's just not the move.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 8, 2023 2:49 AM |
We don't have Duke's around my area in NorCal, so haven't tasted it. I bought some Kewpie on Amazon several months back and am almost through the first bottle (didn't know it came 2 to a pack). I don't taste anything especially spectacular about it, to be honest. Just tastes like your average mayo to me.
I will echo that I think Veganaise is pretty good, but there was an Olive Oil mayo I bought a few years back and unfortunately I don't recall what kind, but it was one of the bigger brands. It was VERY good and had a little tang to it as well. I really wish I could remember what it was, because I'd buy it again. I don't use mayo a lot so it could have been at least 4 years ago.
Ah, senior moments at 54.

I probably will buy it when i run out next time r20

R2- Remember that when you bring out the Hellmann’s you bring out the best.

I used to love Hain Safflower mayo but my taste has changed and now I go for Best Foods or Kraft, whichever is on sale.

^^Oops, not sure how my reply at r81 ended up on this thread...was meant for the egg salad thread.

OP, of the big national brands, yes, Duke's for sure. I like my mayo creamy with a real vinegary zip. That said, one that I think is better than Duke's is the Trader Joe's mayo which is even creamier and... zippier. But, funnily enough, NOT their organic mayo, but their 'regular' mayo in the yellow labeled jar.
Although, now I'm reading that this mayo has been discontinued. Heartbreaking.

we love dukes too but lately have tried to make mayo more often. if you have an immersion blender, it's a snap. for years we never made our own because the whole slow whisk dribble oil emulsion thing was tedious and inconsistent. someone told us to use an immersion blender in a mason jar and it was honestly so easy and delicious we might never go back. it takes a minute and the end result is tasty and fool proof. i feel like lord grantham for being scared of the obviously better piece of modern technology.

The homemade stuff is great for making pimento cheese!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 8, 2023 3:15 AM |
R27 how long does that homemade mayo last in the fridge?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 8, 2023 4:20 AM |
I buy either Kroger or Aldi brand, whatever is cheaper. They're both similar to Hellman's. Never a quality issue with either.

Oh look! It's the semi-annual "Favorite Mayonnaise" thread.
Hellmann's Vegan Mayo
American Gardens Eggless Mayo (when I can't find Hellmann's)
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 8, 2023 6:22 AM |
When it’s so easy to whip up vastly superior fresh mayonnaise from scratch I cannot understand why anyone buys it in a jar. People have become so lazy.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 8, 2023 6:25 AM |
Years ago before my aunt turned full-on vegan, I made a sandwich & noticed the dressing tasted really bad. I did a double-take: it was actually called Nayonnaise.
Best Foods for me.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 8, 2023 6:34 AM |
[r29] - not long, to be fair. we tend to make it when we know we'll eat it in the course of a day, or need it for a recipe. apparently if you pasteurize your egg it will last for a long time but we've never actually tried that.

Dukes is for The Poors. And fatties.

Kewpie 4 life
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 8, 2023 6:48 PM |
What makes Kewpie so special other than it has more egg yolks?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 8, 2023 6:54 PM |
Best Foods. Duke's is a tad greasy.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 8, 2023 7:01 PM |
Hate to break it to you R4, but regular Duke's also contains soybean oil. Even their "Olive Oil" product contains soybean and canola oils.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 8, 2023 7:11 PM |
[quote]What makes Kewpie so special other than it has more egg yolks?
It also has a generous amount of tangyness and MSG, which brings out the flavor of whatever you're using it with. Plus, I love the squeeze bottle. You've never had a great ranch dressing unless you've made it with Kewpie and real buttermilk.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 8, 2023 8:08 PM |
Where can you find “real” buttermilk R41? The stuff they sell in grocery stores is crap!
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 8, 2023 8:12 PM |
It's Dukes #1 for me. Fail that I'll go with Hellman's. The rest are all garbage.
