Wow thanks for posting his handsome face! Most country sounds like fingernails on the chalkboard to me, so this is the first time I’ve encountered this singer. What a handsome fellow. I wonder if he is an introvert, and why he chose to use a mask. I have a suspicion that people have told him that he is good looking. It is horrible that he had to face such ignorance, I’m glad he was able to persist through it and inspire others.

I've loved his voice since I first heard his music--reminds me of Roy Orbison. Straightforward but very atmospheric, dark country music. Certainly a hell of lot more listenable (and interesting) than the mainstream country garbage we get from hetero country artists.

He definitely pulled a Lana Del Rey in terms of reinventing himself. He was once a young twink punk drummer before he created the moody gay cowboy persona of Orville Peck. Lana did the same thing—she (with a little help from Interscope) went from being folky singer-songwriter Lizzy Grant, to a glamorous '50s vamp with a hip hop flair. In both cases, their change-ups were successes and put them on the map.

His music kind of sucks, but then I think most country music sucks, so I guess he has that going for him.

Maybe the mask is to make sure he doesn't get beaten up by male redneck C&W fans when he's off-stage? Country music is hardly a demographic that skews liberal. k.d. lang had to basically give up on the genre because her butchness was too much in the 80s and 90s for them.

It also could have been that when he was also working as a punk drummer he wanted to keep the two personae separate.
