S Club 7 star Paul Cattermole Is DEAD TO ME!!

He died weeks after a reunion tour was announced. Sad. I wonder if they will cancel it.

How sad. I have to say that I wouldn't be surprised if it was suicide. He had a miserable life after leaving the band.

by Anonymousreply 1April 7, 2023 2:56 PM

Fame is one hell of a drug.

by Anonymousreply 2April 7, 2023 2:58 PM

He eBayed his Brit award a few years ago.

I LOVED S Club 7 as a kid. So many catchy singles. They were like Steps but even less cool, if that's possible.

The second season of their TV show featured Linda Blair, of all people, as their landlady.

And so what?

by Anonymousreply 4April 7, 2023 3:07 PM

He was hot back in the day. What a shame for his family and friends. Very sad. They had some good songs, Reach was very annoying but their more chill stuff was good, 2 in a million, Natural and you’re my number one, all great. And R4 you don’t have to comment on everything dear.

by Anonymousreply 5April 7, 2023 3:42 PM

R5 you took the words out of my mouth. I saw r4 comment and thought “you don’t have to comment on every thread”. Just scroll past it.

Thanks for confirming that the block on r4 was the right move.

Anyway, poor S Club.. Time has not been kind.

That's something a drug addict would do.

by Anonymousreply 8April 7, 2023 3:51 PM

I’m low key devastated by the news. I was such a fan of S Club back in the day. Paul was my gay awakening during the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 9April 7, 2023 7:14 PM

I liked S Club, they were fun and breezy and had a more lighthearted vibe than American boy bands of that time. Great music for a beach party or something.

by Anonymousreply 10April 7, 2023 7:22 PM

He couldn't afford an outfit for a TV appearance in 2018. Poor guy.

His dad was jailed for what Americans call statutory rape in 2002. He left the group the same year. Can't have been easy for him.

[quote]I liked S Club, they were fun and breezy and had a more lighthearted vibe than American boy bands of that time.

Let's be real, S Club 7 was corny and so was their Fox Family TV show, which was geared toward middle schoolers and under.

Like a British California Dreams, only that was a fake band.

You can't compare to Backstreet Boys or NSYNC.

by Anonymousreply 15April 7, 2023 10:12 PM

S Club 7 have had such bad luck. I feel sorry for them. Steps have had their issues but they seem to have pulled it together and made some good records.

by Anonymousreply 16April 7, 2023 10:39 PM

I'm thinking suicide. Poor bloke.

by Anonymousreply 17April 7, 2023 10:41 PM

While we're guessing, seems like an odd time to suicide given potential fame and fortune is planned with the reunion. 46 is awfully young for natural ailments though.

by Anonymousreply 18April 7, 2023 11:08 PM

Why do we keep comparing them to boy bands? S Club was a mixed gender band with more girls than guys.

by Anonymousreply 19April 7, 2023 11:16 PM

R15 you're saying those boybands weren't corny???? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

by Anonymousreply 20April 7, 2023 11:19 PM

Paul Cattermole was on First Dates a few years ago. I didn’t see the episode, but it was featured on Gogglebox UK.

He was very sweet and vulnerable and was embarrassed to say he was an ex pop singer.

The date turned him down because of his awkwardness.

by Anonymousreply 24April 8, 2023 1:13 AM

This is very sad. Obviously I don't know anything about what was really going on but I get the sense that he was kind of lost.

by Anonymousreply 27April 8, 2023 1:34 AM

I've never heard of this band. So I went to their wiki page to see they had about a half dozen songs that reached the top five in the early 2000s in the UK.

Other than one hit in 1999, they never charted in the states. It's so crazy they were so big in the UK yet hardly ever charted in the US.

by Anonymousreply 28April 8, 2023 1:41 AM

They were like a British attempt at K-Pop. Manufactured catchy tunes performed to strict choreography. They were good wholesome fun.

by Anonymousreply 29April 8, 2023 1:42 AM

R28 ummmm they were a British pop group.

I think you need to get your eyes checked. Every single of theirs was in the Top 5 in the UK, with four #1s. Their only US hit came out in 2000.

by Anonymousreply 30April 8, 2023 1:46 AM

R29 how were they attempting to be K-Pop 2 decades before K-Pop was ever a thing in the states? Use your brain.

by Anonymousreply 31April 8, 2023 1:47 AM

R30 Wow. Your reading comprehension sucks.

I said that they had a string of hits in the early 2000s in the UK.

How are you this dense?

by Anonymousreply 32April 8, 2023 1:50 AM

Who cares about the states and when K-pop hit there? Has no relevance to my post at all. Typical yank, thinking everything has to be about you.

by Anonymousreply 33April 8, 2023 1:50 AM

You said “about a half dozen” r33. What’s a half dozen? Let’s see if you know.

by Anonymousreply 34April 8, 2023 1:51 AM

Ain’t no funeral like an S club funeral!

by Anonymousreply 35April 8, 2023 1:52 AM

What's the story behind his money troubles? Scammed by someone he trusted? Drugs?

by Anonymousreply 36April 8, 2023 1:52 AM

R33 something can’t be attempting to be something that wasn’t a thing yet. KPop wasn’t a think in the UK or USA in 2000

by Anonymousreply 37April 8, 2023 1:52 AM

Thing*

by Anonymousreply 39April 8, 2023 1:55 AM

K-pop started in 1996. Just because you didn’t know what it was at the time doesn’t mean music execs in Britain didn’t. It was considered catchy and wholesome and that’s what S-Club was like. My point was they shared those similarities.

by Anonymousreply 40April 8, 2023 1:59 AM

R36 Their manager (Simon Fuller) basically got them to sign a contract that meant he got pretty much most of the money the band made. They were on about £150,000 a year and that's it. Which was a lot of money then for a young person but wasn't going to make them millionaires.

by Anonymousreply 41April 8, 2023 1:59 AM

R40 again, it was not a thing in the UK or USA. That doesn’t mean there weren’t some people who liked it, but it wasn’t popular. It wasn’t charting. It was one of those things

by Anonymousreply 42April 8, 2023 2:00 AM

And I never stated that. Reread my original post. You keep putting forward arguments that are made up in your head. I never mentioned charting, popularity or any such shit. I just said that in my opinion they were more like a K-pop band.

by Anonymousreply 43April 8, 2023 2:04 AM

My favorite hit of theirs is Tearin' Up My Heart

by Anonymousreply 44April 8, 2023 2:06 AM

They kind of reminded me of the spice girls the way they were all supposed to be playing a role.

by Anonymousreply 47April 8, 2023 2:08 AM

R46 you asked a question about Emilio Estevez two weeks ago on a thread and received an answer. Two weeks later you make a thread asking the same question.

You compare them to KPop when that wasn’t even a thing in 2000 UK, and then make a separate thread about KPop. But I need the help? Time for some self-evaluating from you.

by Anonymousreply 48April 8, 2023 2:10 AM

R45 what persona role did each play? Specifically interested in the 3 males.

by Anonymousreply 49April 8, 2023 2:12 AM

R49 I don’t really remember. I was a teen when their show came out and I remember thinking that at the time. I watched a few episodes but wasn’t into them.

R48 You are severely mistaken - check your records, most certainly not me

by Anonymousreply 51April 8, 2023 2:15 AM

by Anonymousreply 66April 8, 2023 10:47 AM

by Anonymousreply 88April 9, 2023 10:37 PM

R41 I don't really understand the entitlement they seemed to have about being millionaires. Hannah did an interview a few weeks ago whining about being poor.

£150,000 a year was a LOT of money for the years they were active. They could have bought London property and become millionaires through that, given how much house prices have increased. They could have invested. They could have retrained and gone into other careers. Being in a pop group for a few years in your 20s doesn't entitle you to lifelong wealth and work in the music industry. It's not like they were so incredibly famous that living normal lives would have been impossible.

by Anonymousreply 89April 10, 2023 1:02 AM

R89 I think they have a right to be annoyed if they were only making a small percentage of the income they generated.

However, Hannah has had a solid but not great acting career in the 20 years since so I'm shocked she's broke.

by Anonymousreply 90April 10, 2023 1:07 AM

Didn't Hannah have a TV show that ran for at least five years? I know actors in the UK don't get the big paychecks of Hollywood but still... living in an office over the Christmas period? I suspect a lot of money went up their noses.

by Anonymousreply 91April 10, 2023 1:11 AM

R89 A bit unrealistic. They were young and entertainers, not property investors or entrepreneurs. I think Fuller did do them dirty; he took advantage of their youth and lack of money savvy by taking most of the money. Fuller is estimated to be worth a ginormous $650m.

by Anonymousreply 92April 10, 2023 9:30 AM

Fuller definitely took advantage but I'm not sure that Paul or Hannah (or Tina) deserve to be all that rich either, as their contribution to the songs was negligible. Jo O'Meara carried that band, with help from Bradley, Rachel and Jon.

by Anonymousreply 93April 10, 2023 9:41 AM

Jo got canceled for participating in the group bullying of a castmate on Celebrity Big Brother UK in 2007. She was so hated after the show that she got death threats and got hit in the head with a bottle while performing at a club.

R94 Served her right. That whole Big Brother incident showed what a truly vile person she is. Along with Jade Goody (who thankfully died from cervical cancer 2 years later, sparing the world anymore of her obnoxiousness) it highlighted the problem with making ugly people famous.

by Anonymousreply 99April 10, 2023 1:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 100April 10, 2023 2:20 PM

Theories: what if they didn't want him for the reunion after all? Maybe he got his hopes up high only to find out that he wasn't included. Summarizing the thread so far, he was sometimes awkward, shy, fat, maybe an addict. Not someone you want to rely on for a tour, and not a crowd magnet. (I never heard of him or the band before. What a pity. 46 is too young to go for anyone.)

by Anonymousreply 101April 10, 2023 2:28 PM

Morbid, but I just realised three early 2000s British popstars have died within less than two years: Sarah Harding (cancer), Darius Danesh (accidental overdose) & Paul. There's also Aaron Carter over in America.

by Anonymousreply 102April 10, 2023 2:29 PM

R95 No matter how horrible that incident was, it is nothing compared to your vile post. Celebrating a young woman’s death from cancer is really low even on here, but I suspect not for you. You need praying for you vile piece of shit.

R103 You're right, I'm sorry. She of course deserved an even worse, more painful death.

by Anonymousreply 104April 10, 2023 6:48 PM

R49 It’s been years but from west I remember:

Bradley was the energetic entertainer. Always down to party. In the TV show he was the comic relief, often playing the fool.

Jon wore his heart on a sleeve with boyish charm. The show had him go on B adventures from a series of fortunate events.

Paul was the realist. Always grounded. He was default father figure of the group and would spearhead them through any shenanigans on the show. He also was lead vocals on some of their early songs.

As for the girls:

Jo was the tough, tomboyish one. TV character was cynical and met any challenge with a groan and snark. Despite her chilly exterior she was always ready to fight for her friends.

Hanna was bubbly optimistic. The show also cast her as comic relief, like Bradley, because of how naive she was about the real world.

Rachel was the sexy one with a sultry voice. Her storylines were always about dating throwaway men before dumping them by the end of the episode.

Tina was the supermodel fashionista. Always wearing the lasted styles and trends. As you can imagine they didn’t give her much of a personality. She was always down to party and was the most sociable on the show.

I was obsessed as a kid but that was so long ago. Might gotten a few things wrong.

by Anonymousreply 105April 10, 2023 7:17 PM

R105 This would've been easier:

Tina's doing her dance

Jon's looking for romance

Paul's getting down on the floor

While Hannah's screaming out for more (ooh hoo!)

Wanna see Bradley swing

Wanna see Rachel do her thing

Then we got Jo, she's got the flow

Get ready everybody 'cos here we go!

He came to fame on the original Pop Idol/Popstars show, where he auditioned, looking like an oily waiter, with a Jazzy rendition (complete with spoken word ending) of Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time." He ultimately found some success in musical theatre. He played Nicky Arnstein in the London revival of "Funny Girl."

Died of 'natural causes' according to the coroner's office so there won't be an inquest. At 46 that seems unusual to me.

[quote]A spokesperson for Dorset Coroner's Office said: "We confirm that Mr Cattermole died from natural causes and our investigations have concluded. "As his death was from natural causes there will be no inquest."

by Anonymousreply 120May 18, 2023 1:24 PM

The anti-vax crowd is crowing over that, R120.

I'm glad it wasn't suicide or an accidental OD. I thought it would turn out to be one of those two option, frankly.

by Anonymousreply 121May 18, 2023 1:47 PM

Rightfully so, r121. A 46 year old just randomly dying is concerning. What were the natural causes? We only heard about it because he was in a pop band. Is this happening more frequently now? And was he vaxed, was it with Astra or which one?

by Anonymousreply 122May 18, 2023 2:11 PM

What happened to his looks, which died a decade before him? Meds? Overeating? Whatever had happened to them, I’m not sure even getting back in shape would have revived them. It was as if his features kept growing.

by Anonymousreply 123May 18, 2023 2:15 PM

I think it's mostly the greying/white hair plus weight gain that made him look a lot older than the other band members.

by Anonymousreply 124May 18, 2023 2:20 PM

All I remember about these people is that Matthew Leitch--the bloke who played Stewart on Nickelodeon's 'Renford Rejects' and Talbert in 'Band of Brothers'--went out with Hannah Spearritt for a few years, back when they were both still sort of famous.

Honestly, I'd assumed Leitch was gay or bi-leaning gay, he comes across like a posh toff queen. He's even played gay intimacy and explicit sex on screen a couple of times. But he's actually got a kid with a woman and has only dated women.

R122, my first thought when I heard "natural causes" was that his heart gave out after years of drug use. Depressing, but quite possibly true. The fact that he couldn't afford a decent shirt for a Loose Women interview screams "addict" to me.
