God, Newhart was a great show
It's on Prime, free.
I'm re-watching it, starting with Season 2, because that's when Stephanie became a main character.
It's so stinking well-written, smart, and funny. And if I recall correctly from watching as a kid, it gets so much better once Peter Scolari becomes a regular.
And ZERO Emmys????

I enjoyed it, but The Bob Newhart Show from the 70s is even better.

It tends to pale a wee bit in comparison to the original 70s Newhart.
Also, if I remember correctly it took a few seasons to gel.
But yes, it certainly has its charms.

I loved it as a kid. Let's all cherish Bob Newhart while we can. His autobiography is really good

It picked up when 'Dick' got the talk show at the tv station, with Michael as his producer. The show where he invites people to bring the world's smallest horse to the station is a riot.

And of course the finale was the single greatest finale in television history.

I'm the security cameras that went up at The Dakota's entrance after it mattered.

Peter Scolari was so cute in his prime.

To this day I love [italic]The Bob Newhart Show[/italic] and its entire cast, main and recurring.
And to this day I HATE [italic]Newhart[/italic]...save the final episode (for obvious reasons).
Always hated Mary Frann, who reminded me of Barrie Young fellow and Bonnie Franklin--all of them always up their own asses.
But I know I'm in the minority.

Mary Frann:Mary Tyler Moore::Bonnie Bartlett:Bea Arthur.
Discuss.

Newhart himself was so underrated; he never won an Emmy until The Big Bang Theory (Guest actor).

Newhart really did get a lot better as it went along. Today it wouldn't have been given enough of a chance to build its audience.

Yes, R15.
R9, didn't the sublime Stephanie make up for Mary Frann's boring character?

r9 should wear more sweaters.

Didn't the first season have different major characters? I seem to recall someone named Kirk.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 5, 2023 8:55 PM

Yes, Kirk was a liar and it was supposed to be funny. And the was in unrequited love with a young woman who was completely perfect and therefore very boring.
Thankfully, in season two they ditched Kirk and the perfect young woman's decidedly imperfect cousin Stephanie took her place working at the inn, and the show finally blossomed.
