Do you have Botox?

Or have you had it? Tell us your experience.

Do you do regularly? How often?

Any tips for those strongly considering it? Anything to tell the practitioner?

by Anonymousreply 55May 21, 2023 2:12 AM

Well?

by Anonymousreply 2April 5, 2023 5:20 AM

I have it done on my 11’s between my brows because come from a long line of frowning people. Find a practice that uses very fine gauge needles, so the delivery can be controlled. If you keep it up regularly those muscles with atrophy and you won’t need to use as much.

by Anonymousreply 3April 5, 2023 6:34 AM

Geez, a lot of late night typo’s there OP, sorry. I get 20 units every 3 month, down from 25.

by Anonymousreply 4April 5, 2023 6:36 AM

I also do about 30 units in my forehead. I actually stopped going to my last gal and decided to let my botox lapse. Holy crap, I didn't realize how old I look without it. Be warned that you can do it, but it is possible that you could look really rough if you stop.

by Anonymousreply 5April 5, 2023 8:48 AM

I am also thinking about it and would love to hear people’s experiences. I went to a consultation with a highly regarded doctor in my area and asked her what she thought I needed. She initially answered with, “Well what bothers YOU?” And then proceeded to tell me everywhere else I probably needed it.

by Anonymousreply 6April 5, 2023 11:25 AM

I did Botox for 20 years. Forehead (the most effective), glabella, and crow's feet. It does become addictive. It's very expensive. It is cumulative. I stopped during the pandemic and have no plans to resume. Find a good, experienced doctor. Bruising is not uncommon. My sister had one eyebrow droop.

by Anonymousreply 7April 5, 2023 12:19 PM

R7 how long did one eyebrow droop?

by Anonymousreply 8April 5, 2023 8:53 PM

I have wrinkles/lines on my forehead and that's where the Dr stuck me.. I had the most angry expression. The way it lifted my eyebrows gave me an evil face! It took over 3 months to go away. Normally I greet the world with a beautiful smile. It was so fucked up I haven't tried it again.

by Anonymousreply 9April 5, 2023 9:12 PM

If Botox causes your eyebrows to arch or eye to droop its easily fixable. You just go back in and they re-inject in a slightly different area. I've always squinted horribly due to being born with poor eyesight. Everyone asked me why I was mad or sad or told me to smile. I put an end to all that with a little Botox. I only get it every 10 months to a year. Wait till the sales and the rewards programs. A little boost. Nothing wrong with making yourself feel better or less self-conscious. No one notices except they don't think I'm mad all the time. My outside matches my inside.

by Anonymousreply 10April 5, 2023 9:29 PM

Why theuck are all you people staring at me!

by Anonymousreply 11April 5, 2023 10:55 PM

How long does it take to work after you get the injections? If it’s your first time.

Asking for a friend.

by Anonymousreply 12April 13, 2023 8:56 PM

I've had it since I was 21 along several other treatments yeah, what do you need to know?

by Anonymousreply 13April 13, 2023 8:58 PM

I prefer Dysport to Botox. It lasts longer is cheaper but you need more units. I have really deep 11's and get the majority of it there and then a bit in my forehead and crows feet (which are small lines)

Looooove it and it is a huge boost to my self esteem.

by Anonymousreply 14April 13, 2023 9:01 PM

With Dysport I see the change within a few hours and it really looks fantastic after about a week.

by Anonymousreply 15April 13, 2023 9:02 PM

OP, if you can, go to a plastic surgeon - or at least a technician who is employed by a plastic surgeon - and not someone who took a few courses in botox injections. I've used botox (for furrowed brows and crowfeet) for 15 years and have never had a bad experience. In my case it lasts about 6-9 months and each treatment is around $600.

by Anonymousreply 16April 13, 2023 9:21 PM

R13, can you start with r12?

by Anonymousreply 17April 13, 2023 9:33 PM

Not since about 4 yrs ago. I’ve had Botox sessions around 5-6 times.

by Anonymousreply 18April 13, 2023 9:36 PM

Yeah, I get my glabella frown lines (and now forehead lines) done 3 times a year by an ocular plastic surgeon. I used to get it done at an aesthetic clinic that did frequent sales (Groupon type stuff) but I'm pretty sure they were diluting the Botox over time, so I went with a highly reputable source. I'm at the upper range of unit use (according to my doc), super human angry Neanderthal muscles in my brows, I guess. The surgeon at one point suggested surgery as a way to address this, but I'm sticking with Botox despite the high cost - I don't want irreversible work done if possible on my face.

by Anonymousreply 19April 13, 2023 9:37 PM

I went to a dermatologist who specialized in cosmetic procedures. Deep horizontal lines in my forehead were reduced by injections. People had commented since I was a teen, telling me to smile, things weren't [italic]that[/italic] bad. Less of that after the shots. My eyelid did not droop, but once one cocked funny. No one else seemed to care, but I could tell. It wore off after about two months. My doc had me use some painkilling cream before coming in. Don't remember the name, but it helped.

by Anonymousreply 20April 14, 2023 3:46 AM

Why are the top 10 threads all right wing troll threads and all the gay and normal posts are suppressed. This is ridiculous.

Where are the gays?

by Anonymousreply 21April 15, 2023 4:52 PM

I did it years ago and never again. I was warned that some people get the "Jack Nicholson as the Joker" look where the bridge of the eyebrows sinks a little and that happened to me. Maybe they gave me more than I needed, IDK, but I wasn't about to try it again.

At any rate I don't think men need to do that. Botox doesn't make you look younger, it makes you look Botoxed.

by Anonymousreply 22April 15, 2023 5:09 PM

I disagree R22. Botox helped make me look less angry/mad/tired by relaxing the muscles which gave me "resting bitch face". Be sure to go to a trained professional and not someone who also "specializes" in massages and facials.

by Anonymousreply 23April 15, 2023 5:39 PM

I don't understand the question and I won't respond to it.

by Anonymousreply 24April 15, 2023 5:48 PM

It works until the muscle won't work anymore, then you get concrete face like Barbara Corcoran.

by Anonymousreply 26April 15, 2023 6:13 PM

R23 This was a professional dermatologist in West Hollywood, at the time the most "reputable" clinic I could find.

by Anonymousreply 27April 15, 2023 7:07 PM
Do you have Botox?

Lemme check behind the sofa cushions.

by Anonymousreply 28April 15, 2023 7:08 PM

R12 I start to notice at about five days. Full effect at about ten.

by Anonymousreply 29April 15, 2023 7:26 PM

I used to get it but for migraines. They did like 32 at once and of course a few were bonus cosmetic, you could tell (Dr throwing you a bone). What I didn't like is that I feel some new stuff became prominent from other muscles not working, like the muscles over my eyebrows popping out more from being used. Not sure how to explain it right. Since it was medically necessary, it's likely not the same strength and you're not getting it all over your face like that though.

by Anonymousreply 30April 15, 2023 8:34 PM

Nah. So often people overdo it and look weird.

by Anonymousreply 31April 15, 2023 8:43 PM

I do, every three or four months. Have done since late 30s. Never regretted it. It’s about £140 here in UK.

by Anonymousreply 32April 15, 2023 8:53 PM

Give the money to charity. It generally makes people look terrible and/or like they are insecure about aging.

by Anonymousreply 33April 15, 2023 8:58 PM

R32, do you have any idea why it’s so much cheaper in the U.K.?

by Anonymousreply 34April 15, 2023 9:04 PM

My forehead is very lined. A cosmetic dermatologist tried to get me to have it injected and I said no.

There is something to be said for aging gracefully, and that doesn't mean that I think that no one should have any work done.

by Anonymousreply 35April 15, 2023 9:10 PM

I think, but I could be wrong, that Botox is kind of different from all other providers and fillers etc… (expect maybe dysport). I don’t think it has anywhere near the drawbacks, and the worst usually is a wonky eyebrow or a droop. It just seems in its own class. Not that huge of a deal.

by Anonymousreply 36April 16, 2023 1:33 AM

*procedures not providers

by Anonymousreply 37April 16, 2023 1:33 AM
Why are the top 10 threads all right wing troll threads

It's true for most any thread. Id say upto 15 first posts.

The right-wing tries to highjack the thread, control the narrative, and discourage the liberal majority. When normal people come on, they fade away, their mission accomplished.

Then about 30 or 40 posts in, the first racism, trans or antisemitism post starts.

by Anonymousreply 38April 16, 2023 1:33 AM

Some people have it done quite skillfully (not many, though most are on denial).

But most often, it’s readily apparent, and quite distracting. There’s a shinyness.

With one high-powered exec I worked with, when she would make certain expressions, there was a clear line of demarcation between the parts of her face that moved and those that didn’t.

by Anonymousreply 39April 16, 2023 1:54 AM

I’ve been getting it in my forehead and next to my eyes for years. It makes a nice but subtle difference. I find it lasts 6-8 months.

My advice: go to someone experienced and conservative. My doctor errs on the side of caution so her patients don’t end up looking like one of the Real Housewives. Sometimes I get a slight bruise at the injection site, sometimes not. I’ve never had any other negative side effects.

Get the whole forehead (upper and lower) done, not just the lower section. Getting Botox in just the lower forehead is what causes that weird “arch” look. An eye droop happens if you hit a particular nerve located directly above the eyebrow. Again, go to someone experienced.

Also, R3 is correct. The longer you get it the less often you need it.

by Anonymousreply 40April 16, 2023 2:21 AM

Waste of money. Made my forehead wrinkles decrease but made my eyelids seem to droop - subtle but overall effect did not make me look younger, just different and possibly cosmetically altered. The crows feet were rescued too - but again it didn’t make me look younger. Overall it was a waste - but I guess different people have different features.

For me, skin treatments like resurfacing are helpful for looks. But Botox is either cosmetically obvious - like the old women and guys I see - or not that effective - the under 40s.

by Anonymousreply 41April 16, 2023 2:55 AM

Why does Botox seem to make the skin waxy or shiny? Like plastic, it's not normal looking.

by Anonymousreply 42April 17, 2023 5:08 PM

I think it has an evolved a bit and they are able to be more precise and strategic than before. That is my my second-hand observation.

by Anonymousreply 43April 17, 2023 5:35 PM

R27, where did you go for Botox in Weho that you liked?

by Anonymousreply 44May 20, 2023 4:44 PM

R42 only on those that are overdosing.

by Anonymousreply 45May 20, 2023 4:57 PM

I haven't but I saw a vlogger on YT get it and end up with temporary bell's palsy. It was a mild case but one side of her mouth was affected for several months. That was enough to deter me from getting anything injected into my face.

by Anonymousreply 46May 20, 2023 5:01 PM

I grew up in LA and all my friends were doing it in their 20's (some who were just naturally gorgeous) as "preventative" as so many of the dermatologists have been schilling. Like most of DL, I am 42, but look younger. I have 2 forehead lines, a small furrow browed (resting bitch face that needs to cured or just an attractive face that people want to punch?). I really like my face and still feel very attractive. I am very white w/ blue eyes, so I have been slathered in sunblock since I was a child and basically leave my shades on 24/7. My question is this. I have an average chin leaning towards the weaker side and looking at my dad, I see jowls in my future. So far, I have no crows feet or lines. I am very against filler for men. What do you do about potential sag. I am fine now, but I think I will really see it at 50. Do I wait and just get a mini face life? One friend did the hooks that a are like fishing wire that is a lunchtime procedure that goes under the skin and then pulls everything back. Would botox help potential jowls? I am very fit, so it's not a question of losing weight. I really want to grow old gracefully and go natural, but I also don't want to be the only natural friend in the group. I'm dipping in more with facials, serums, tightening cremes - can I just get by with non invasive. Ryan Phillipe is really what I would like to aspire to. Looks amazing but not too surgical at 50,.

by Anonymousreply 47May 20, 2023 8:54 PM

Is it true that once you get it you can’t stop?

by Anonymousreply 48May 20, 2023 8:59 PM

That is the other thing I am worried about, R48. I've heard that once you do botox, you can't stop. Once you stop, you look more haggard and worse off than prior to the treatments. Maybe that is just that you and others get used to a tighter look and when you let if go, people really notice. One thing the pandemic taught me is that some of the most gorgeous stars, primarily women, look like everyday people if not worse without a ton of maintenance. I was shocked how unattractive Scarlett Johansson is without full glam, let alone many others.

by Anonymousreply 49May 20, 2023 9:04 PM

R48 As one uses Botox the muscles relax a bit over time, reducing required frequency of treatment. There may be psychological dependence issues though; God knows I've seen a lot of frozen horror shows out there OD'd on Botox and fillers, it has to be some kind of dysmorphia as objectively they look horrible.

As with any cosmetic procedure, I want a medical doctor vs. an 'esthetician' or whatever. And a doctor who understands restraint -- absolutely not interested in a 50 unit procedure that makes me look like a Madame Tussaud's exhibit.

Pro Tip: Pre-ice the target area whilst the doctor is loading the syringe to avoid telltale blue bruises at the injection sites.

by Anonymousreply 50May 20, 2023 9:17 PM

The one combo I hate, that I see a lot of 50 something guys is the eye lift/filler combo. The eyes look disturbingly doll like and it does give the appearance of youth, in that area, but looks disjointed with everything else. Most of the time, with rare exceptions, people really do look their age but with work done, especially 50+.

by Anonymousreply 51May 20, 2023 9:20 PM

I do not get the point. No one's looks are ruined by forehead lines and the other wrinkles it is used for. Plus the result looks a bit freakish.

If you go out much, you notice that only the botoxed hit on the botoxed.

by Anonymousreply 52May 20, 2023 10:27 PM

Men have to be so careful with all this stuff… Botox, fillers, plastic surgery, hair dye…

Often, it’s aging. In fact, it accentuates the aging… it has a cadaverous effect.

by Anonymousreply 53May 21, 2023 1:40 AM

I've been doing it for years. In the early days, they used to over inject. Now, not even women want that look.

I generally retain about 30% of movement in my forehead which means I can still somewhat see the line I don't like, but I also don't look too frozen.

by Anonymousreply 54May 21, 2023 1:50 AM

I got it a month ago in my forehead and glabella lines (the 11s between your brows). It looks pretty good, although my forehead is shiny.
