I watched part of his “documentary” about this psychiatrist who he credits for helping him so much. And it made me so uncomfortable I couldn’t watch. Hill was basically holding this man up as a miraculous guru genius, and the doctor seemed kind of bored and unfazed by this puppyish adoration. It was supposed to be about the doctor, but wound up featuring Hill taking about himself a lot. I had the impression that, since he was devoid of actual creative inspiration, Hill just decided to baldly focus on his neuroses via this “documentary”. Woody Allen at least had the courtesy of working out his neuroses in interesting films.

He comes from a hugely talented family.

There is an enormous difference between being grotesquely overly and chubby. There is an equally enormous difference between slimming down and being healthy and looking like a street person who hasn't eaten in weeks.

Back in the day there were lots of overweight men who were successful in Hollywood. Jackie Gleason, Dom Deluise, John Candy and so on. Why must everyone be thin. I mean you can't be a total load but actors can be chubby. Look at Jack Black and Mellisa McCarthy. I feel like Jonah is whiney and needs to accept his genetic predisposition to be a bit chubby. Jonah is addicted to surfing and has been for at least 3-4 years now. He's really leaning into the whole Malibu surfer look at Nobu Malibu, no less.

Surfing is hard work and I believe he could have lost the weight naturally. He's one of those people who is just better looking with some weight on him. He's like Star Jones Reynolds, their faces & heads look odd thin. I think he was a solid actor back in the day.

Also, I NEVER said he was "too skinny" - I said he looked like a street person who hasn't eaten in days which is a commentary about his overall appearance. Setting aside the unshaven beard and ratty looking clothes, you can see his face is somewhat haggard now.

I don’t know. I think there’s more going on than just surgery weight loss. He looks like he’s pulling a Joaquin Phoenix and could be very messed up emotionally. When someone voluntarily dons the homeless look it makes everyone wonder.

That being said I happen to like the guy as an actor and hope he’s ok. If he’s happy and healthy. I guess let him be but I’m not sure if it’s just an act.

He’s troubled. Someone upthread mentioned that documentary “Stutz”, and I tried to watch it. It was very uncomfortable to watch, for me. I don’t know how many adherents that therapist has, but he came off as a cult leader to me. Or maybe it’s just that Hill was worshiping him so much, that’s how it seemed. I don’t know. It seemed unhealthy to me. Maybe he’s fine.

As for his physique, I agree that he is one of those people who looks better with weight on them. It’s okay to be one of those people.

We all have a hill we will die on r76. For some reason, mine is Jonah Hill’s weight loss. I do normally totally get down with our bitchery, no idea why I have strong feelings on this one. I think it’s the idea that he felt so shitty about himself in his youth, did the hard work, still gets torn down…..it just makes me feel sorry for this lad, I can’t help it. But you are right too.
