This movie had one of the coldest lines ever:

“You should have died so we could have mourned you”

They should have made the girlfriend East Asian or Black

The girl they cast is too plain looking

Miranda Richardson was amazing in the original.

Considering she was playing the Jocasta-like mother semi-in love with her son, she wasn’t pathetic at all and stole the show away from Jeremy Irons at his erotic best, a never more icily sensual Juliette Binoche, lovely Rupert Graves and a very mysterious Ian Bannen.

Indira Varma seems like a casting no brained and Armitage should do well, but this bitch the cast as the fiancée isn’t a patch on La Binoche.

Miranda was outstanding but she was far too young for the role. She was in her early 30s and playing the mother of a man in his late 20s.

She reminds me somewhat of young Melissa Gilbert, R22. RC could do better.

Also, please no more scenes where someone puts food in another person's mouth and it's supposed to be sexy, especially not an olive that looks like it came from a bulk restaurant-supply container.

It's terrible. Anna is supposed to be a 24 year old femme fatale not a woman in her mid 30s with smoker's lines. The original with Jeremy Irons and beautiful Juliet Binoche was much better. At least you could understand why all these men were obsessed with her.

Also why is the son Jay full Indian when the mother is only faintly Indian and William is white with blue eyes?

Now I knew he would trim his pubes but I am disappointed at his overall lack of body hair.

The soft dark curls I expected to see decorating his torso are absent.

R31 I guess the acting pool for South Asian guys of the appropriate age is small.

And as it is Indira Varma is actually biracial.

Jay and his sister should not have looked more Asian than their mother! They would have had very light skin with possibly light eyes, like the guy who plays Nish in Eastenders. Also Jay and Anna's brother are supposed to look similar, and Anna definitely isn't Asian, nor is her mother.

Well people can look similar and not have the same ethnicity so that doesn’t bother me.

But the bigger problem is Anna’s casting. The actress is “acting”. If Jay is a medical student or young doctor we can put him at 25 or so, and older Anna to be 30-35. But her heavy markup in the scene at the Westminster bar was awful, made her look like she was trying too hard.

It needed an actress with a naturally darker sexuality that didn’t need to forced, a Natalie Dormer or Lea Seydoux type.

I can’t picture a man destroying it all for little Charlie Murphy.

Nor can I. Juliet Binoche was perfectly cast and only 28 at the time. Anna in the novel Damage is 24. Charlie Murphy cannot pass as 24 with those smoker's lines around her mouth.

The sister said that Anna is “older” without mentioning an age so they did away with her being 24. That would be utterly implausible with this casting.

One woman a man did throw away his 32 year old underwear model wife for was Kristen Stewart. I know she’s hated by millions but she takes roles with European eroticism; and she doesn’t need this role.

The current actress seems to be styled to look like Jessie Buckley.

The actress is laughable as the seducer.

R16 Female actresses in these type of roles HAVE to be plain looking for their plain female audiences to connect to.

It’s not as bad as the reviews are making out but a standard glossy Netflix thriller.

The sex scenes were not hot for some reason despite the actor. The main 2 didn’t have chemistry and I agree with others she was too plain.

Somehow the fiancé reminds me of Julia Davis as Jill Tyrrell from Nighty Night. The first sexy scene, when she laid down on the floor, is something Jill would do trying to be seductive.

There was an almost total lack of oral sex. Just one scene where Richard has his face smushed against the fiancée’s ass cheek.

In real life, Harvey Weinstein was married to Georgina Chapman and still he decided to be a total sex pest, harassing women at his job. Some married men are more into the power play, the chase, the danger and the forbidden that comes with cheating. In the case of the series, she's a forbidden fruit, his own son's lover. Some people, male or female, are drawn to drama and destruction like a moth to a flame.

This situation would actually appear to be a Reverse Oedipus Complex which I don’t believe is a phenomenon which actually exists. But fathers often have a subliminal desire to destroy or deny their sons their sons their rightful inheritance, usually done out of denial/fear/anger of their own death (the show Succession.)

Indira Varma is 49 - of course the husband wants someone younger.

The new girl is not hot and appears to be in her mid 30s.
