Catfish is so fake they should change the name to Tilapia.

It has a reputation of being a legit show, though I’m sure there’s a lot of producer-level contacts behind the scenes so they don’t send a whole crew across the country for a red herring. That doesn’t mean the people on the show are fully legit. Drag Queen and friend may have set them up. The producers may have even been suspicious, but unable to resist the lure of a brave trans woman.

I don't think the producers create fake scenarios but some of the people who appear on the show do. And I remember one episode where they were exposed as fake. Nev is a cute, skinny Jewish man and they're usually mistaken for gay.

r8 drag queen refers to doing a feminine act while drag king to a masculine act... usually done by gay men or lesbians respectively, lest they become impersonators or some other category, but there have long been male drag kings and female drag queens.

r7 Well she is a total liar because they long ago exposed Catfish and how it works. While the people are real (sometimes) and the situations are real (sometimes) they actually contact the people ahead of time, the Catfish and the catfisher. They want to be sure they will appear on air and have to get releases signed. Sham is just that, a sham. She knew they were coming, she knew she was going to be on the show. She knew they had found her catfish and he was not who he said he was. They may have hidden that he was her former bff but that whole story was so made up I doubt it was real. Not to mention they followed up with both Sham and Mike a month or so after and Sham was all sweetness and light. "LOVE YOU GUYS...SO MUCH" said Sham as she zoom chatted with Neve and Kammie. She claimed this hot arab guy who was "royalty" was in love with her and could not meet up because he was royalty. It took about 2 seconds of a google image search to see the guy was not who he said he was. There is no way she was that fucking stupid as not to even do a brief image search or buy the I am a Arabian prince BS line. She wanted to be on TV and wanted a free trip to see her BFF. It was all made up.

Those shows are absolutely faked. I recall all the stupid shows on MTV like "Cribs" where these young celebs were bragging about touring their mansions and their luxury cars - turns out they didn't even live in those houses, all that shit was rented for the show.
