Any ideas why no dramas (no shows, limited series or movies I know of) have been made based on JFK jr and Caroline Bissette?

Unless I'm totally missing things other than documentaries that cover his basic PR image, and his volatile marriage is touched on, but rarely with any clear toxicity being addressed.

I was young when he died, but I now find his and Bissettes relationship intriguing, in addition to the things he 'wasn't allowed to do ' according to his totally controlling mother. I'd totally watch a movie or better a well done series on this topic.

Is it because his sister is still alive? Anyone ever see anything 'unofficially ' or loosely based on his later/last years?

by Anonymousreply 72April 4, 2023 11:14 AM

Who would play John-John?

by Anonymousreply 1March 30, 2023 2:52 AM

Unlikeable characters. Also white people are out in Hollywood as part of the illuminati agenda.

by Anonymousreply 2March 30, 2023 2:59 AM

Austin Butler could play him. The audience would enjoy the anticipation of his death.

by Anonymousreply 3March 30, 2023 3:06 AM

Because it would be boring and I relatable.

by Anonymousreply 4March 30, 2023 3:17 AM

Because the matching nail polish scene tested like watching paint dry. And then die.

by Anonymousreply 5March 30, 2023 3:19 AM

There's nothing interesting about them.

by Anonymousreply 6March 30, 2023 3:29 AM

There has been a movie.

by Anonymousreply 7March 30, 2023 3:33 AM

Maybe because he was never with a Caroline Bissette. But he was with CAROLYN BESSETTE.

by Anonymousreply 8March 30, 2023 3:36 AM

In reading through some DL threads on the two after seeing a bitchy celeb encounter post, but their public fight couldn't have been a one-off. There was also addiction definitely with Bissette and probably Jr. Then there was his interest in the arts, and less than deans list college years followed up by relationships with singers, performers, and actresses *shudder*! Plus the over bearing mother having been, ostensibly, the countrys mother. There's a lot of content with great entertainment potential.

The only campy movie involved his parents, why no House of Yes for Jr?

There's atleast a 6 episode series there. But there's nothing, which, today, somewhat understandable, but there wasn't ever anything done about him, which is kind of surprising given his epic popularity.

by Anonymousreply 9March 30, 2023 3:39 AM

R7 Thank you!

by Anonymousreply 10March 30, 2023 3:39 AM

She was probably a total cunt to him as the plane was going down if nothing else.

by Anonymousreply 11March 30, 2023 3:40 AM

There will be eventually. The biggest problem is that too many people associated with their story are private people who would sue if they didn't like how they were portrayed, particularly members of the Bessette family.

Also: even though gay men were obsessed with John-John, he never held public office. His celebrity was only because he was the only son of two famous people, not because of anything he himself ever did, so the audience would likely be a bit limited. And he's been dead for more than 20 years. He is not a powerful imaginative figure for Zoomers or Millennials the way he is for Boomers. and some Xers

by Anonymousreply 12March 30, 2023 3:49 AM

It would be hard to make a movie about a stunningly beautiful, rich heir to an American dynasty who seemingly had no real character flaws besides being too nice and lacking common sense. Jr never had to work hard or overcome any obstacles and got everything handed to him. There is no real conflict here. Yeah he may have did drugs and had a few gay encounters but that's hardly scandalous. Carolyn isn't interesting either, she was a social climber who was high-strung, abusive and homophobic. There isn't any sympathy to be gained from this story. Jr killed himself and two people with his stupidity and beauty and rich privilege. Maybe a dark comedy with satire could work with this absurdity but that would be in bad taste to the Kennedy fans.

by Anonymousreply 13March 30, 2023 3:52 AM

R12 Apparently younger women have discovered Bessette in recent years and she's beloved among fashion forward types on blogs and tiktok.

by Anonymousreply 14March 30, 2023 4:18 AM

You're welcome, OP. I only remembered because Portia de Rossi was in it and at the time I thought, while Portia is lovely, she looked NOTHING like Carolyn Bessette.

by Anonymousreply 15March 30, 2023 4:19 AM

[quote] It would be hard to make a movie about a stunningly beautiful, rich heir to an American dynasty who seemingly had no real character flaws besides being too nice and lacking common sense.

"Lacking common sense?" John John was DUMB. No kidding, he was not very intelligent. He was gorgeous but there was not much more to him than that. He should have pursued a career as a model. Supposedly he wanted to be an actor, but Jackie nixed that idea. Or he could have gone into politics; you don't need brains for that and he would have won any election easily. But he remained directionless for his entire life.

by Anonymousreply 16March 30, 2023 4:27 AM

R15 I remember a scene where JFK Jr. calls Carolyn "short" and finding it ridiculous because she was famously very tall.

by Anonymousreply 17March 30, 2023 4:34 AM

I occasionally think about how Carolyn and Lauren's mom handled losing two of her children in this accident. So sad.

by Anonymousreply 18March 30, 2023 4:34 AM

People are sick of the Kennedy drama. Americans are no longer interested like they are with the British Royal Family.

by Anonymousreply 19March 30, 2023 4:55 AM

[quote] Jr never had to work hard or overcome any obstacles and got everything handed to him.

I think he failed the NY bar exam a couple of times. He finally passed but was not successful as a lawyer. It’s finally why he went to publishing a magazine

by Anonymousreply 20March 30, 2023 4:59 AM

Who will be cast as Christiane Amanpour, the only woman who Jr never slept with? But being his roommate, I bet she kept count of who was going through that bed.

by Anonymousreply 21March 30, 2023 5:01 AM

I don’t think there’s a story. They were a boring affluent couple with emotional issues. They really didn’t have anything working against them that would make a plot.

by Anonymousreply 22March 30, 2023 5:02 AM

R20 He did fail twice. I waited on him a few times at Barney’s. He was very boring/straight but nice to look at. A certain demographic of women became glassy eyed and almost manic at the mere mention of his name back then.

by Anonymousreply 23March 30, 2023 5:07 AM

Jackie was working against them. She hated all of Jr’s girlfriends.

by Anonymousreply 24March 30, 2023 5:07 AM

R24 Jackie was dead before John hooked up with Carolyn.

by Anonymousreply 25March 30, 2023 5:11 AM

R7 So Jackie Bisset played Jackie O twice. Although The Greek Tycoon used pseudonyms.

by Anonymousreply 26March 30, 2023 5:12 AM

Might be a problem since Qtards think he mangled his face and is now a 67 year old chinless man from Pennsylvania and will reign supreme over America as the orange idiot's sidekick.

But, seriously. He wasn't really a historical figure, he was a bit of a footnote. Handsome, memorable for saluting his assassinated dad as a young boy, founded a magazine, died tragically but I don't feel like there's enough there to make a series of.

by Anonymousreply 27March 30, 2023 9:23 AM

The real reason there hasn't been a (bigger) movie is that producers feared reprisals from DLers, angry that the actor cast to play JFK Jr. wasn't good-looking enough.

by Anonymousreply 28March 30, 2023 10:35 AM

R28 I heard Jonathan Majors was in the running for the role of adolescent to adult John-John.

by Anonymousreply 29March 30, 2023 10:52 AM

He was like Prince Harry. Reasonably appealing but dumb as a box of rocks. He only eventually passed the bar because he got extra time and a private room to take it. But he had a disciplined mom to keep him from going off the rails.

Jackie/Lee and Kate/Pippa are another interesting parallel.

by Anonymousreply 30March 30, 2023 10:59 AM

Yes, there was. The fighting scene was quite nasty too.

R13, you and I have wildly different definitions of interesting. At a minimum we'd have another camp classic on our hands. I'd even back Dunaway as Carolyn.

John John, bring me the Cessna!

by Anonymousreply 32March 30, 2023 12:22 PM

He wasn't entirely stupid. He founded that magazine... that takes some imagination and vision (not saying he did it singlehandedly.) It would, in the right hands, be an interesting study of someone with every advantage who was some combination of being unable and uninterested in living up to everybody else's fantasies. From all we know it seems he was a fairly decent guy. Maybe there was some humility there... some self-knowledge that I am not the prince everyone wants me to be. Throw in a shrew wife with killer nail polish and I think, again with the right writer, you've got something.

So long as there's butt shots in the bedroom scenes.

R13 made a great case.

If he/she is a lawyer, I bet he/she nailed the bar in one try.

(That was a cheap shot. I'm better than that.)

by Anonymousreply 37March 30, 2023 1:47 PM

R30 I hardly think JFK Jr was as dumb as Harry. Harry required assistance to pass art in what was basically a private high school. JFK Jr. graduated from Brown University and New York University School of Law.

by Anonymousreply 38March 30, 2023 11:44 PM

Good point, R38, and Harry's looks are not remotely comparable to JFK Jr.'s either. I've read many stories of people who encountered JFK Jr. being stopped in their tracks by his good looks before they even realized who he was. Harry's tall with a good figure (at one point, anyway) and... that's about it.

by Anonymousreply 39March 30, 2023 11:51 PM

He was pretty stupid.

by Anonymousreply 41March 30, 2023 11:53 PM

I never found him even slightly interesting.

He achieved nothing other than to produce a vanity magazine that was never considered intelligent and that was never a success.

I think it's ridiculous to think he ever would have made it as a politician, and he never even tried.

by Anonymousreply 42March 31, 2023 12:00 AM

[quote]He was like Prince Harry.

John, sweetie, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry that a ugly ass bitch like this would even say that. Oh my god. Oh my god. Are you fucking insane?

by Anonymousreply 43March 31, 2023 12:53 AM

It's a question that is only asked because of peak streaming and endless content. Back in the day, not everything was turned into a movie or limited series.

Second, it would be tasteless. So many of the details about them and their marriage turned out to be kind of sad and ugly. What would be the purpose of creating content based on that? Might be a different situation if they had done amazing things and were awesome humans and that got cut short. But they weren't. They were just fucked up rich unhappy New Yorkers who had huge personality flaws without actions in life that were particularly interesting or memorable.

by Anonymousreply 44March 31, 2023 1:30 AM

Hello?! Educate yourself, OP.

by Anonymousreply 45March 31, 2023 2:02 AM

Bessette Kennedy's surviving family (mom, father, stepfather and sister) have never given more than a brief statement asking for privacy. They have never done any interviews and haven't been seen in public since the funeral services. They only ('only') got $15MM from the JFK Jr. estate. I would've taken at least half of his $100MM estate, personally. Ann Freeman lost two daughters because of that reckless idiot. Hell, go for all of his money.

by Anonymousreply 46March 31, 2023 2:04 AM

The only interesting thing about jfk jr was his inability to be interesting.

by Anonymousreply 47March 31, 2023 2:39 AM

I guess a deconstruction and satire could work portraying Jr. as someone who can't fulfill the ridiculously high expectations the public placed on him. And having a mercenary tiger mom like Jackie micromanaging him and yes-men in his adulthood depriving him of the ability to learn good judgment and common sense. And also being pressured to marry for his image and choosing an abusive, hyper-ambitious shrew like CBK. Ultimately painting him as a tragic figure who failed in many avenues (law, publishing, flying a plane, his marriage etc) despite all his opportunities. The issue is it would paint a lot of the Kennedys (including Jackie) and that rich elite circle in a negative light (not that there hasn't been series or movies that did this already).

by Anonymousreply 48March 31, 2023 2:51 AM

[quote] JFK Jr. graduated from Brown University

Brown is where Hollywood sends their children to get an Ivy League degree without having to do Ivy League work. You don’t need brains to go there, just connections and money.

by Anonymousreply 49March 31, 2023 3:17 AM

R49 He also obtained a law degree from New York University.

Is anyone suggesting that Harry could have obtained a law degree from NYU?

by Anonymousreply 50March 31, 2023 3:37 AM

Harry could have obtained a law degree from clown college.

by Anonymousreply 51March 31, 2023 4:09 AM

The Kennedy Family is like he Irish-Catholic political version of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy’s. You wouldn’t and won’t see ANYTHING filmed about them until and unless every last immediate next-of-kin is long gone—and, maybe, still then some—under the pains of facing likely some pretty serious litigation.

by Anonymousreply 52March 31, 2023 4:24 AM

[quote] Jackie was working against them. She hated all of Jr’s girlfriends.

I can understand why. His girlfriends included Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna and Daryl Hannah. She wouldn't have approved of Carolyn, either. She was a fashionista, nothing more. I think Jackie would have liked to have seen him marry an accomplished, educated young woman who had the strength to endure being the wife of John Kennedy Jr., the Prince of Camelot. But he didn't go for that type, obviously. He and Carolyn, who were supposed to have been this epic love story, will certainly have divorced eventually. That marriage was not destined to last.

by Anonymousreply 53March 31, 2023 4:33 AM

[quote]Harry required assistance to pass art in what was basically a private high school.

Ok, not to defend Harry, and high school are and college art are different entities.

But in college I wanted to take a photography class because it had a dark room and I had done some photography and dark room developing in Jr high. In order to tale photography though, you had to take a pre-req: intro to drawing.

I knew I wasn't a good drawer, but I signed up. First assignment was to just color a sheet in a gradient from darkest black to white, top to bottom. I got a D. 😳

Second assignment was to sketch a cube, a cylinder, and a ball on a pedestal. The professor asked me to step outside and handed my assignment back. F. He suggested I drop the class.

I was going to fail fucking INTRO to drawing. And I was trying! I really was. I was just terrible and didn't realize that the class was intended to weed out the non-art majors. I can't even say the instructor was a dick!! He was very nice while telling me I was going to fail his class!!

Ummmmm R52, there have been like 1,445,968 plays, mini series and feature films made about the Kennedy family. Many of them made during the height of their fame and are not flattering portraits. Anyone remember that Reelz mini series in which Greg Kinnear played JFK, Barry Pepper played Bobby and Katie Holmes played Jackie? Allegedly, Caroline and Maria tried to stop the series from happening but were unsuccessful. Barry Pepper won an Emmy for his performance.

There was also a recent feature film about the infamous Chappaquiddick tragedy with Kate Mara playing Mary Jo Kopechne.

Like someone mentioned upthread, the fascination with John and Caroline has faded with time. I'm Gen X and I remember the the beauty and aura of JFK Jr, but there are now like three generations of younger adults who have no idea what all the fuss is about. I'm not sure a film about Junior would draw that large of an audience of people under the age of 40.

by Anonymousreply 58March 31, 2023 7:21 AM
