His tale is a tragic one. Didn't he end up in a car wreck that forever disabled his best friend? Don't think he ever forgave himself and probably did drugs as a result. For awhile I don't think he could face his actions and ghosted his friend for a time before that was a thing. They finally had resolution on some reality show.

He drove while drunk / high, crashed, and his friend (passenger) ended up in a wheel chair.

He looks horrible, now.

I saw his meeting with his disabled friend on the reality show. I wouldn’t say anything’s resolved.

I don’t think he’s sober. I wouldn’t be surprised if he died soon.

His rise and fall was always fascinating to me, after watching the VH1 BTM in the late 90s. He is the definition of a “flash in the pan” celebrity. He became huge overnight and faded quickly. He managed to get some longevity from reality tv. He seems like a legitimately nice guy though.

^That "reunion" with the disabled friend was on his "Behind the Music" episode.

It could not have been more phony, and was strictly for the cameras. He reportedly never talked to the friend after the accident until the TV episode, and then never talked to him again afterwards. The friend, Roland Winkler, died a few years ago, due to the medical issues that come with spending your whole life confined to a wheelchair.

Yet Leif Garrett, like Keanu Reeves, lives on!

I believe it. So many similar stories about Finch and KC's dynamic, god they seemed insufferable back in the day. Finch, the chicken hawk letch and KC the long-suffering codependent. He only knew the guy he was in the accident with for like a month. I guess I remembered it wrong from the behind the music special but I thought they have been close lifelong friends before the accident.

Leif was a decent actor and had he stuck to that I think he would’ve had a solid career. He was good as the creep in the outsiders.
