Todd Field Says it is “Highly Likely” That ‘Tár’ Was His Final Film

What a shame. At least he gave us one final masterpiece but I don't blame him when his 3 movies have netted more than a dozen Oscar nominations but have never won even a single Oscar.

Does he do anything besides direct cause it sounds like he doesn't work very much and now he doesn't want to work again? Does he come from money or can he live off the minimal amount that his artsy films make?

Apparently he made a lot of money early on from inventing a form of chewing gum so he's loaded.

Field co-created a brand of bubble gum called Big League Chew when he was 15, but did not receive any royalties from that. So definitely not pre-loaded.

Never knew he partnered with Jim Bouton! Thanks r3. Love Bouton, he wrote the best baseball book ever.

these are only the projects we know about. Probably more we don't. Including uncredited gigs he took to rewrite scripts going into production. If he needed money, he could have always been a candidate for those jobs.

He would have earned some money off some of these projects if drafts were written while he was attached to direct, especially when he had a first look deal at Dreamworks.

He should direct because he makes great films, and all three films he has made are great.

I'm so tired of people making movies to win Oscars.

I'm not saying he may retire because he doesn't have an Oscar but he should continue making films because he is an artist whose work is highly respected.

He has always seemed way too thin skinned for the industry he was in. His inflated sense of his own “genius” doesn’t help.

He's one of the few directors who has good parts for women. All 3 of his leading ladies got Oscar nominations.

Good. It was an unwatchable piece of shit with an embarrassingly bad script that nearly ruined Cate Blanchett’s career.

The money from Twister is sufficient.

R9, Todd and Cate's hubris on Tar made it insufferable.

Looking back, it's cringeworthy thinking that they did a Tar concept album and that Cate "conducted" at Abbey Road.
