Neither Russia nor the U.S. recognize the authority of the ICC. While there is little doubt that Putin has authorized a number of different war crimes, the arrest warrant, unfortunately, means nothing other than political points.

Thinking about it there is also the issue of diplomatic immunity.

Even if it just erodes his support a bit more in Russia, it's a step in the right direction. Things are winding down for both. They can't last forever. My intuition still tells me Trump won't make it to 2024, but I also think Putin's time is very limited. Unfortunately, he is unlikely to be held accountable in any meaningful way in this lifetime.
