Arrest warrant issued for Putin

By the International Criminal Court. Will he just ride it out in his bunker?

I recall a propaganda host saying on her TV show last year that if they lose this war, everyone will go to the Hague, including the janitor who sweeps behind the Kremlin. It was a rare moment of honesty that showed they're freaked out by the prospect of both losing and being tried for war crimes.

by Anonymousreply 1March 17, 2023 3:52 PM

At the very least the international community of toxicology should put him in the slammer and throw away the key.

by Anonymousreply 2March 17, 2023 4:02 PM

Xi Jinping is supposed to visit him in Moscow next week. Won't that be a little awkward?

by Anonymousreply 3March 17, 2023 4:12 PM

[quote]Mr Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, born on 7 October 1952, President of the Russian Federation, is allegedly responsible for the war crime of unlawful deportation of population (children) and that of unlawful transfer of population (children) from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation (under articles 8(2)(a)(vii) and 8(2)(b)(viii) of the Rome Statute).

I'm sorry but Lvova-Belova is a fabulous last name.

by Anonymousreply 5March 17, 2023 4:20 PM

Youโ€™re not sorry. Youโ€™re not sorry one bit.

by Anonymousreply 6March 17, 2023 5:45 PM

delish!

by Anonymousreply 7March 17, 2023 6:56 PM

this will only enrage him and escalate the conflict

by Anonymousreply 8March 17, 2023 7:21 PM

R8 = MTG (or maybe one of the troika of vatniks: Glenn, Tulsi or Matt Taibbi)

by Anonymousreply 9March 17, 2023 7:31 PM

Who's gonna check him, Boo?

by Anonymousreply 10March 17, 2023 7:36 PM

I don't want to insinuate anything but it is funny that mrs. Lvova-Belova has adopted 15 years old Ukrainian boy.

by Anonymousreply 11March 17, 2023 7:37 PM

R9, IT'S THE LEFT THAT WANTS MORE CONFLICT

by Anonymousreply 12March 17, 2023 7:39 PM

[quote] Who's gonna check him, Boo?

Nobody is under any illusion that he'll be arrested, at least not until there's a major political change in Russia. He doesn't really travel internationally anymore, maybe Belarus China, or Iran, where he would be safe. But, the nice thing is that he'll be like Pinochet: cornered inside his little gulag. If he needs medical treatments for, say, cancer in the West, he won't be able to go to some place like Switzerland even well after the conflict has ended, should he live that long.

by Anonymousreply 13March 17, 2023 7:42 PM

R13 Russia has very good doctors and hospitals, he wouldn't need to go to the west. Medicine was, besides space programme and military industry, one the rare fields in which Soviet union excelled.

by Anonymousreply 14March 17, 2023 7:52 PM

Yes, like their COVID vaccine

by Anonymousreply 15March 17, 2023 7:53 PM

Their Covid vaccine had less side effects than the ones that were distributed on west. It was banned for political reasons.

by Anonymousreply 16March 17, 2023 7:55 PM

Nice try, R16. You get the potato from the "substandard" bin. When does your shift at the Krasnoyarsk Aluminum Siding Factory No.2 start?

by Anonymousreply 17March 17, 2023 8:00 PM

What a futile gesture

by Anonymousreply 18March 17, 2023 8:03 PM

R16- I'm sure it did have less side effects. It no effect at all.

by Anonymousreply 19March 17, 2023 8:05 PM

"Fewer Side Effects = they ain't got a vaccine. China does not have an effective vaccine either.

by Anonymousreply 20March 17, 2023 8:17 PM

he's a cunt

by Anonymousreply 21March 17, 2023 8:19 PM

He's on a yacht in the Mediterranean or in a real first world country like Switzerland

by Anonymousreply 22March 17, 2023 8:19 PM

Are you a Nigerian prince, R22? With an interesting business proposition?

by Anonymousreply 23March 17, 2023 8:21 PM

Yup.

by Anonymousreply 24March 17, 2023 8:22 PM

R20 Nobody had an effective vaccine against covid.

That warrant alone won't do it. If we all chip in how much bounty is needed for his security guards to pack him up and drop him in The Hague?

by Anonymousreply 29March 17, 2023 9:03 PM

How paranoid do you think he is right now?

by Anonymousreply 30March 17, 2023 9:11 PM

It must be said that there are Russians who are exposing themselves to help returning kidnapped children to Ukraine.

If Putin doesn't surrender by 9:00 am, Monday March 2023, we will hand deliver the arrest warrant, and deliver him to the FBI.

by Anonymousreply 32March 18, 2023 4:20 AM

well at least Someone is Doing something

by Anonymousreply 33March 18, 2023 4:27 AM

Anyone else find it a bit ironic that trump may actually be indicated tomorrow and Putin was charged with war crimes today?

by Anonymousreply 34March 18, 2023 4:28 AM

How many divisions has the International Criminal Court?

by Anonymousreply 35March 18, 2023 5:15 AM

I wonder if there is enough resentment against Putin in Russia, among the oligarchs and members of the Duma to stage a coup, capture him and deliver him to The Hague.

The decision to go to war apparently was made by a few people around Putin. And Russia has maneuvered itself into a Pariah state status since then.

Isn't Xi visiting Zelenskyy soon? With the news that China is now delivering weapons to Russia to be used against Ukraine, I wonder if Zelenskyy cancels the meeting or at leacondemns Xi publicly for that move.

by Anonymousreply 36March 18, 2023 6:17 AM

Neither Russia nor the U.S. recognize the authority of the ICC. While there is little doubt that Putin has authorized a number of different war crimes, the arrest warrant, unfortunately, means nothing other than political points.

by Anonymousreply 37March 18, 2023 6:52 AM

Thinking about it there is also the issue of diplomatic immunity.

by Anonymousreply 39March 18, 2023 8:28 AM

R3 that's why they made the announcement today. It's all political BS as usual. US wants war with China and will use their meeting to justify more arms deals.

by Anonymousreply 40March 18, 2023 8:32 AM

Even if it just erodes his support a bit more in Russia, it's a step in the right direction. The truly brainwashed won't change their minds, but there are a lot of "apolitical" types who just want to pretend everything is normal and go on living their lives. But normal presidents don't usually have arrest warrants for crimes against children.

by Anonymousreply 41March 18, 2023 9:09 AM

Nothing will happen to him.

by Anonymousreply 42March 18, 2023 9:11 AM

[quote] but there are a lot of "apolitical" types who just want to pretend everything is normal and go on living their lives.

If anything this will push the "apolitical" Russians towards Putin's camp.

Putin will die in his bunker, like Hitler did.

Whether it's suicide or murder will be up to the historians to figure out.

Little vatnik/tankie trolls, swarming like flies on shit but not fooling anyone.

by Anonymousreply 49March 18, 2023 12:16 PM

It doesn't matter that Russia doesn't recognize the ICC. If Putin travels internationally any nation state can detain him and turn him over.

Normally I would say sure, but who has the balls to do so?

The Italians do it would seem. They seized his super yacht last year.

Putin's partner and youngest children live in Ticino, the Italian speaking part of Switzerland. It would be delightful to see the Swiss swoop in on him there and we would learn about it only after Putin was behind bars in the Hague.

A perp walk would be a delicious sight to show autocrats they can't get away with...what they in reality obviously *can* get away with.

Since we will never see that, it is at least satisfying to know that Trump and Putin have poopy pants in common, and Putin fell down the stairs recently, just as Trump's First Hole ex-wife did.

Things are winding down for both. They can't last forever. My intuition still tells me Trump won't make it to 2024, but I also think Putin's time is very limited. Unfortunately, he is unlikely to be held accountable in any meaningful way in this lifetime.
