WTF
Anne Heche omitted from Oscar "In Memoriam" segment
by Anonymous | reply 145 | March 15, 2023 3:28 AM |
O shit. She sure was. Wtf. She was pretty dam low end A list. Wow. That is weird.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 13, 2023 4:22 AM |
He he
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 13, 2023 4:27 AM |
This is really rather appalling. Anne worked for years and was in some high profile shit. That is a glaring mistake not to include her. And she’s lesbian.
I even had to double check to see if she died last March.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 13, 2023 4:37 AM |
The LATE Anne Hehe 🚗
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 13, 2023 5:06 AM |
They skipped Melinda Dillon, too. She had two Oscar nominations and was in two incredibly popular movies - Close Encounters and A Christmas Story. She deserved a mention more than Anne He he.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 13, 2023 5:14 AM |
So how the fuck did Irene Cara get included.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 13, 2023 5:28 AM |
Never mind she does actually have an Oscar.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 13, 2023 5:30 AM |
[quote] Anne … was in some high profile shit.
And she made it more so.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 13, 2023 5:30 AM |
And someone else says—
[quote] she's always been a hot shit.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 13, 2023 5:45 AM |
I was surprised that they skipped Charlbi Dean when she was one of the stars of a BP nominee this year.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 13, 2023 6:06 AM |
Anne Heche would go in a burst of flames.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 13, 2023 6:09 AM |
The Daytime Emmys SHOULD do something for her; the woman was electric as Vicky/Marley.
But...they need to make it a CBS show....
I predict GH will clean up most everything; Maurice, Maura, Finola, show, writing, directing, Chavez; Linda Purl for guest.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 13, 2023 6:09 AM |
Anne co-starred with Harrison Ford who presented best picture. That’s more than enough to include her.
Was this Ellen’s doing?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 13, 2023 7:10 AM |
She co-starred in many high profile movies + tragic nature of her death = she should have been included easily. Even crazier that a two time Oscar nominee (Melinda Dillon) was left off. I would think all acting nominees would get automatic inclusion. Are they gonna leave Teri Garr out when she dies, too?
Also, I hate that they didn’t do clips for the vast majority of them. People want to see a clip even if it just flashes by really quickly. SAG did it right.
Paul Sorvino…I feel like a lot of people were left out. And James Caan should have had the last spot.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 13, 2023 7:36 AM |
No Anne Heche or Melinda Dillon but no problem featuring Nichelle Nichols, who was primarily a TV actress best known or playing 'Uhura' in the '60s STAR TREK.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 13, 2023 8:58 AM |
The omissions of Paul Sorvino, Anne Heche, Marsha Hunt, Stella Stevens, Melinda Dillon, Yvette Mimieux, Clu Gulager, and Charlbi Dean were shocking to me. Topol too, but he may have been too late. Sizemore and Blake were never going to be included but probably should have been.
Sorvino, Stevens and Gulager were Hollywood staples, everyone knew them, I can't figure out how they got iced out.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 13, 2023 9:08 AM |
R15, what a "coincidence" that of all the unknowns that were included last night in that segment, that the African-American Nichelle Nichols was the one that REALLY burned your biscuits. Just her. Nobody else. Hmmm.......
FYI, The Star Trek series extended past television and spawned several hit feature films that included Nichelle Nichols. Miss Nichols also had a memorable turn with Isaac Hayes in the Blaxplotation film, "Truck Turner".
Anne Heche & Melinda Dillion ABSOLUTELY should have been included in the memorial segment last night. Their exclusion is about as odd as you zeroing in on the one Black TV and FILM actress that was included. Your robe's showing underneath your skirt....
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 13, 2023 9:39 AM |
It's Anne He He not Heche.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 13, 2023 9:42 AM |
I just want to know who’s head is going to roll over these omissions. There are quite a few. How hard is it to keep track?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 13, 2023 9:43 AM |
No one's head ever rolls after major omissions in the In Memoriam. At this point, it happens so frequently that I assume they do it on purpose.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 13, 2023 9:44 AM |
They did have a QR code at the end that you could scan to see everyone who didn't merit a mention.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 13, 2023 9:50 AM |
Every year with this shit. Who compiles the list, The Darfur Orphan?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 13, 2023 10:03 AM |
I’m sure they shoehorned in poc.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 13, 2023 10:09 AM |
Maybe it was because how she died was somewhat controversial? She was driving at like 90mph and drove into someone’s house. It’s lucky she didn’t hurt or kill anyone.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 13, 2023 10:45 AM |
R24 they have no problem honoring drug addicts though
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 13, 2023 11:05 AM |
Anne Heche wasn’t a gifted anything. She was noticeable riding Ellens’ coattails/strap-on, but contributed nothing to entertainment after that. Quit trying to make her into something outstanding. You never even heard of her giving back to a community anywhere in any way. Was she of good character serving at a soup kitchen or something? No. She’s just another statistic for high speed collisions.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 13, 2023 11:14 AM |
Good! The bitch didn’t deserve a mention. She could have killed innocent people the day she fried herself. Stupid selfish cunt! Fuck off Anne!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 13, 2023 11:31 AM |
They include Kirstie Alley, who was known primarily as a tv actress, and exclude Anne Heche, who was in several high profile films. These In Memoriams are so weird.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 13, 2023 11:42 AM |
[quote]Maybe it was because how she died was somewhat controversial? She was driving at like 90mph and drove into someone’s house. It’s lucky she didn’t hurt or kill anyone.
Yes, I think Heche, Sizemore and Blake were omitted because of their crimes - convicted or not, it's not a good look.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 13, 2023 12:04 PM |
Two time nominee not being included is egregious.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 13, 2023 12:12 PM |
Yvette Mimeux? She was a starlet decades ago. Stella Stevens was a starlet who briefly had a career decades ago. Heche became an embarrassment, ignoring her was easy.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 13, 2023 12:19 PM |
Melinda Dillion was excluded for that bad perm in A Christmas Story.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 13, 2023 12:24 PM |
This year's In Memoriam seemed like someone just picked names of random dead celebrities out of a hat and said, "These are the ones we'll commemorate."
None of it made any sense.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 13, 2023 12:28 PM |
I’m with those upthread—someone was asleep at the wheel, Melinda Dillon absolutely should have been there. Did they totally overlook her? Or is she in the “leftovers” group. I also think Yvette Mimieux and Stella Stevens should have been in there. The fact that they were active years ago should never enter into it.. Especially if someone like Kirstie Alley made it in. They were both very high profile actresses in the business.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 13, 2023 12:29 PM |
Was Will Smith's career in the "In Memoriam" segment or was that omitted as well?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 13, 2023 1:04 PM |
Anne who?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 13, 2023 1:35 PM |

Guess we will know for sure when Harvey kicks the bucket R29.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 13, 2023 1:40 PM |
Anne Heche was primarily a soap actress on a little watched soap. Did the lovely and 100x more cherished Kathryn Hays get a tribute?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 13, 2023 1:48 PM |
I was shocked Paul Sorvino was excluded. I get Anne Heche for the reasons others have stated.
Clearly this is incompetence. There would be no reason to exclude him or several others mentioned. Yet another reason to skip this bullshit show permanently.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 13, 2023 2:22 PM |
[quote]Guess we will know for sure when Harvey kicks the bucket [R29].
Hey! Don't forget me!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 13, 2023 2:22 PM |
Anne Heche put so many lives in danger on the day she fried herself. Thank GOD that she only hurt herself. And it’s not like she was a big movie actress anyway. She didn’t deserve a mention. The academy got that one right.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 13, 2023 2:30 PM |
R39 especially since Ray Liotta also does this year. It’s a disrespect to Goodfellas more than anything. He was also in REDS if I recall correctly.
Good sized parts in iconic movies should really be an automatic in. Cindy Williams probably also belonged in there for that reason alone.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 13, 2023 2:47 PM |
Died this year*, sheesh
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 13, 2023 2:47 PM |
STOP FOCUSING ON THE LIVE PERFORMER. This whole section was terrible (again) since they didn't learn anything from last year!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 13, 2023 2:55 PM |
Get used to it. Every awards show's In Memoriam focuses on the performers rather than respect the dead.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 13, 2023 3:08 PM |
I think whoever puts these things together is some 22-year old woke kid who doesn’t know who any of the old dead white people are, and can’t leave out anyone who’s melanated.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 13, 2023 3:10 PM |
Why was there a musical tribute to Chadwick Boseman who died three years ago?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 13, 2023 3:13 PM |
R48 The song was nominated for an Oscar, so it wasn't technically a musical tribute to Boseman.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 13, 2023 3:18 PM |
Can anyone provide insight as to why a name like Anne would be omitted. It defies logic.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 13, 2023 3:19 PM |
Somebody gonna be in big ass trouble on Monday morning.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 13, 2023 3:19 PM |
R48 that song was nominated for best original song from the film Wakanda. However it was also a tribute to him as he tragically died and could not lead the sequel.
The tribute song was one of all the best original song nominees performed.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 13, 2023 3:21 PM |
R14 It's unclear what the criteria are for inclusion - one would think that being a Oscar nominee would make inclusion automatic. A couple years ago they ignored Sondra Locke, who had been nominated for an Oscar, was lead actress in movies that were highest annual grossers, and, at a time when there were almost no female directors, directed several films. Speculation at the time that the exclusion was to placate Clint Eastwood... but did Melinda Dillon have a powerful enemy?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 13, 2023 3:21 PM |
To be honest it makes more sense to have Anne in the memorial over Kristie Alley. Alley was a tv star. Cause she starred in Looks who’s talking with John Travolta? Fuck outta here.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 13, 2023 3:28 PM |
I don't understand placating Eastwood. I get he was a star actor and director but what is he going to do to the academy? Not accept a nomination? Not visit their museum? I guess there is plenty of politics behind the scenes and I'm not aware of the power dynamics. The way it seems though is that even the most powerful actors want to stay in the good graces of the academy because they want to be nominated and they want to invited.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 13, 2023 3:37 PM |
Ever since the Academy left out Farrah Fawcett in the In Memoriam segment many years ago I knew the people who were making the list had no feel for the movie world, just social connections. Hasn't changed a bit.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 13, 2023 3:39 PM |
[quote]And she’s lesbian.
Mmmmkay.
[quote]I even had to double check to see if she died last March.
Did you exhume her to be sure she was dead?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 13, 2023 3:39 PM |
I think the way she died made her inclusion difficult at best. Anne Heche had a lot of demons and she let them get the better of her in the end. A lot of people are angry at what they see as reckless and entitled behavior that caused a lot of damage and very likely could have harmed or killed others. If she had survived that incident she would be reviled publicly and face years of legal woes. Celebrating her at the Oscars, which would be for bascially dying instead of facing the consequences, would have been a distraction at best. A lot of folks would have been angry, feeling it would detract from ONJ, Rachel Welch, Ray Liotta, and other stars with bigger movie careers who died tragically but without putting others at risk, and not due to their own actions, either.
I usually complain about In Memorium omissions, but this was the right call. Had she died of cancer I would feel differently.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 13, 2023 3:40 PM |
Olivia Newton-John was in one blockbuster movie (and a stinker or two), but she was included. The big shame is Melinda Dillon who had been Oscar-nominated twice (one for Close Encounters, which itself was a blockbuster).
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 13, 2023 3:44 PM |
I didn’t realize Paul Sorvino was left out. He was in a lot of things, Goodfellas alone was enough for him to be included. I agree about Anne and Melinda Dillion. Topol too, but as someone said, maybe too short notice. I notice they cover their ass now posting to go to their website for a complete memoriam.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 13, 2023 3:45 PM |
Are actors who died during the current year usually included in the In Memoriam segment or do they wait until next year?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 13, 2023 3:55 PM |
R61 The Academy used to honor only those who died the previous year, but they changed that rule a few years back to include those who died up until the airing of the show.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 13, 2023 3:58 PM |
I'm still not over Dorothy McGuire. They included Aaliyah who had made only ONE film! And left out Dorothy. She had one Best Actress nomination for Gentleman's Agreement. She certainly deserved one for A Tree Grows In Brooklyn over Jennifer Jones for Love Letters and Greer Garson in Valley Of Decision. She was in classics such as Friendly Persuasion, Old Yeller. A Summer Place (at least a DL classic), and Swiss Family Robinson. Her career spanned five decades. And she was overlooked for someone who had made one movie.
Yeah, I'm still not over it.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 13, 2023 4:05 PM |
Cindy Williams starred in two great films "American Graffiti" and "The Conversation." She definitely should've been included over Kirstie Ally.

Tom Sizemore was a wonderful actor before he became a drug addict. It’s a shame he wasn’t mentioned.
I remember watching Goodfellas and seeing Paul Sorvino’s character slice garlic into nearly transparent slices with a razor blade. For some reason, I think of that scene sometimes when I’m cooking. He was fairly well known and the father of an actress with an Oscar. There’s no excuse to not have him included!

A number of glaring omissions - Topol, Robert Black, Paul Sorvino....ugh!
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 13, 2023 4:16 PM |
Most people watching the Oscars would rather see actors featured before most of the casting directors and editors nobody knows.

R69 of course they would! And for a show so concerned with ratings …
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 13, 2023 4:51 PM |
No Jerry Ver Dorn, either. Who puts these memoriam segments together is awful.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 13, 2023 4:58 PM |
The Another World actors got snubbed! Anne Heche and Ray Liotta. Best actors, ever.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 13, 2023 5:18 PM |
Correct my Robert Black to Blake. I would have thought ONJ would be there since GREASE is an extremely popular film.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 13, 2023 5:23 PM |
All the P&G actors got snubbed. I'm sure if an ABC or Bell soap actor had died, the memoriam would be all over it. P&G continues to get no respect even all these years after getting out of the soap business.

by Anonymous | reply 78 | March 13, 2023 6:04 PM |
Putting Racquel Welch over James Caan is equally weird by the way. Wouldn’t you rather close your segment with a scene from The Godfather over some airbrushed pinup picture? You can’t compare the two’s contributions to cinema in any way.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | March 13, 2023 6:04 PM |

Anne Heche fried her snatch so that Ellen couldn’t eat it out anymore. A lezzy throygh and through but no one will ever think of Anne Heche as a movie actress. She was a failed soap opera actress who won an Emmy against 7 year olds. Woo hoo!!!
by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 13, 2023 6:44 PM |
The last name mentioned in the "In Memoriam" is no longer the person the AMPAS designates as the most famous or beloved performer anymore, r79.
That tradition ended many years ago because it had offended many survivors when their dead loved one was not the one chosen.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 13, 2023 6:48 PM |
I haven't read this thread yet so my apologies if it's been brought up already, but might it be possible she was omitted due to a family request? The COD and events leading up to it were so deranged and extraordinary. She could have easily killed the house's occupant. The family's still dealing with the legal mess and the shock and emotional fallout.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 13, 2023 6:48 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 87 | March 13, 2023 6:58 PM |
Anne He He wasn't a lesbian. She was with Steve Martin and when he didn't push her career enough she moved on to Ellen. When they split it was right back to the mens for Anne where she stayed until her death years later. There must be a "too cray" parameter, though pleny of cray gets through.
Robert Blake just died the day before the broadcast, too close to include him. Perhaps Topol was also too close to the air date. With any luck Blake will never be included because he's a murderer. Topol is just out of luck.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | March 13, 2023 7:09 PM |
They cut the list to make more time for awards. Paul Sorvino's widow is asking for an apology.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | March 13, 2023 7:10 PM |
Stella Stevens was also a huge oversight. Where Angels Go Trouble Follows is one of my all-time favorite movies, and she was so cute in it. Yes, she was the poor man's Kim Novak, but still she deserved a mention. She was certainly a better actress than Raquel Welsh.

I do wonder if Ellen had anything to do with it. Anne was saying openly on her podcast that Ellen was vindictive after their breakup and made sure Anne couldn't get hired, supposedly.
But would Ellen still have any clout, given how her talk show went down in flames? I'm doubtful.
It's just bizarre. Anne absolutely should have been included.

Was Fred Ward omitted? I haven’t watched the segment.

No Fred.

The fact that Robert Blake had died a few days prior is not a good enough excuse to leave him out. They are professionals and know how to edit quickly. He was a member of "Our Gang." His career started way before any of the other actors they featured.

Was Tony Dow or Howard Hesseman included?

Robert Blake is not on their website either indicating it was too late and he might be in next year's telecast.

R129 they’re clearly not including him nor anyone who was “controversial.”

at one point there were two photos on the screen, one would go into focus while the other went out; they could have included more folks by putting four images on at once and dissolving a second earlier; might have been rushed but get more names in.

R129 He’s not going to be fucking included. He murdered the woman he was fucking. You elders cannot be this naive. They joked about him during the ceremony. You don’t murder and get honored.

[quote] She co-starred in many high profile movies + tragic nature of her death = she should have been included easily. Even crazier that a two time Oscar nominee (Melinda Dillon) was left off. I would think all acting nominees would get automatic inclusion. Are they gonna leave Teri Garr out when she dies, too?
Sadly, I think Garr will be left out after she dies in part because she retired from acting years ago and she is somewhat forgotten in the media.

Thank, R126. That makes me sad. He was in so many movies, including The Right Stuff and Tremors. His career spanned decades.

I think that’s why they didn’t include Melinda Dillon. She was a working actress but never a star. When you look at who they chose, it was the big name stars and Kirstie Alley.

Melinda Dillon was a revelation as Mr. Bentley's GF on The Jeffersons. She deserved a mention, if only for that.

Neither were half the casting directors and costume designers they include.

Has Anna Stuart issued a statement about Anne's omission? They were BFFs and Anna bought Anne her first dildo.

I think leaving Melinda Dillon was quite sad because she had two Oscar nominations.

One of which was Close Encounters of the Third Kind which was a huge blockbuster in its day and has earned a place as a cult movie.

Teri Garr in her day was a bigger name than Melinda Dillion though. And not just on DL.

R138 Krazy KooKoodora nutcase from SON has melted down. The crazy bitch doesn’t understand that F’Anne Heche wasn’t a movie star. She was a soap opera star. There is a reason why crazy F’Anne Heche wasn’t mentioned. She was a crazy bitch and wasn’t a movie star!!!

Maybe, gee, I don't know they could take time away from Jimmy Kimmel asking stupid questions to Malala and use that time to throw in a tribute to those who actually made contributions to film.

Anne was known primarily as a soap actress. The only soap actors who could potentially get a tribute when the time comes are Lucci and Braeden.

Melinda Dillon also was a dress-extra in The Prince Of Tides.
In a coma!
