Tasteful friends: Fran Lebowitz, seated & smoking, conducts a critique of a NoHo loft
The popcorn ceilings, the location, everything done to the space she hates. Ad she's not wrong.
The three level loft's owner is architect turned creative director Marc Balet with whom Lebowitz worked at Interview magazine 30 years ago when he bought the place - against her advice.
There's a recent Homeworthy YT video as have often featured in Tasteful Friends threads about Ballet and the loft. It's awkward and far too long, like all of the Homeworthy videos.
I don't hate lofts. On principal I like them. It's just that so many things can go wrong just as they do here. Ballet win the Prix de Rome and had as a young man an exhibit at the Whitney of his conceptual architecture designs, but there's no staggering architectural talent at work here. It's an interesting space, interesting as a dirt of open scrapbook of his Warhol days and catalogue of friends and aquaintances (Lebowitz figures prominently on memory wall for want of a more descriptive term.) It's a very personal space, everything very much to the owner's taste and requirements. A boozy your would be great fun. It's huge. It must be very valuable. It's just not a beautiful space.
The video is under 4 minutes and more interesting for Fran Lebowitz subset of Tasteful Friends. A better view of the loft is the Homeworthy tour.

It snot long and its not awkward. They are very old dear friends and Fran is doing her shtick. He's heard it eleventy zillion times and must like it because he's friends with Fran.

Oh, is R1 the too long one? I see. Well I don't see because I don't need to watch that. I saw it all in under 2 minutes in the trailer!

There are some stunning pieces - but so much stuff crammed in.

I recently watched the Fran documentary by Scorsese. Took me a while to warm to it, but I wound up loving it. Still laughing at Fran talking about how hilarious and embarrassing it would be to be eaten by a bear.

"I don't want to be amused by decor."
Couldn't have said it better myself.

Fran’s being an asshole in this sad little video. That’s ok, except it’s not really funny or interesting. I know she is really smart and can be clever and funny, but I don’t see any of that in evidence here.

She's at her best riffing like this. Unfortunately most of the time she is given a microphone and carte blanche to bitch and she is insufferable.

The longer clip is more interesting. I’d call this guy a charming older man, likely jacked up on growth hormones, but attractive and colorful. That huge place is impressive and he was very smart to lock it down the way he did. Among all that tat are some very valuable things, and he must know that, but his attachment and personal connections are real and interesting (to me, at least). He must have really looked after himself to look like that at 80. That tight athleisure wear doesn’t keep any secrets, though. He would look nicer in normal clothing.

Another Fran lover checking in. Well, not literally but you know...
Remember an interview where she said she was a crap girlfriend (but great regular friend).
One of her first jobs was writing term papers for Ivy league students. Maybe she helped George Bush out?

I don't know who that Fran lady is, I thought it would be ANNIE leibovitz, I was shocked to see Isabelle Adjani on the cover, , wow remember when she was hailed as the new Vivien Leigh ? I would love Marc to give me a long tour of his dick. I love sexy older daddies

Fran and Toni Morrison were not lovers even though Fran wanted it badly.

R25 there are many photos of the 2 looking like a couple and I recall Holland Taylor alluded to them being a couple on some podcast

Fran could just sit there and do nothing but smoke, and I'd love her. Those little moves she does with her fingers when she talks are outstanding. She was just born funny.

The long video was fantastic. He seems a really nice guy and obviously loves the place. I agree with another poster, I wouldn’t want to use those stairs. I wonder were he will move to?
