MURMUR OF THE HEART

What a perfect gem from the neglected Louis Malle. Incest never looked so beautiful, especially in the face of Lea Massari. Wonderfully shot and edited, it truly is a remarkable film that has not dated one bit. Bird's music is an inspiration.

Guessing they wouldn’t get away with this one nowadays….

I love this movie.

R1 That's my thought when I saw this thread... a movie that couldn't get made today (in the latter-day puritan times we live in).

It was a perfect movie. And I agree Louis Malle is a great director, though I wouldn't say underrated or neglected: for film students he's always talked about among the best directors of his ilk (generation, nationality, cinematic style).

Always watch this and Spanking the Monkey together.

I wish he had made an update with Candice.

It's one of the many great movies that Louis Malle made. A highly underrated director. I will tell you one thing tho - every man with any taste - straight, gay, bi, q - loves this movie, but women do NOT like it.

by Anonymousreply 12March 8, 2023 11:30 AM

Why? Why don't women like it?

by Anonymousreply 13March 8, 2023 9:21 PM

I always thought Louis Malle was over rated.

by Anonymousreply 14March 8, 2023 9:23 PM

I thought this was going to be about Music of the Heart.

Seems like the only lesson the kid learned was that he could just grab them by the pussy whenever?? Very French!

Mauro Bolognini's UN BELLISSIMO NOVEMBRE (69): aunt-nephew incest (Gina Lollobrigida/Paolo Turco, aged 17).

It's like a European "jandra."

Lea Massari Was beautiful in this. Somewhat reminiscent of Carla Bruni when she’s looking at her best.

by Anonymousreply 18March 9, 2023 1:48 AM

I would fuck Lea Massri even if she were a quadriplegic, lesbian, Republican....I passed ropes of sperm over that scene with her son. Fuck me blind!

by Anonymousreply 19March 9, 2023 2:26 AM

It was too dark!

by Anonymousreply 20March 9, 2023 2:31 AM

Is it streaming? Where?

by Anonymousreply 21March 9, 2023 10:54 PM

I just rewatched. Terrific film, although the final scene feels different tonally. TCM should have included this in its Mother’s Day lineup.

by Anonymousreply 22May 14, 2023 1:47 AM

I love it too. It's a wild and funny movie, with some great jazz on the soundtrack. Benoît Ferreux, who played Laurent, grew up to be quite BDF handsome. Lea Massari retired long ago, but will turn 90 next month.

Add me to the list of people who love this movie. Really don’t make movies like this anymore - it’s sad. Louis Malle made a few of my favorite movies, all very different from one another. This, Elevator to the Scaffold and The Fire Within. Also The Lovers.
