This is a wild story and your thread is the first I've heard of it. The article at R2 links to a NY Post piece that begins:

I'm never surprised by star academics behaving badly, but the financial abuse was interesting because it's so much easier to prove than some of the personal allegations.

The level of apparent collusion (of course they deny all wrongdoing) by the administration at Hunter is just breathtaking as well.
