Allegedly, big pecs became a thing due to a gay men in the body building competition.

Supply and demand

We do love our tits.

by Anonymousreply 2March 6, 2023 10:48 PM

OP like his men to look like Jane Russell.

by Anonymousreply 3March 6, 2023 11:07 PM

OP, not surprising. Gay men start lots of stuff that straight men eventually accept as "their own" . For instance, really short shorts. Gay men started that. In the 90s and 00s, you would not catch a straight man wearing short shorts. But now, straight men wear shorts like that all the time, especially if they have big legs. A win for humanity I guess.

How does one become a weightlifter without getting nice pecs

by Anonymousreply 5March 6, 2023 11:22 PM

"I never see a picture where the guy's tits are bigger than the lady's."

--Groucho Marx, when asked by the press if he was going to see SAMSON DELILAH (1950) with Victor Mature and Hedy Lamarr

If you specifically don't work your chest out with chest-focused exercises, you'll less likely to have a big chest.

No, not at all

by Anonymousreply 8March 7, 2023 12:25 AM

I like pecs that blend into the chest.

by Anonymousreply 9March 7, 2023 12:42 AM

This guy had some round pecs. 1940s?

Back then they were concentrating more on the arms and shoulders than the pectorals.

by Anonymousreply 12March 7, 2023 1:31 AM

They were not using steroids?

by Anonymousreply 13March 7, 2023 1:32 AM

It’s jutting out or nothing for me.

By nothing, I mean flat chests are also fine.

What R13 wrote

by Anonymousreply 15March 7, 2023 4:18 AM

Because that's how they come naturally? Men are supposed to have a flat chest? Flat chest, narrow hips, muscled arms and legs, tightness everywhere. Big chested men are sorta feminine.

[quote] Big chested men are sorta feminine

R16 has not seen a man naked in over 30 years

by Anonymousreply 17March 7, 2023 6:36 AM

R16. Men who do so much exercise they have big chests are feminine?

Work that one out.

by Anonymousreply 18March 7, 2023 8:07 AM

They did have great arms back then... but no abs.

Bodybuilders today focus specifically on building the chest with bench presses and flys. Those are not exactly natural movements except for swimmers. Weight lifting in my mind actually implies lifting weights from the ground and over one's head or else curl-type motions. Bench presses are 'weight pushing,' not lifting, and flys are, as well. So I think the term weight lifting in and of itself is an artifact that pretty much explains why chest muscles were not originally as affected: because originally, men lifted weights, they didn't push and pull them.

You idiots didn’t watch the video, didn’t you

The video clearly states why the chests of these old hotties were flatter than those of more recent times
