Who has had hair transplants (actors, news people)

McBongo obviously. That stuff he said grew his hair back denies they are capable of growing hair in bare spots.

by Anonymousreply 55March 7, 2023 6:45 AM

Joel McHale has admitted to having three, as of 2020.

Cheyenne Jackson says he's had five surgeries.

yikes Cheyne has that old kind where the slash the back of the head. Gross. Isn't there a new kind that's better?

by Anonymousreply 3March 5, 2023 6:42 AM

I had one two years ago. I'm very happy with the results. Yes, Cheyenne had an FUT at some point. It looks like he's also had an FUE. You can see the pigmented scars from the FUE. Austin Wolf has had an FUE. His FUE scars were very visible a couple years ago. He's healed well..

by Anonymousreply 4March 5, 2023 6:48 AM

I’m starting to suspect Gavin Newsom of having transplants. The front part in the middle looks super-dense. He’s still got recession on the sides, though.

by Anonymousreply 5March 5, 2023 6:49 AM

Which one did you have r4 FUT or FUE?

by Anonymousreply 6March 5, 2023 6:57 AM

POTUS

by Anonymousreply 7March 5, 2023 6:59 AM

F4 here. I had the FUE.

by Anonymousreply 8March 5, 2023 7:07 AM

Pat Sajak hasn't.

by Anonymousreply 9March 5, 2023 7:40 AM

Did you have scars r4/r8?

by Anonymousreply 10March 5, 2023 8:06 AM

R9, Pat sends his out to be cleaned with his dry cleaning.

by Anonymousreply 11March 5, 2023 8:09 AM

Today's hair transplants are not your father's hair transplants.

Most male celebrities over 40 who still have a full head of hair will have had a transplant at some point and probably having them continually.

by Anonymousreply 13March 5, 2023 11:57 AM

Biden and Trump. But not me.

by Anonymousreply 14March 5, 2023 12:08 PM

I wish Prince Harry would.

by Anonymousreply 15March 5, 2023 12:12 PM

Steve Carell, Jason Isaacs, and Chris Evans are a few that strike me as really obvious but I would echo R17 to say that nearly every male celebrity over 40 is actively treating hair loss in some way.

Not George Clooney, though. His is real, the handsome bastard.

by Anonymousreply 16March 5, 2023 12:16 PM

R16 I read "Jason Isaacs" and googled, hoping you would be wrong. Damn, why? He looked so fine before. At least he didn't fuck up his gorgeous face.

by Anonymousreply 17March 5, 2023 12:33 PM

R13 It's possible that they have been taking Finasteride (Proscar/Propecia) from a fairly young age. I started on it at around 25 (when I noticed very slight hair loss) and at 55 still have a full head of hair. Probably more now than I had when I started taking it.

by Anonymousreply 18March 5, 2023 12:38 PM

For those wondering about the acronyms- as I was:

[quote]There are two types of hair transplants: follicular unit extraction (FUE) and follicular unit transplantation (FUT). A FUE procedure involves the individual extraction of hair follicles, which are then transplanted elsewhere on the scalp, while a FUT procedure involves removing a long strip of the scalp, separating the follicles, and then transplanting them.

Could those of you that have done this talk about cost, and especially, any discomfort or pain during or after the procedure?

Suddenly I am thinking about this.

The guy in R12's link may have some answers for you. Apparently, Turkey is the place to go for surgery.

by Anonymousreply 22March 5, 2023 2:51 PM

Do you think techniques will get even better soon? I just don’t want to commit to something that might be obvious when maybe there will be easier and more subtle methods in the future.

by Anonymousreply 23March 5, 2023 2:52 PM

Turkey will not operate on anyone who has HIV.

by Anonymousreply 24March 5, 2023 2:55 PM

It's hard to work in Hollywood and not have them done, given how youth-obsessed Hollywood is. I even know someone who works in editing who had a transplant because he felt like he was perceived as old otherwise.

Wigs used to be the go-to, but unless you get expensive wigs you look stupid.

The sad thing is: everyone ages. There's only so much you can do. Cheyenne Jackson has had five transplants but he's no longer the young hunk who could be up for lead roles (which he never got in film or TV anyway).

by Anonymousreply 25March 5, 2023 3:06 PM

How much is it to go to Turkey or New Dehli to get it done? Say 7000 grafs? asking for a friend.

by Anonymousreply 26March 5, 2023 3:44 PM

Is there any reason why a surgeon in the US couldn’t achieve the same results?

by Anonymousreply 27March 5, 2023 4:19 PM

I firmly believe that Richard Simmons' decision to "disappear" from public life has everything to do with him running out of donor hair, and the resulting bald spots that can no longer be covered up.

Ever since he became famous in the late 70's, he talked about how he had to get hair transplants...although he blamed his hair loss on his unhealthy starvation diet, rather than genetics (which is probably him being deceptive and not wanting to publicly state the fact that he's simply one of those people who went bald early in life).

Those 70's transplants were pretty brutal, but his frizzy hair texture helped hide what was going on. That's why he stuck with his ridiculous, big poofy Afro his entire life.

I think he continued to get transplants as he lost more and more hair over the years, but he eventually got to the point where the hair loss was too much, and he no longer had any hair left in the donor areas to continue the cover-up. In his last public TV appearances, it was really obvious that he was drastically thinning all over the top of his head. Those bright TV lights exposed it all.

He couldn't bear to be seen like that by the public, or to see himself like that, so he just...mysteriously went away, and no longer allowed himself to be seen in public.

by Anonymousreply 28March 5, 2023 4:40 PM

Are donor areas other parts of the body - like pubes or happy trail? Apologies for being dense.

by Anonymousreply 29March 5, 2023 4:56 PM

Donor areas are the sides and back of the head...the hair that you don't lose, even if you go bald.

Some doctors have used chest and back hair as donor hair as well, but I don't think it's a widespread practice.

by Anonymousreply 30March 5, 2023 5:21 PM

All the men in my family have full heads of hair into their 80s. Older brother still hasn't lost hair on his head at all and he is 66. If I did go bald, I'd embrace it. But I totally understand for anyone who makes a living in front of a camera. Same with veneers. No one wants to see gross teeth on the big screen.

R27 yes: Affordability.

by Anonymousreply 33March 5, 2023 6:33 PM

R18, what's your hairline like these days? I started finasteride in my early 30s, and I'm about your age, so a long term user. I also have a full head of hair, but my hairline has become more mature over the past 20 years, a bit more than I'd prefer tbh

by Anonymousreply 34March 5, 2023 6:45 PM

[quote] Is there any reason why a surgeon in the US couldn’t achieve the same results?

If you do it in the US, it's quite a bit more expensive. I think it cost my cousin five times more to do it in Los Angeles than if he had done it in Istanbul (although you would also have to factor in the cost of the roundtrip ticket and the hotel stay). His argument was that doing surgery overseas would not give him much chance of accountability, particularly in what has become more or less a dictatorship and where he does not speak the native language.

by Anonymousreply 35March 5, 2023 6:47 PM

Those of you who are long tern Propecia users, have you found it has decreased your ability to desire sex or get hard? I have heard that is a fairly common (and sometimes irreversible) side effect of the medication.

by Anonymousreply 36March 5, 2023 6:57 PM

Joe Biden! There was some footage of the Clarence Thomas hearings. I'd forgotten he was completely bald back then.

by Anonymousreply 37March 5, 2023 7:42 PM

Michael Keaton got plugs back in the 80's or early 90's. He was really losing his hair, and then he wasn't.

I think he had some touch-up work later on as the technology got better, so his hairline doesn't look as pluggy.

His doctor was also smart, and left him with a very high, receding hairline, which has served him well as he's aged.

He looks like what he is...a 60-something balding man. Without the transplant, he would be a 60-something totally bald man.

by Anonymousreply 38March 5, 2023 7:54 PM

Andrew Garfield was thinning/receding at the temples a few years ago and now miraculously isn’t, so I assume he had something done

by Anonymousreply 39March 5, 2023 8:15 PM

Garfield definitely had a hair transplant, and it’s good work.

by Anonymousreply 40March 5, 2023 8:37 PM

I was just about to type that Garfield most certainly had his receding corner's filled in with FUE/FUT, as he was deeply receding 4-5 years ago.

Bradley Cooper also had superlative work done on his hairline around the time of The Hangover. It corresponded with him growing out his locks for the first time and being dubbed 'Sexiest Man Alive'.

David Spade has had at least 2 procedures (one in the late 90s that was plug-ier and one sometime in the late 00's that bolstered it substantially).

Seth MacFarlane had an excellent one done (though he caked it with Toppik initially which made it look like a bad rug). Harry Connick Jr had the old 'flap' procedure around '98 that was softened with grafts. Stallone also had the same (risky) 'flap' procedure. There aren't many men over 35 working in Hollywood that haven't had some kind of augmentation done follicularly.

by Anonymousreply 41March 5, 2023 9:30 PM

It's my impression that the majority of hair transplants look a bit unnatural Valley-ish. Not quite natural. But maybe the really expensive work done by surgeons with a keen aesthetic eye are the ones I don't know about, so I only notice the mediocre stuff

by Anonymousreply 42March 5, 2023 9:35 PM

R34 It's still the same, but I take the 5mg Finasteride (lowest dose available on a UK NHS prescription). It is covered by my £108 yearly pre-payment charge that way (I also take blood pressure, statins and asthma drugs, probably 12 items a month)

I think the versions supplied by hair loss clinics are only 1-2mg. Maybe they aren't as effective?

R36 It did initially, then went OK.

R18

by Anonymousreply 43March 5, 2023 9:47 PM

R34 Forgot to add that I also use prescription Nizoral Shampoo 4 times a week, It also has a side effect of blocking testosterone. Been doing that for 30 years also.

R32's link is interesting. I had no idea David Beckham and Adam Levine were once so bald. So many middle-aged men with middle-aged faces and the hair of a 20 year-old.

what has happened here?

R38 Michael Keaton has aged really really well, in my opinion.

by Anonymousreply 47March 6, 2023 8:59 AM

I think that's Benicio's real hair at R46. Might be dyed, though. I see some gray / white roots on the sideburns.

by Anonymousreply 48March 6, 2023 9:10 AM

Jake Tapper?

That’s the problem, it doesn’t always look good.

by Anonymousreply 50March 6, 2023 9:31 AM

Elon Musk owns this thread. Just

by Anonymousreply 51March 6, 2023 12:25 PM

Elon Musk went from looking like an ugly, balding man to looking like an ugly, butch lesbian with his transplant.

by Anonymousreply 52March 6, 2023 12:48 PM

R52, agreed. He was never good looking but I guess the hair transplant makes him more human looking.

by Anonymousreply 53March 6, 2023 1:13 PM

I asked a dermatologist for propecia and he wouldn't prescribe it. He said there are studies linking it to cancer (prostate I believe.)

by Anonymousreply 54March 7, 2023 5:44 AM

I think you need another doctor, R54. Finasteride was initially prescribed to reduce the size the size of the prostate.
