I'm black and my parents were saying the black people versus n-words thing for years. So, no, he wasn't catering to a white audience. That was an accident. How can you compare the two?

If Will Smith had slapped Chris Rock in a nightclub, or at a restaurant, or at a private party, it would be no big deal.

The thing is, he did it AT THE OSCARS. Hollywood's biggest night. The night the motion picture industry dedicates every year to patting itself on the back, in front of a worldwide audience. A night which marks a tradition that goes back decades, in which some of the greatest legends in entertainment history are recognized for their greatest work.

It wasn't Jada or Rock. Will is a narcissist. His star has been falling for quite some time and he's lashing out. He used to be a superstar but hasn't had a blockbuster in years. He became a laughingstock because he made his weirdo family the center of his public persona. His Oscar was a lifetime achievement award from the industry to say 'thanks for all the money you made us in the 90s, now fuck off'. He dramatic chops are limited, the 50+ male action genre played out, his comedic options thin as his type of humor suited his younger years. He should have taken the hint and transitioned completely to producing. Now he's fucked, because no one wants to work with him because of the slap. His fans jump on Rock, but Rock didn't kill Smith's reputation or career. Smith did.

r291 that made me think of The Rock, wonder how long he remain popular in action movies? I think he is wearing on people's nerves and he fought with his studio when his superhero movie bombed. Now he has a show kind of like 'Everybody Hates Chris' that Rock had.

If Will Smith makes another Bad Boys movie that could be his hope for a hit. But with the political correctness of today he would not be able to make one like he did 20 years ago.

Smith needs to wait a couple of years before doing another movie. There were rumors that he wanted to hold off on Emancipation but the studio insisted they go forward with it, which was a big mistake.
