My agnostic/atheist friends, sisters, told their pastor cousin not to worry about leaning too heavy on the religious stuff when he officiated their (slightly religious) mother's funeral in small-town Louisiana.

Of course, he couldn't resist working in a good dose of it, finishing his sermon by saying "...and we take great comfort in knowing that right now, Kaye is in a much better place--a place with no pain and no sorrow. A place where there is great peace."

Right as he sat down, the opening bars of John Lennon's Imagine started, then, "Imagine there's no Heaven..."

I elbowed my friend pretty hard and we had a good laugh about it later. She said her mom had chosen the songs.

It wasn't at a funeral, but at a wedding reception in the banquet room of a restaurant where I was dining. The drunk groom made the band play the same song over and over while he danced by himself on the main floor.
