I liked the trailer, but I love occult films in general.

Calling it now - it will be a major flop. Why release it on April 14 ? Easter is April 9, so if you want to stir up some controversy with the Catholic Church and score free publicity, you release it during Lent (which started Wednesday). Dumb asses !

Seriously, the devil would have more to fear from me than I would from it, but still, possession schlock, if done right, does manage to frighten me.

I think the thing about the original "The Exorcist", both the novel and movie. that frightened me is the contrast between the modern-day setting with all of our scientific knowledge and the ancient clash between evil and humankind.

I like Russell Crowe, he's an asshole but I don't care. He's a great actor and I want to see him on the screen.

That score is really effective.

You just know his boss the Pope is Boss Satan.

Russell Crowe is always good. The atmosphere of this movie looks interesting.

If I compare Anthony Hopkin's Van Helsing accent in "Bram Stokers Dracula" to Crowe's accent here, I prefer Crowe's.

It's a variation on Angelina Jolie only taking roles where she's behind heavy make-up - "Malificent" and "The Eternals" where she was shown in very CGI, flattering angles.

In real life, Amorth thought that Harry Potter (and yoga, if I'm remembering correctly) were evil, so, uh, yeah - not exactly on the edge of my seat to watch a biopic about some hick priest giving exorcisms to schizophrenics. William Friedkin followed this guy around with a camera a few years ago for a doc; The Exorcist is one of my favorite films, and I was really eager to give that a watch until I read what a dumdum this priest was.

Meh…interesting trailer but I don’t like that genre.

When the prestige rolls started to dry up Liam Neeson turned to the action route. It turned out to be a smart career move. Liam may have aged but he remains in decent shape and his movies do decent box office.

Russel Crowe does not have that option . He has become the new Steven Sagal. No one will find it believable to see him running down a city street or jumping from buliding to building or getting into a brawl with gang thugs.

Alex Essoe is in this, and she picks her horror pretty carefully. She starred in Starry Eyes, one of my favorite Indy horror pics.

She was also in Midnight Mass recently, a miniseries.

I mean, her being in it is no guarantee it’s going to be amazing, but my hopes are high.

I can't wait to see him in "Girdleator 2: The Fattening".

Still, I gotta admit, even though he was all ham in both “Hoffa” and “Terms of Endearment”, his presence is so compelling in both.

Beatty reeled him in in “Reds” but I find Nicholson more memorable than any other cast member.

Ok so I'm not even a "horror" guy per se, but this looks fun to me. It looks good. I like the vibe and I'm curious already how it ends.

I think he looks amazing here, too. And I love his voice, and the accent. I was never lusting after RC in the before-times so it's not a loss to me that he's in his Orson Welles era. I think it makes him more compelling, if anything. It lets the acting take the spotlight as opposed to his looks, which I think he deserves. It might even be a relieve for the guy to finally get to just be an actor rather than have to also be a sex symbol. If your heart is not really in it, then micromanaging your appearance and especially your weight can get exhausting.

I just watched this on my laptop (it's available for free on certain sites - you have to find it). I was quite surprised how engaging this is - saved by Crowe's performance.

Sure, the whole movie plays like a Cher video (burning crucifixes, candles everywhere, an old abbey, howling winds, rain, thunder, lightening, broken windows) and the character are very cliché, Still, worth watching for free.

BTW, I heard Nefarious is supposed to be the better film out of the two.

It’s okay. I thought it lost a lot of steam in the second half and I was never scared. Someone above said that the kid’s voice is terrible and I agree. It was poorly executed. Even Wan’s The Nun and even Anthony Hopkins in The Rite were more menacing “horror” films to me. A masterpiece like Hereditary is in a completely different galaxy from this film; it made me explicitly remember the demon Paimon for the rest of my life.
