Jeremy Strong’s Method Acting deemed “Fucking Annoying”

Brian Cox has spoken

Well I think Cox is right. Like he says in the article acting is not a religious experience is a skill. Method actors are really annoying actually. I can imagine how insufferable Jeremy must be on set.

by Anonymousreply 1February 22, 2023 11:14 AM

Brian Cox has complained about so many people so often that he has officially become tiresome.

by Anonymousreply 2February 22, 2023 11:26 AM

My boy, have you tried acting?

by Anonymousreply 3February 22, 2023 11:30 AM

Both are great actors. I like Jeremy Strong's intensity, it works very well for him. Brian Cox, as well. However, I tune him out when he says crap like this. He's probably no joy himself.

by Anonymousreply 4February 22, 2023 11:32 AM

Just. Fucking. Act.

If you need all that constant prep to act, you might want to reconsider your calling in life.

by Anonymousreply 5February 22, 2023 1:46 PM

I think it shows very poor judgment to criticize a fellow actor publically while the show is still shooting.

Why cause unnecessary friction on the set? That is very unfair to the rest of the cast.

The only thing that ultimately matters is what shows up on the screen/stage. Not how you got there.

by Anonymousreply 7February 22, 2023 2:32 PM

I could not agree more, R7. Brian Cox sounds almost as fucky as Logan Roy.

by Anonymousreply 8February 22, 2023 4:59 PM

Brian Cox is the gift that keeps on giving. I find him delightful. He's also an exceptional actor who knows what he's talking about. I enjoy the fact he's taking some of these obnoxious actors down a peg or two. He should be a DL icon.

I think this is a case of classic/UK acting beliefs versus American ones. Since Brando, American actors seem to have it drilled into their heads that naturalism via Method isn’t just the preferred acting style, it’s the only valid one. UK actors (who have not lost their value placed upon stage work for the most part unlike Americans, ironically) think intense Method is a bit silly at best. Daniel Day Lewis is a big exception to the rule.

R6 R7

Are you guys in the acting industry?

It's interesting because while Brando is the one who put Method Acting on the map, it was Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro, and later, Daniel Day-Lewis, that took it to the extreme. Brando was a pain in the ass for other reasons on the set that went beyond his acting choices.

How do we know that by spouting endless cuntitude at his Succession kid, Brian Cox isn't Method acting as Logan Roy?

by Anonymousreply 14February 22, 2023 11:25 PM

I think Strong sounds insufferable. Just say the words on the page for fuck's sake.

by Anonymousreply 15February 22, 2023 11:27 PM

I can't stand this series.

We deal with enough of these rich assholes in our daily lives, why do we have to see them on TV?

When I watch a TV series or a film, I want to be entertained, to sometimes escape my reality, whether it's a comedy to something deeper. This series isn't entertaining, it's excruciating.

All the characters are unlikeable, who is there to root for or just plain like? I feel nothing but disdain for these people. No, I don't watch this series. I watched three episodes in the beginning and I was out.

by Anonymousreply 16February 22, 2023 11:35 PM

I love this series, great acting, great writing, great show.

Jeremy Strong does a very nice job but even he knows that he's no Brian fucking Cox.

by Anonymousreply 17February 22, 2023 11:37 PM

What is method acting?

by Anonymousreply 18February 23, 2023 12:04 AM

I thought Jeremy was great; he does hurt so well. In fact, all the acting was top-notch. I was pleasantly surprised by Alan Ruck as I have only seen him in Ferris.

by Anonymousreply 19June 21, 2023 7:33 AM

R2 Yeah. It's one of those things that is amusing at first but dreary and repetitive. He's like the Gallagher brother from oasis now. Constant stream of negativity anger and whining.

by Anonymousreply 20June 21, 2023 7:35 AM

I am now Team Jeremy.

Jeremy might be fussy and annoying on set, but Cox should remember that no one like a bully.
