Which of the Disney movies starring Hayley Mills is your fav, and why ?

Me, Pollyanna of course. Warm, beguiling, very touching, and she's divine. to paraphrase : the film gets well beyond the charm of mere tableau for short flights in the empyrean of genuine domestic poetry.

The Moon-Spinners has everything. Extreme nostalgia causing movie. I find it almost hypnotic.

by Anonymousreply 1February 21, 2023 9:33 PM

The Parent Trap.........In Search of the Castaways.....

But my favorite is POLLYANNA with SUMMER MAGIC a close second.

by Anonymousreply 2February 21, 2023 9:53 PM

I voted for Pollyanna because I love Aunt Polly's house and the cast's costumes, but The Parent Trap is a very close second. I also love the Moon-Spinners because Peter McEnery is such a looker. But really, I love them all.

by Anonymousreply 3February 21, 2023 9:59 PM

What R1 said - The Moon Spinners has gorgeous locations, a fuckable male lead, nice theme song, a silent film star making her final onscreen appearance and a leopard. I first watched the film on Christmas day years ago so I'll always associate it with Xmas holidays (even though it's a very summer-y film) and usually watch it every year around that time.

Summer Magic is the only one I can't remember a single thing about.

by Anonymousreply 4February 21, 2023 10:04 PM

I like Pollyanna for the same reasons as R3, also for Kevin Corcoran who looked so much like my little brother did and was just as goofy, and Agnes Moorehead. I also play the glad game very often, it's quite useful.

by Anonymousreply 5February 21, 2023 10:11 PM

Though I love “The Parent Trap,” which I saw in a theater when it first came out, my favorite is also “Pollyanna,” which I resisted for years, due to its saccharine nature. When I finally watched it, years later, I realized it’s actually very good. Well-written and performed by everyone, especially Haley, who does great work, well earning the special Oscar she received for it.

The Parent Trap. It was the first movie I saw a second time.

by Anonymousreply 8February 21, 2023 10:45 PM

Pollyanna has the extremely handsome James Drury.

by Anonymousreply 9February 21, 2023 10:48 PM

"Pollyanna" has some great stuff in it. Jane Wyman and Karl Malden are both terrific in it (and Malden's "Death comes as the end!" fire-and-brimstone sermon is hilarious).

Unfortunately Agnes Moorhead overacts, and Hayley Mills is just terrible in it.

by Anonymousreply 10February 21, 2023 10:51 PM

The Parent Trap for that gawdawful song. Just try to keep this earworm out of your mind!

The Parent Trap 2. Because I was the assistant prop master and got to work closely with Hayley for just over a month. I was kneeling just out of camera range to make the kitchen door shut as if it was on a spring. One of several times we got to chat between camera shots.

The little red head actress was a full grade CUNT at eleven.

Parent Trap, because just a few years earlier the evil potential stepmother was DL fav Gloria Upson in Auntie Mame.

Death comes unexpectedly!!!!

by Anonymousreply 14February 21, 2023 11:27 PM

I always liked Summer Magic

by Anonymousreply 15February 21, 2023 11:29 PM

I don't do polls from OPs who don't understand capitalization.

I saw the Parent Trap when I was about eight years old. This shot of Brian Keith got my attention. I still recall the moment in the movie. I think I saw stars.

I don't know about that. She was charming, sure, but she could not shake off her veddy British accent even though she was supposed to be an American from Vermont in POLLYANNA.

Same story in PARENT TRAP. One twin from Boston and one from California and yet they sound suspiciously English.

Not to take away from her performances, which were enjoyable, but she wasn't much of an actress.

by Anonymousreply 24February 22, 2023 11:17 AM

r24 = Juliet Mills

by Anonymousreply 25February 22, 2023 12:21 PM

No love for That Darn Cat? It is probably not the best of the movies listed, but it is a fun little movie. At least I thought so as a kid and Dean Jones did not look too bad.

by Anonymousreply 26February 22, 2023 1:02 PM

Love that darn cat. never saw the Christina Ricci version, but it's such a 60's candy, I doubt a remake would be any better

R4 don't forget the lovely Joan Greenwood and her delightfully raspy voice

The Parent Trap 2-disc DVD set has a lot of fun extras. Hayley talks about the girl who was her double and how she did a great performance as both sisters, too, but of course she was left on the cutting room floor.

Summer Magic has Peter Brown and Eddie Hodges......and a very sweet story. Dorothy McGuire is very good as well.....and of course the knock-kneed Deborah Walley (not really).

by Anonymousreply 32February 22, 2023 2:56 PM

and she become a SLUT in

The Family Way

by Anonymousreply 33February 22, 2023 3:50 PM

She was not a slut in The Family Way.

Her own father John Mills played the father of her limp husband in that movie.

I can not participate in a poll that utilizes such bad grammar and spelling.

by Anonymousreply 35February 22, 2023 4:06 PM

None of the above. I prefer Whistle Down the Wind.

by Anonymousreply 36February 22, 2023 4:58 PM

My favorite Hayley Mills movies is by far Pollyanna

but only the first few seconds when that BOY is swinging from a rope into the river NAKED.

The Parent Trap #1, Pollyanna #2.

Favorite Hayler movie of all time: The Trouble with Angels.

by Anonymousreply 40February 22, 2023 5:59 PM

The Trouble With Angels is the best.

by Anonymousreply 41February 22, 2023 6:01 PM

R11, that song made it to #8 on that year on the radio so people liked it enough. I had the 45 rpm.

Hayley's husband in The Family Way was Hywel Bennett the naked gay guy in The Twisted Nerve also with Hayley.......

by Anonymousreply 44February 22, 2023 7:03 PM

He was supposed to be gay in Twisted Nerve?

by Anonymousreply 45August 13, 2023 1:02 AM

Those flag costumes in OP's video always creeped me out. There's something vaguely bondage fetish about them to have kids trapped in them.

by Anonymousreply 46August 13, 2023 1:07 AM

[quote]I can not participate in a poll that utilizes such bad grammar and spelling.

Well, OP never claimed to be scathingly brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 47August 13, 2023 1:07 AM

Although I don't remember much about them, I know that I liked Pollyanna quite a bit. I saw it on tv when Walt would broadcast movies on his show.

by Anonymousreply 48August 13, 2023 1:12 AM

Hayley Mills had some odd twitches while she was young. Scrunching her face up, licking her lips and sticking her tongue out and just plain fidgeting.

by Anonymousreply 49August 13, 2023 3:34 AM

[quote] I saw the Parent Trap when I was about eight years old. This shot of Brian Keith got my attention. I still recall the moment in the movie. I think I saw stars.

Was he given a hot sex scene in the movie?

by Anonymousreply 50August 13, 2023 4:24 AM

Pauline Kael said of her in "Whistle Down the Wind," "Hayley Mills gives her usual lip-licking performance."

Not a Disney movie but Whistle Down the Wind is my favorite Hayley Mills film, also starring Alan Bates; written by her mother. I also liked Tiger Bay, also starring Horst Buchholz. Hayley was an amazing actress and could have done great work if she hadn't hooked up with Disney.

Hayley became better as an actress as an adult. She is superb in the BBC series "The Flame Trees of Thika." There's a great scene where she starts sobbing how much she hates living on a farm in Kenya in one of the early episodes right in front of her terrified daughter.
