Was she a freedom-from-religion martyr- or just an opportunist entrepeneur?

Not a very appealing person, but sometimes the people who are willing to challenge the status quo are like that.

My parents considered Madelyn Murray O'Hair a hero and us kids knew about her from an early age.
My third grade teacher was the town's Methodist minister's wife and on Day 1 of the school year, she read from the Bible and forced us to pray aloud with her before the Pledge of Allegiance. I objected and mentioned O'Hair by name before the coerced prayer in 1972. She sent me to the office where the school secretary called my mom. Since we live across the street from the school, Mom was there inside of three minutes. I sat in the hall and teachers poked their heads out of their classrooms because of the yelling my mom was doing inside the principal's office.
The next morning, Mrs. Xxx informed the class that because my mother complained, there would be no more prayers in class. That was the first time I remember feeling uncomfortable in class; at recess some of the kids screamed at me. Mrs. Xxx stood on the playground watching the scene and smirked.
