OMG!

Gerbils can be so unsanitary.

by Anonymousreply 1February 19, 2023 3:51 AM

Aids ?

by Anonymousreply 2February 19, 2023 3:55 AM

The Covids?

by Anonymousreply 3February 19, 2023 3:56 AM

Did he get his pneumonia shots?

by Anonymousreply 4February 19, 2023 3:58 AM

How do people still think he's straight?

by Anonymousreply 5February 19, 2023 4:02 AM

Richard, how inconsiderate to die at the weekend.

by Anonymousreply 6February 19, 2023 4:03 AM

I have no idea why, since I'm not a passionate fan, but it would just seem huge to me if Richard Gere died.

by Anonymousreply 7February 19, 2023 4:04 AM

Is the gerbil okay???

by Anonymousreply 8February 19, 2023 4:07 AM

Oh that can be quite serious.

by Anonymousreply 9February 19, 2023 4:08 AM

Once you hit a certain age, you should get a pneumonia vaccine.

You can significantly reduce the chances of a lot of very bad things with vaccines after you hit 50 that they don't really warn you about: Shingles, pneumonia, tetanus (you do need to get a booster for this periodically).

by Anonymousreply 10February 19, 2023 4:10 AM

Is there a pneumonia vaccine R10? First I've hear of it. Or do you mean flu vaccine?

by Anonymousreply 11February 19, 2023 4:20 AM

[quote]Is there a pneumonia vaccine [R10]?

It says 65 and older, but getting one sooner rather than later may be worthwhile.

And he never got that Oscar nomination.

by Anonymousreply 13February 19, 2023 4:30 AM

[quote] Is there a pneumonia vaccine [R10]? First I've hear of it.

Yes. Doctors have pushed their older patients to get it for many, many years. It’s routine.

by Anonymousreply 14February 19, 2023 4:36 AM

Meh. I was hospitalized twice in one year with Community Acquired Pneumonia. And I'm 25 years younger than Gere. (And I'm twice as handsome and my dick is 7 times as long).

But the second time I was hospitalized, they really freaked me out. First a nurse was doing the intake and she casually says "and you have HIV?" 😳

I said, no, I take PrEP and if you look at my medical labs, you'll see my last HIV test was negative. And she said OK, but then the attending doc who never even examined me added HIV to my medical history and wrote in the notes "Pt denies hx of HIV".

When I was released I had to contact my primary care doc and say "they listed HIV on my medical history, but unless I was tested without consent AND not informed of the results, I'm HIV negative to my knowledge". My doc removed HIV from my medical history, but I had to file an appeal to have the ER doc change his notes that said I had HIV (and was denying it.) I even went in and got tested for my PrEP check up two months early just so I could prove and have a lab report that I was negative.

Weird thing was, I had pneumonia, yeah, I felt pretty crappy, but I wasn't in acute distress. And the ER was really crowded, but instead of waiting my turn, they rushed me back and started an IV the moment I walked in the door. I think they thought I had HIV and was had PCP because they saw the Truvada listed in my current meds list OR (and this is kinda what I think really happened): they saw that I had a prescription for Truvada (2 ARVs) and had been prescribed Paxlovid (which contains another ARV) and they may have had a query that looked at my info, saw that I had been prescribed THREE ARVs and a data error occurred and auto-coded me as HIV+.

The reason I suspected the latter was because it was a hospital I had worked at previously, I had worked in the data center and worked in EPIC, the electronic medical records system, and we were always creating queries to try to catch things before they slipped through the cracks. If Paxlovid hadn't contained ritonavir, *I* very easily could have been the guy that created that query as a safety net to help identify potential HIV cases that weren't documented. That's basically what we did all day and were there for.

by Anonymousreply 25February 19, 2023 9:17 AM

Pneumonia can be caused by a wide variety of bacteria, viruses and fungi in the air we breathe.

The pneumonia vaccine helps protect against serious infections caused by 23 types of pneumococcal bacteria, but not all of them.

If you get it and are fortunate/smart enough to get to the ER, they need to collect a culture to confirm the presence of the specific pathogen causing the illness. This will indicate what course of treatment (specific antibiotic) is needed.

No, but he's on Prep.

by Anonymousreply 30February 19, 2023 10:03 AM

R5 How do people still think he's gay?

by Anonymousreply 31February 19, 2023 10:27 AM

If Richard Gere is gay he's got a funny way of going about it.

After two marriages ended in divorce (Cindy Crawford and Carey Lowell) , Mr. Gere dived back into that pool and wed a woman nearly twenty years younger and proceeded to breed more children.

In any event entire family came down with some sort of bug but only RG was in hospital (briefly). He's since been discharged and recuperating at wherever family is staying in Mexico.

by Anonymousreply 38February 19, 2023 11:26 AM

Actually r38 I play a little game with Gere — I guess before I open the thread how many posts in before a gerbil is invoked. I lost on this one, as I had guessed four.

I do the same thing with BRF threads — how many posts in before Meghan is invoked….

by Anonymousreply 39February 19, 2023 11:38 AM

[quote] My doc removed HIV from my medical history, but I had to file an appeal to have the ER doc change his notes that said I had HIV (and was denying it.)

R15 I never interpreted a doctor saying in notes "denies" meant they thought you were lying.

It seemed like regular jargon to me - means "I asked the patient and the patient said no." But yes, for something like HIV I'd want them to be very clear, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 40February 19, 2023 1:49 PM

The home at R37 may be the home of his that was near Martha Stewart's estate - he appeared briefly on that gardening show she had on HGTV during the pandemic, the one with her smokin' hot gardener.

[quote]It seemed like regular jargon to me - means "I asked the patient and the patient said no." But yes, for something like HIV I'd want them to be very clear, I guess.

Oh, yeah, I totally get that. I've seen plenty of things like "Pt denies history of chronic shortness of breath" and (on other charts) "Pt denies being pregnant" documented..

My notes said something like 50 yo male with HIV disease presented with pneumonia.

And then Pt denies history of HIV.

And I'm sure he's the one who added HIV as a diagnosis to my electronic medical record. If it was just listed in the notes, it wouldn't have been in my overall profile.

Getting it removed in one place was easy, but I still had a set of notes that any future provider at the same hospital (and the hospital is large system where I also get primary care, have seen a pulmonologist since, have had to see an audiologist) could review and would see "50 yo male with HIV". I didn't want to have to continually explain that or, worse, have ANOTHER doc see the notes and add it back again.

by Anonymousreply 58February 21, 2023 6:34 AM

Stop trying to make it all about you, R44/56! There's a pneumonic gerbil fighting to survive in Mexico, and all you can think about is [italic]your[italic/]medical history? We should be organising an Air Evac for the gerbil, and lighting incense for Richard.

by Anonymousreply 59February 21, 2023 7:16 AM

Fucking formatting fail. Clearly, I'm very distressed!

by Anonymousreply 60February 21, 2023 7:17 AM

Richard Gere sold his Pound Ridge pile and moved into "smaller" quarters elsewhere. Either way don't think he's bothered by his small children running about. Both homes are palatial and come with decent amount of grounds. Plus you know they've got help...

Richard Gere knew what he was doing or wanted marrying and subsequently breeding in rather quick succession of his new wife. He had children from previous marriage so it's not like there was any need to produce more.

by Anonymousreply 63February 21, 2023 7:48 AM

"I’m going to dress as a candy-striper and sneak in there, I swear to GOD!"

You're bit late dearie; Mr. Gere was only in hospital for 24 hours, then discharged home to further recuperate.

by Anonymousreply 64February 21, 2023 8:01 AM

The gerbil rumor was started by Sylvester Stallone who was jealous of Gere.

Maybe he expected Gere to service him like Travolta did?

by Anonymousreply 65February 21, 2023 8:06 AM

Gere kissed me outside a bar in the early 80s. I’m female and he was sexy.

by Anonymousreply 66February 21, 2023 8:08 AM

R15, methinks thou doest protest waaaaaay too much. If you have to take a half-dozen ARVs, you've got the HIV.

by Anonymousreply 67February 21, 2023 8:10 AM

r66 Another lucky bitch! Am very jealous.

by Anonymousreply 68February 21, 2023 8:12 AM

I agree with the posters saying that if he’s gay he has a very funny way of showing it (I really don’t think he is).

It’s also amazing how much the pandemic shed people. That picture from 2019 he still looks like “himself” and pretty good, that most recent picture at his shit movie screening he looks embalmed (as he does in the movie itself, which would have been a year ago).

Really hope he’s ok I don’t think I’m ready for a Richard Gere death just yet.

by Anonymousreply 69February 21, 2023 3:17 PM

I imagine the gay rumors are because he played a gay character on Broadway in 1979.

by Anonymousreply 70February 21, 2023 3:51 PM

The photos his wife shared from their vacation looks like Gere with his daughter and grandson - not wife and son. But that's when you get when there's a 34 year difference between the spouses.

by Anonymousreply 71February 21, 2023 3:56 PM

[quote]I’m going to dress as a candy-striper and sneak in there,

I was a candy stripper once.

by Anonymousreply 72February 21, 2023 4:04 PM

Yeah, that must be it r70. Sure.

by Anonymousreply 73February 21, 2023 4:07 PM

There’s no way to keep anything secret now. If Gere had male lovers in the past they’d have come forth by now.

by Anonymousreply 74February 21, 2023 10:56 PM

Not good. Pneumonia in a person his age often leads to a bzd end.

by Anonymousreply 75February 21, 2023 11:23 PM

Sure r73, THATs why you didn’t get along.

by Anonymousreply 76February 21, 2023 11:31 PM

I'm sure he took advantage of the casting couch when young and he seems like a sexually liberated soul but ultimately he preferred women, wed them and procreated. And given how outspoken he is about social causes and marginalized groups and I doubt he'd be closeted. So probably bi leaning straight.

by Anonymousreply 77February 21, 2023 11:33 PM

R77 my friend who is an actor said he would have used the casting couch willingly if it guaranteed he would be seen as a whore and not a closet case. And thus he never became A list. He said there’s no guarantee it will all work out, the productions might flop and then you always have the daunting task of being labeled a hypocrite. He’s super hippy, and sexually free but chose to live with integrity.

by Anonymousreply 78February 21, 2023 11:43 PM

R77 that sounds spot on. He also did a lot of drugs back in the day which tends to go with all of what you’re saying.

He is also a huge flirt with everyone - women especially but he doesn’t really discriminate . He would flirt in the chair in front of him if he had to. I’m friendly with a few women who report for digital outlets at events (screenings etc)

by Anonymousreply 79February 21, 2023 11:50 PM

R66 That is the stuff dreams are made of.

by Anonymousreply 80February 22, 2023 4:08 AM

The gerbil had no comment.

by Anonymousreply 81February 22, 2023 4:11 AM

Question to the OP: Did you MEAN ‘Bearking’ or ‘Breaking’? Cause for a while now I seriously was trying to figure out how Richard Gere was associated with bears.

by Anonymousreply 82February 22, 2023 4:20 AM

Is he dead yet?

by Anonymousreply 83February 22, 2023 4:24 AM

I love the poster above who thinks being married to Cindy C or Carey Lowell was proof of his being straight.

You must think the Clooney marriage is just dandy, too!

He seems as gay as a jay bird to me in Goodbar and most other things he’s filmed. Has an angry cold fish chemistry with women.

by Anonymousreply 84February 22, 2023 4:38 AM

I for one never understood the appeal of Richard Gere. He's short, has a huge nose and tiny eyes and no charm whatsoever. I never thought he was any great shakes as an actor. So what was the big deal?

by Anonymousreply 85February 22, 2023 4:47 AM

Its the tiny piglet eyes that turn me off him. Dustin Hoffman has the same creepy piglet eyes.

by Anonymousreply 86February 22, 2023 5:26 AM

R85 male actors have never had to be conventionally good looking to be considered sex symbols . Especially from 70s onward.

by Anonymousreply 87February 22, 2023 5:41 AM

I guess his appeal is he looked like rough trade who could turn stylish and sophisticated. His breakthrough role was as a male prostitute. Someone women could "tame."

by Anonymousreply 88February 22, 2023 10:13 AM

His chemistry with Jodie in SOMERSBY was off the charts!!!

by Anonymousreply 89February 22, 2023 12:14 PM

R84 Why would Cindy Crawford date all these men, that you consider gay?

by Anonymousreply 90February 22, 2023 12:27 PM

R71 I was waiting for the ageist comment about the age gap between him and his wife. His wife is a 40 year old grown woman and she dosent owe you an explanation.

by Anonymousreply 91February 22, 2023 12:32 PM

If the younger partner is 30 and beyond, I don't quite understand how they can be a victim in a relationship with a much older person. I can understand late teens and early 20s because of lack of maturity and world experience. Mainly with Americans.

by Anonymousreply 92February 22, 2023 12:36 PM

R56, you know this is a message board, right? Not some platform for you to write your thesis.
