Which movie did you go and see more than once? I'll tell you mine later. Don't want to make this just about me.

Jurassic Park. I had friends who saw Titanic multiple times. Once was more than enough for me.

š½ When I was young, you could actually spend the entire day in the theater watching the same movie over and over again. We also went to Arrow Drugs before the movie to buy our candy and treats, or brought them from home. The price for junk food at the theater was absolutely outrageous.

Yeah, when I was a teen, there were a few movies I'd see over and over. I'd ride my bike to the theater on weekend afternoons and get a cheap-ass matinee ticket, to see some actor I'd developed a crush on.
One of the many benefits of living in the days when kids were allowed out on their own, you could go see your crush in a movie theater without your mother along!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 15, 2023 12:41 AM |
I would always see a movie at least twice, if I liked the movie. You can't take everything in with just one viewing.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 15, 2023 12:42 AM |
We loved the old time horror classics. In those days, it wasn't about blood and gore, it was about using your imagination about what was happening that you never actually saw on the screen. Scared the hell out of myself on many occasions. Nowadays, today's horror films make the classic look like cartoons.

R7... I hear you, I used to see quite a number of movies over and over in the theater, that is how I spent my "entertainment money". If I loved a movie for all of it, the actors, storyline, cinematography, music, etc. I simply COULD NOT wait until it came on cable and the experience of seeing it on a big screen was a MUST for me...
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 15, 2023 12:55 AM |
I never could watch movies over and over again. The only ones I'm sure I went to more than once were "Another Country", "A Room with a View" and "Maurice".

Our neighborhood theater in Little Italy always featured two movies for 25Ā¢ on Sunday Afternoons. After stuffing ourselves with my Grampa's spaghetti and meatballs, that's where we headed. My Gramps always had little bags of Italian cookies to take with us, and gave us 10Ā¢ for treats. Those were the days of penny candy and giant candy bars for 5Ā¢.
Loved Sudays. And I sure miss my Grampa.

I saw That's Entertainment about 21 times because I worked at another theater and I could get passes. It's a wonderful stoner movie on the big screen. After that many times we had favorite lines like Liza's "Thank *God* for film!" (in her Peretti kidney bean necklace and equestrian belt buckle). You also start to notice things like the strap breaks on a chorus girl behind Gable in Puttin' on the Ritz. And there are two young girls seemingly batting a ball( or birdie) behind Chevalier during Little Girls, but they're actually not batting anything.

James Dietz (1960-1987)
Bodybuilder James Dietz was one of the more surprising deaths of an actor with a big movie coming out ā he was a big, strapping, healthy-seeming guy and just 27 years old when he died April 22, 1987, just over three months before the August premiere of the Madonna (b. 1958) vehicle Who's That Girl.
In the film, Dietz plays Bucky, a hunk who catches the eye of a deb Wendy Worthington (Haviland Morris, b.1959) who is the fiancƩe of the film's male lead (Griffin Dunne, b. 1955). He gets some good laughs, too.
His scenes were lightweight and charming. His death, from Wolfe Parkinson syndrome, an irregular heartbeat, affected many of those around him, as is demonstrated by this thread of people reminiscing about him 23 years after he died.

small voice: āStaying Alive.ā - I donāt know why - I loved that cheesy movie!!! . Then a few years later I think that I went to see Dirty Dancing at least once a week for a whole summer. ā¦. I think it was in 1972 when I made my dad cry - The Sound of Music was in re-release at the Hastings Ranch theatre and you would have thought that Santa Clause was running the projector - I talked about it non stop and acted it out non stop ( my mom had already taken me twice) until my dad hit tears of frustration and took me and my little school friend Patty the next day - mind you my Dad looked like Tony Soprano. ā¦ā¦. Years later I drove my green Volvo out to the Rosemead theatre three Saturday afternoons in a row and sat by myself in Terms of Endearment - and I would cry and cry ā¦ā¦.

I also watched āPretty Womanā and (also like a previous poster) āContactā in the cinema multiple times. There are others, Iām sure.

The Sound of Music

Across the year it played in the theaters, I saw the original 'Star Wars' over a hundred times (back in the 50's, my mom had worked for the theater owner, and he let me in to see it for free as many times as I wanted).
I probably saw 'The Empire Strikes Back' (1980) a couple dozen times (different theater; I had to pay for these).

Not over and over, but a few movies I saw twice. I saw Star Wars: a New Hope opening night with friends. I took my little sister to see it weeks later. All the President's Men because I was interested in the how Pacula used lighting to induce paranoia.

Not really by choice, but I think I saw Mary Poppins in a movie theatre at least seven or eight times.
My parents brought us kids to see it at Grauman's Chinese in Hollywood when it first came out. .. Not long after, it began playing at the local movie theatre near where we lived in Santa Monica, so we went to see it again. .. Then, two or three friends of mine wanted to see it, so I went with each of them as well (same theatre).
That would have been far too many times already, but then about nine months later, we went on vacation to visit relatives in three different Midwestern states. "Mary Poppins" had finally made it to these podunk towns. and with nothing else to do and only one theatre in each town, we went to see it with our cousins who were all very excited about seeing the movie for the very first time.
As I recall, they were all very impressed that I could sing "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" by heart.

We would stay at a campground on the Cape across from the Wellfleet drive-in -- one rainy summer week we saw Arthur three times.
I always go see The French Connection, Singing In The Rain, The Nights of Cabiria, Breathless and The Taking of Pelham One Two Three whenever they screen at Film Forum. More recently I've seen both Diva and The Plot Against Harry there twice.

When I was at college in Boston, I was so exhausted all the time (I thought I was supposed to be exhausted, it was college). There was a theater within walking distance that was running "Harold and Maude" all day every day. I went every day for weeks, because I didn't have the strength to do much else. I finally went to the doctor and was diagnosed with what was then called "infectious hepatitis" and everyone around me had to get injected with gamma-globulin shots. I have no idea how many times I saw "Harold and Maude" or how many showings I slept through.

I was a voracious cineaste as a teen so haunted all the venues to see all kinds of cinema. Colleges, retro houses, museums, galleries, festivals. You couldn't see much of what I was seeing anywhere but such places. This continued through college. Back then many big colleges had their own celluloid collection. I got a student job that gave me access to the film collection and I projected some of my favorite movies all the time, just for myself or a friend. And in NYC in the early 80s there was an explosion of cinema culture and all kinds of clubs and galleries were projecting movies. I met Bill Landis and was going to his screenings at clubs and I got friendly with the weirdos of underground cinema and their little fiefdoms film centres. Mike Kuchar was a sweetie to me and taught me optical printing and how to get my freak on.

The last movie I saw twice at a movie theatre was Black Swan. I loved the pitch, the pace, the casting (esp Barbara Hershey and Winona Ryder), the lines ("Attack it!! Attack it! Attack it!", "It's MY turn!" "Did you fuck him?"), and the fever dream quality of it all.

Mary Poppins, Sound of music, Star Wars, Grease, Diva, Choose Me, A weird mix but from age 3!I was obsessed with MP and SoM. The Star Wars came out and for whatever reason I went with many different groups of friends on consecutive weekend. Grease was another musical obsession. Then in college in the ā80s I discovered more Art Films and got obsessed with DIVA!!

r19 Tootsie was the first movie I have a clear recollection of going to see with my mother and grandma. My sheer excitement should have told my mom something right then and there. Movies I saw over and over again were Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Temple of Doom, Labrinth, Beetlejuice, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Batman. I saw Terminator 2 more than once also.
