Their Belgian Chocolate is like heaven.
What does DL think about Talenti® Gelato?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 15, 2023 10:55 AM |
Love it, but Talenti is expensive when not on sale. It has a lot of calories, fat, & sugar, so if you'e even thinking about losing weight, don't bother walking down the ice cream aisle. The containers are really helpful for storing all sorts of stuff.

Meh. I’d rather eat Haagen Dazs.

I would enter Chrissie Metz territory if I didn’t put the brakes on this.

Only in North R4

The coconut gelato is a poem, as is the sea salt caramel crunch.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 15, 2023 12:20 AM |
I like the raspberry sorbetto and the pistachio gelato.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 15, 2023 12:24 AM |
I’m the only person on the planet who doesn’t care for any of the flavors. It’s too sweet and doesn’t have enough fat. The mango sorbet is okay.
I’d rather spend my calories on Haagen Dazs Belgian chocolate ice cream, or their coffee. It’s dense, not full of air.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 15, 2023 12:27 AM |
The Talenti Roman Raspberry is food porn. I am having it now.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 15, 2023 12:28 AM |
First of all, and most important of all, it's not gelato.
Gelato is not made with soy lecithin, dextrose, corn syrup and all the other junk Talenti uses. Also, with the exception of a "crema", gelato is not made with eggs.
True gelato is milky, and it melts fast.
The closest American packaged ice cream that sort of reminds me of gelato is Häagen-Daz's 5 ingredient ice cream. They do contain egg but the ingredient list is simple: Milk, cream, sugar, eggs, plus whatever flavoring.
Talenti is junk in comparison.

That BTW is another characteristic of gelato, it is not pumped with air.
Talenti to me tastes sickly sweet and greasy.

I agree, the Talenti sorbet is delicious, but has A LOT of sugar and their gelato has too many filler ingredients for all the fat, sugar, and calories it contains. If I'm going to fuck up my diet, Haagen Daz is the best in the ice cream marketplace, especially if you're buying at full price.

Gimmicky, doesn't live up to the hype

I didn't like the texture. Prefer Haagen Dazs (vanilla Swiss almond & dulce de leche). The HD bars are no longer good, though. They changed the bars a few years ago. Avoid.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 15, 2023 12:41 AM |
They used to be fantastic when it debuted, but then they changed their formula to cut costs. It's now loaded with filler crap, but the high prices remain. I don't eat them anymore b/c of those two things.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 15, 2023 12:42 AM |
Roman Raspberry & Alphonso Mango are their best flavors. Haagen Daz remains superior.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 15, 2023 12:45 AM |
Maybe some people don’t know what real gelato is like. I still prefer Haagen-Dazs, but real gelato is still better than Talenti. I tried the Van Leeuwen stuff and wasn’t impressed, either.
HD used to have a honey vanilla flavor that was heaven.

R18, that's probably true that Americans (including me) don't know what gelato is supposed to be like.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 15, 2023 1:20 AM |
I agree with those who prefer Haagen-Daz. If I'm going to have the sugar and the calories, I'm not going to waste it on Talenti,. I tried a few of their flavors. The containers look pretty but the taste doesn't measure up. An underwhelming gelato substitute that doesn't measure up to real gelato.

i do not like it. It has a sour plastic taste to it. Why do they use plastic at all? This company pisses me off. I know, you can use the paper kind because literately every other ice cream company does. Maybe get a bamboo paper container and be completely environmentally friendly.
hate this company. Using plastic makes ZERO SENSE.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 15, 2023 1:32 AM |
No, it does not taste like Italian Gelato at all. The company is insulting Italy. Italy does have delicious Gelato. And I always wonder why, this could not be done here in USA. How do Americans fuck up Ice Cream?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 15, 2023 1:35 AM |
It's not even a good-quality plastic container that you can re-use. I tried pouring something warm (not hot) in it and it became mis-shapened. Also, I don't think it's air-tight, so you can't really use it for serious storage.

Haagen Dazs is not as tasty as it once was, excluding the strawberry which is still delicious
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 15, 2023 1:48 AM |
The best ice cream Häagen-Dazs ever made was Elberta Peach. They discontinued it decades ago and I still haven’t gotten over it.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 15, 2023 2:07 AM |
We just get them little swirly cups with the wood spoon. Don’t need that fancy eye-talian stuff. No! The birds can have it.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 15, 2023 2:14 AM |
Italian gelato is wonderful and real honest American style ice cream is just as wonderful too. The problem is the crappy ingredients some companies use to cut costs. Milk, cream, cane sugar, eggs, vanilla or whatever...that's all you need.

This thread seems to have been taken over by the Haagen Dazs lobby. Next time you're in your grocer's freezer pick up a pint of Haagen Dazs and then compare it to a pint of either Talenti or Ben & Jerrys or Jeni's. Haagen Dazs is all air. You can feel the heft in Talenti and Ben & Jerrys and Jeni's.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 15, 2023 2:36 AM |
R25, I think I remember that peach Haagen Dazs.
I did a side-by-side taste test of HD cherry vanilla and Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia. The HD cherry vanilla was better (but was lacking the dark chocolate chunks that Cherry Garcia had).
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 15, 2023 2:40 AM |
R28, you agree that Talenti is inferior, though, right? Ben and Jerry’s is pretty good, too. I don’t need a lot of stuff in my ice cream, but they do it right, if you like combos and goodies in it.
If you let a carton of, say, Breyers, melt, the volume of air mixed in becomes evident. No, that doesn’t happen with Haagen-Dazs. Ben and Jerry’s doesn’t whip a lot of air in, either.
Don’t know about Jeni’s. Maybe I’ll try it.
