Brando was a sociopath.

Men? It's much easier to list famous women: Angelina Jolie, Winona Ryder...

According to the Mayo Clinic, signs and symptoms may include:

[quote]An intense fear of abandonment, even going to extreme measures to avoid real or imagined separation or rejection

[quote]A pattern of unstable intense relationships, such as idealizing someone one moment and then suddenly believing the person doesn't care enough or is cruel

[quote]Rapid changes in self-identity and self-image that include shifting goals and values, and seeing yourself as bad or as if you don't exist at all

[quote]Periods of stress-related paranoia and loss of contact with reality, lasting from a few minutes to a few hours

[quote]Impulsive and risky behavior, such as gambling, reckless driving, unsafe sex, spending sprees, binge eating or drug abuse, or sabotaging success by suddenly quitting a good job or ending a positive relationship

[quote]Suicidal threats or behavior or self-injury, often in response to fear of separation or rejection

[quote]Wide mood swings lasting from a few hours to a few days, which can include intense happiness, irritability, shame or anxiety

[quote]Ongoing feelings of emptiness

[quote]Inappropriate, intense anger, such as frequently losing your temper, being sarcastic or bitter, or having physical fights

Depp and Cage both have gone on bizarre, grandiose spending sprees that put them on the brink of financial ruin: Depp bought that island in the Bahamas, and Cage had a ridiculous pyramid monument to himself built in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1.

Donald Trump

Didn't Depp and Cage at separate times own the infamous LaLaurie mansion in NO?

[quote]Donald Trump

nah - classic narcissist though

by Anonymousreply 20August 27, 2023 5:39 AM

Comedians Pete Davidson, Darrell Hammond and Doug Ferrari have said they've been diagnosed with it.

by Anonymousreply 21August 27, 2023 5:46 AM

Trump is a pathological narcissist. He’s not BPD.

by Anonymousreply 22August 27, 2023 5:48 AM

R19 Cage owned and lived in the murder mansion for a while, but he lost it in a foreclosure. I’ve never heard of Depp having any connection to it.

by Anonymousreply 23August 27, 2023 5:48 AM

I'm pretty sure Nick Cage has bipolar disorder, he's gone on sprees where he'll buy anything or marry his waitress. And I think that Will Smith and Johnny Depp have NPD and not BPD, a case of raging NPD is actually an advantage for someone who wants to claw their way to the top of the Hollywood heap and grab the attention of the world, I think a lot of Hollywood stars over the years have been raging narcissists.

John Lennon and Jim Carrey could well be/have been BPD cases though, both very unstable people. Carrey probably has PTSD or CPTSD as well, his family lost everything and ended up living in a van when he was a kid.

by Anonymousreply 24August 27, 2023 5:53 AM

I'm with R4, Brando was either a raging case of NPD, or a raging Sociopath. Not BPD.

by Anonymousreply 25August 27, 2023 5:55 AM

Carrey seems to have a huge case of ADHD to me.

by Anonymousreply 26August 27, 2023 5:56 AM

Borderline Personality Disorder is overwhelmingly diagnosed in women. It's something like 90% versus men at around 10%.

by Anonymousreply 27August 27, 2023 5:57 AM

R24 What BPD traits did Lennon have? I don’t know much about him aside from him having been a temperamental diva and a wife-beater.

by Anonymousreply 28August 27, 2023 5:57 AM

Was it Johns fault that Yoko wouldnt listen?

by Anonymousreply 29August 27, 2023 6:00 AM

Lennon suffered from most if not all the symptoms listed at the Mayo Clinic website.

by Anonymousreply 30August 27, 2023 6:01 AM

[quote]Borderline Personality Disorder is overwhelmingly diagnosed in women. It's something like 90% versus men at around 10%.

yep, makes me wonder how much of it is 'real' or simply socialized. There's a ton of misdiagnosis going on these days anyway, people claiming everyone and everyone's mother is NPD, Asperger's, ADHD, etc.

by Anonymousreply 31August 27, 2023 6:02 AM

I can’t tell borderlines and narcissists apart because both types supposedly lack a core identity (sense of self), have grandiose thoughts, and are attention-seekers. Bipolar people can also act like that during manic phases. It’s all very confusing.

by Anonymousreply 32August 27, 2023 6:05 AM

I think Charlie Sheed both has Bipolar Disorder, and is a Sociopath.

And I'm not sure about Kanye West, it's obvious that he has both RAGING bipolar disorder and a Cluster B Personality Disorder... but which one??? Narcissist? Borderline? Histrionic?

by Anonymousreply 33August 27, 2023 6:06 AM

"I can’t tell borderlines and narcissists apart because both types supposedly lack a core identity (sense of self), have grandiose thoughts, and are attention-seekers."

DSM criteria aside, I tend to assume that while Borderlines are more likely to be self-destructive, while Narcissists typically destroy others rather than themselves. That's why narcissism is such an advantage in the entertainment industry and politics, those are highly competitive fields where the advantage goes to whoever is the most ruthless and the least self-destructive.

by Anonymousreply 34August 27, 2023 6:15 AM

[quote]Lennon suffered from most if not all the symptoms listed at the Mayo Clinic website.

Ok — I’ve known about the man for decades… never heard any of it except for his anger/emotional deregulation. I’m also shocked that Chris Farley was rumored to be gay. I’m obviously not in celebrity gossip’s inner circle.

by Anonymousreply 35August 27, 2023 6:16 AM

Trump doesn't get clingy/dependent/suicidal. He's all about rage about others not thinking he's the greatest thing ever, and wanting all eyes on him.

by Anonymousreply 36August 27, 2023 6:20 AM

Trump is an absolutely classic malignant Narcissist, the worst-case scenario of NPD.

The world would literally be a better place if he were suicidal or self-destructive, but no such luck.

by Anonymousreply 37August 27, 2023 7:42 AM

[quote] "And I'm not sure about Kanye West, it's obvious that he has both RAGING bipolar disorder and a Cluster B Personality Disorder... but which one??? Narcissist? Borderline? Histrionic?"

Kanye can go ka-fuck himself. But there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that he's severely mentally ill. It's been on full display in the media. Thankfully, I don't hear much about him these days. For now.

by Anonymousreply 38August 27, 2023 8:17 AM

Men are undiagnosed with this for sure. Anyone whose ever had a hard drinking douchebag who liked to toss furniture around during arguments knows they're out there

Can't you Dark Triad Trolls keep this tiresome crap to your little dark corners of the Intertubes?

I always thought Frank Sinatra was bi-polar.

[quote]Johnny Depp is a connoisseur of COCK

No, he isn't, and why would you want him anyway? He's all kinds of gross.

by Anonymousreply 44August 27, 2023 11:30 AM

Dump is a grifter from birth. Read up about his father. Grift. Grift. Grift. No class and cheap.

by Anonymousreply 45August 27, 2023 1:39 PM

Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson strike me as two more cases of Hollywood NPD. Such vast, all-devouring egoes that they aren't content with movie fame, they need religious power as well!

As for BPD... what about Ezra Miller? Or Shia LeBeouf? Miller is batshit, and Shia went through a period of serious instability, where he was getting arrested for assault every other week, although he seems to have learned to stay off the news feed. But Miller... he's batshit...

by Anonymousreply 46August 27, 2023 3:58 PM

Borderline isn't like Manic Depression, there's no genetic predisposition (unless you believe in collective community trauma), it's an aggregate of symptoms of maladaptive behaviors developed to cope with trauma. Women are a larger demographic of diagnosed patients with this disorder, which isn't to say they experience more trauma, but the processing seems to be where the sexes differentiate. It's actually nightmare for those afflicted and their relatives/friends/children because they're infatiguable, succubus, vacuum voids of never ending need, and chaos (often totally imaginary, or a product of self sabotage and a way to NOT deal without the human carnage around themselves), it's worse when MD/BP1/2 are involved with the BPD. The paranoia experienced by MDs is perfect fuel to get them into a state of total breakdown.

Most everyone listed above is really more likely to be Manic depressive bi-polars.

I didn't read the entire thread, so apologies to any posters who cited Aaron Carter.

by Anonymousreply 47August 27, 2023 5:37 PM

I thought we were using the “spectrum” for everyone now? I can’t keep up. Anyway, R16’s symptoms cover most everyone I know.

by Anonymousreply 48August 27, 2023 5:54 PM

Robin Williams

by Anonymousreply 49August 27, 2023 6:15 PM

NOT Robin Williams! He may have been bipolar, and I suspect that he put a lot of energy into keeping sadness and depression at bay. But he was basically a functional person, able to maintain long-term relationships and a high-level career, at least when he wasn't coked out of his gourd.

Seriously, what about Ezra Miller? NOT a functional person!

by Anonymousreply 50August 27, 2023 6:35 PM

Agree with R50 — Robin was an empath who was thoughtful about others when he wasn’t drunk or high. A super-independent guy for most of his adult life. If anything, he was OCD, maybe bi-polar, which manifested into substance abuse. He did become clingy near the end of his life, but that was likely from the effects of Lewy body dementia.

by Anonymousreply 51August 27, 2023 8:10 PM

Marlon Brando for sure. I have it too. We are beautiful creatures who love too hard.

by Anonymousreply 52August 27, 2023 8:14 PM

Keep dreaming.

by Anonymousreply 53August 27, 2023 11:35 PM

All of the people mentioned in this thread are serious drug addicts. I think there are a LOT of people misdiagnosed because of drug addict issues

by Anonymousreply 54August 28, 2023 12:02 AM

R2, good guess.

Neal was magnetic and highly attractive, as are many borderlines.

by Anonymousreply 55August 28, 2023 12:03 AM

Jerry Lewis was an all around hideous person. He sexually abused women, physically and mentally abused his sons, was petty and disrespectful to colleagues then played the victim, had an addiction to opiate pain medication, the list just goes on and on.

by Anonymousreply 56August 28, 2023 1:10 AM

[quote]I think there are a LOT of people misdiagnosed because of drug addict issues

Addiction and mental illness or personality disorders (stuff that means a person is maladjusted) often goes hand in hand. A mentally ill or disordered person will often use drugs to escape their issues.

by Anonymousreply 57August 28, 2023 2:36 AM

Guys like Jerry Lewis seemed like mentally ill products of their era. Mid century men dealt with their internal issues by abusing alcohol, prescription drugs, and their women and children. If they were high-ranking in their jobs, they abused their employees, too.

Nothing could ever be their fault, even though they were swimming in shame. Shame was huge, but never confronted.

by Anonymousreply 58August 28, 2023 3:50 AM

Robin committing suicide after his LBD diagnosis is a testimony to what was left of his mental stability. If I ever receive that diagnosis I will make an early exit, too. It's just common sense.

by Anonymousreply 59August 28, 2023 9:04 PM

I have (well treated) bipolar and I can easily recognise it in other people. Robin Williams I would say 100% had it. One of the many noticable differences between bipolar and borderline I would say is that mostly bipolar is internalised issues while borderline is externalised. There's a lot going on with bipolar that other people just don't see because it's hidden. With borderline it is usually immediately affecting others while with bipolar you have to get pretty well into an episode before it seriously affects other people (which it definitely does at that point).

by Anonymousreply 60August 28, 2023 10:00 PM

"Mid century men dealt with their internal issues by abusing alcohol, prescription drugs, and their women and children."

Honey, they still do! How do you think all the straight guys who believe in toxic masculinity, who will shame any other man who spends time with his own kids or seeks help for his issues, how do you think they cope with their own inner turmoil?

Yup, it's still alcohol, pills, and beating their women and children.

by Anonymousreply 61August 28, 2023 10:57 PM

Most famous people (not just men) have NPD, BPD and/or Bipolar in some combination. I would say it's probably higher than 85%. And then most of them breed/raise another generation of the same.

by Anonymousreply 62August 29, 2023 6:22 PM

More like are there any stars who don't have a narcissistic complex?

What is the most textbook case of a male BPD? I'm thinking Nic Cage.

by Anonymousreply 63August 30, 2023 7:23 PM

Again, R63, I think Cage's peculiarities have more to do with Bipolar Disorder than a personality disorder. A person can have both, but I don't think he's textbook at all.

by Anonymousreply 64August 30, 2023 11:25 PM

I think Mickey Rourke is BPD for sure. Crazy cunt.

by Anonymousreply 65August 31, 2023 11:08 PM

Oh yeah... someone else suggests Prince Harry on one of the many threads about him.

Seriously, is THAT what's wrong with him?, I read his book, and according to his own account, he's a massive psychological mess, so much so that I can't put a name to his chief problem. He's not just spoiled and stupid, although he's obviously both, he's both weirdly fond of following orders, and utterly blind to other people's needs, insights, and motivations. Even the bubble he grew up in mystifies him, he still doesn't understand why his whole family and all the royal staffers didn't devote themselves to making him happy, but his inability to understand anything in the real world is downright pathological.

by Anonymousreply 66September 2, 2023 5:27 AM

I think you've nailed it R66. I read that book as well, and he seems to be conditioned that way, and also doesn't seem to understand that most people just don't feel sorry for him, yet he keeps on talking making everything about himself. He desperately clings to Meghan, and I think it would absolutely destroy him if she left him. I shouldn't feel sorry for him, because of his privilege and all, but I do at times.

by Anonymousreply 68September 2, 2023 1:18 PM

This thread is all kinds of crazy. Only a few of you seem to understand Borderline Personality Disorder.

by Anonymousreply 69September 2, 2023 1:46 PM

Severe GAD, acute can mimic several of the symptoms of BPD. Particularly fears of abandonment and sometimes losing reality. In my own case, I am pretty sure I have some kind of neurodivergent condition as well.

My ex tried to pin BPD on me, which was bullshit. He was the one with it— he was so full of red flags and I wasn’t. Only one was that I had to sneak out from my parents house to go on dates.

by Anonymousreply 70September 2, 2023 3:24 PM

BPD

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) can affect both men and women, but the presentation of symptoms may vary between genders. Some characteristics of borderline personality in men may include:

1. Intense Emotions: Men with BPD often experience intense and rapidly shifting emotions, such as anger, sadness, and anxiety.

2. Impulsivity: They may engage in impulsive behaviors like reckless driving, substance abuse, or risky sexual encounters.

3. Unstable Relationships: Difficulty in maintaining stable and healthy relationships due to fear of abandonment, idealization and devaluation of others, and emotional volatility.

4. Identity Issues: Struggles with self-identity, leading to frequent changes in goals, values, or career choices.

5. Mood Swings: Frequent mood swings and difficulty in regulating emotions.

6. Self-Harm or Suicidal Behavior: Men with BPD may engage in self-harming behaviors or have suicidal thoughts or attempts.

7. Intense Fear of Abandonment: A strong fear of rejection or abandonment, often resulting in efforts to avoid real or perceived abandonment.

8. Paranoia or Dissociation: Experiencing episodes of dissociation or paranoid thoughts during times of stress.

9. Impaired Self-Esteem: A fluctuating and unstable self-esteem, often depending on external factors and validation from others.

10. Chronic Feelings of Emptiness: Persistent feelings of emptiness and boredom.

It's important to note that not all men with borderline traits will exhibit all of these characteristics, and the severity of symptoms can vary widely. BPD can be effectively treated with therapy, such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) or cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), along with medication in some cases.
