MGF Magazine - A young 1980's man's magazine I subscribed to in college, titled 'Men's Guide to Fashion'. Though aimed at the 'straight guys' in their 20s-30s, it was mostly cute guys in their 20s and 30s barely in clothes. They had grooming tips about combing your pubic bush and chest ('Manscaping' wasn't in yet) and health tips on how to put on a condom. It was very gay with a straight curtain over the gay vibes.
Their advice column was mostly about gay sex of the 'my buddy at the gym said he wanted to suck me off - what do I do ?' to which the advice columnist would answer, 'It may not be because he's gay...he just may feel 'close' to you.'

Date Nut Bread ! There was a time in the 60s - 90s when you could buy a delicious loaf of date nut bread in any Supermarket. Thomas' was one of the best brands. Slice it up and smother it in cream cheese - delicious for breakfast or a snack. No one seems to make it anymore - haven't found it in a store in decades (someone once said it's because dates are so expensive in the past 20-25 years).

Interesting (hopefully) trivia re "Mothers Cookies". In the early 80s I worked for the attorneys for the owners of Mothers Cookies, in San Diego. I was home from college on break and microwaved something to eat on a Le Menu plate my mom had washed and saved. Ate the food and thought, “Ugh, something tastes weird. Oh well.” Washed the plate, put it back. Same thing the next day. And the next. I assumed it was something I was doing wrong with the microwave. Until my mom was home and in the kitchen and saw me loading up food on a Le Menu plate and laughs. “Honey, we use those plates for the cat’s food!”
Oh, that’s why everything tastes like shit on them.

Kudos granola bars. They were delicious and good size in the 80s and early 90s but sometime around the mid-to-late 90s they shrank. I didn't like the smaller size, so stopped getting them. Then they disappeared completely.

Pastorelli pizza kits in the original box. I'm not saying they were especially good, but they were fun and easy to make, and the box was still almost exactly like the one in the picture into the late 1980s. There was a date nut bread, it was round and made with dark flour, or maybe it was molasses. Anyway it was in supermarkets beginning in the Fall until maybe February, and I loved it. I would smear cream cheese on it, and eat half of it in one sitting. It was rich, and sticky and delicious. And they announced they were going out of business and retiring and the little round breads wrapped in cellophane were no more. I still miss them. They were discontinued about 8-10 years ago.

More votes for Milkshake candy bars and Thomas's Date nut loaf. I don't know if my date nut loaf would taste as good. People were raving about Stouffer's lasagna. I was not impressed. I used to like the little frozen pizza rolls which were delicious. I don't think they make them anymore. At least the brand I liked. Tried another recently and they were terrible.
Marie Calendar's pot pies are becoming more starchy. They were good once. And Hostess was once wonderful especially Yankee Doodles. The last time I tried them years ago they were awful. I don't think my taste buds have changed because there is still stuff that is as good as I remember.

-Hoods cocoa-powder covered “Chippety-Choclatey” vanilla ice cream bars on a stick with a delicious slide of chocolate bar inserted in the middle.
-U Need A Biscuit soda crackers, which my mom used to make the best simple turkey stuffing with basically only just also celery, other seasonings and cooked mushrooms.
-Along with previous poster, MacDonald’s salads!
-Qwik-Make Pancakes in a pint-sized carton that you simply poured out and that were so delicious and easy to use/make, sold under the former “Aunt Jemina” brand first in frozen form needing defrosting and then finally refrigerator-ready relatively shortly before being finally discontinued.

Back in the 80s Domino's Pizza had these fantastic deli sandwiches on their menu. Nothing like the sandwiches they have now, these were cold cuts with fresh shredded lettuce and tomato on a hoagie roll. I always got the ham and cheese but there was also an Italian style and maybe a turkey and cheese. They were delicious but I suppose didn't sell well enough to justify keeping them on the menu since the ingredients didn't translate to their other menu items.

Penis-shaped gummies. Which, if you look at them closely, sort of resemble what they're advertised as: lighthouse shaped gummies.
They were great for gifting to people who didn't look at them too closely. An older colleague put a bowl out on her desk and invited everyone to have some "lighthouses." With predictable results.
The best response I heard was from her boss: "This is what lighthouses look like now?"

R212 I'm from a Detroit suburb in Michigan, and Sanders was everything. We'd walk to their store, they had a long counter with those round seats a little kid could spin on, and we'd order Sanders hot fudge sundaes or cream puff hot fudge sundaes. It was heaven. Their chocolate bumpy cake was so rich and good! I know I can order the hot fudge sauce on Amazon, now, and I know that Sanders salted caramels are for sale at Costco, but they had a f ull line of baked goods, and cakes and ice cream and toppings and they were the absolute best. Sometimes we'd get a gallon of their vanilla ice cream and drop a couple of scoops into a glass of V ernor's ginger ale, and make Boston Coolers. Sorry for the rapturous post, but you brought back a lot of memories.

R236, I'm not sure because I can't remember when the anti-MSG nonsense was, but I doubt it since other Campbell soups seemed the same. The tomato bisque soup went from being so sweet, tomato-y, thick, smooth (except for the tomato bits), and appetizing - I could literally eat it from the can with a spoon if I was too lazy to wash a pot and bowl - to having an off, kind of metallic taste and a thinner texture.

R277 Perhaps consider purchasing the cologne deodorants? They give you the sample vials when you do. I've found a few new ones I quite like, and I'm as picky as you are, having loved the old formulas.

Faberge' made a men's fragrance that was sublime. It went off the market, must have been back in the early 70s and I've not seen it since. I think it was just called Faberge' for Men. Does anyone else remember it? I bought as much as I could once I realized it was discontinued but by then it was nearly impossible to find.

Record changers, although that surely would be a niche market these days. Oh well, plenty of existing ones still around that can be restored.

Close-Up is still available, I saw it at Dollar Tree. The DT stock is probably from Canada and/or India.
Years ago, I bought an interesting blue liquid gel Close-Up in small squeeze bottles, that was from Japan. I got a few bottle at a NYC liquidator store.

I LOVED puffed rice. I find this very strange now. Thanks for the reminder about my favorite cereal while growing up. I'd forgotten about it and now I'm going to attempt to find some!

Lancome Aroma Tonic Technically this was a ladies fragrance but it was very fresh, fruity and fun (just like me).
