What was Gabriel(le) Carteris’/ Andrea Zuckerman's greatest challenge?

Gabriel(le) Carteris is still, miraculously, with us. As we remember her and her indelible teen drama character, Andrea Zuckerman from [italic]Beverly Hills, 90210[/italic], we should reflect on the many challenges she faced. What was the greatest challenge she had to overcome?

(And The Peach Pit cancelling their senior discount [bold][italic]DOESN’T[/italic][/bold] count; they have since restored it after a unconvincingly staged protest.)

by Anonymousreply 1February 13, 2023 7:16 PM

The hit and run was a low point, but the out of character pregnancy storyline was worse.

by Anonymousreply 2February 13, 2023 7:19 PM

Her pregnancy storyline and quicky marriage to Jesse was season 4

Her extra marital affair storyline with a married doctor was season 5

And boy did they drag that storyline out...

by Anonymousreply 3February 13, 2023 7:24 PM

Her wardrobe was her greatest challenge. The other girls were dressed sexy/cute and she was always in mom jeans and oversized blazers.

Pluto TV has the '90210' channel, and I watched the spring dance ep the other day. (The one where Brenda and Kelly unknowingly buy the same B&W dress.) Andrea skips the dance because Brandon went with Kelly, but then she decides to show up at the last minute after having a hallucination about killing Spring Queen Kelly Taylor. She definitely looked more like a chaperone at the dance once she arrived.

They completely ruined Andrea’s character by having her get pregnant and then marrying as a sophomore in college. How trashy! It went completely against what her character was about the first few seasons. That nerdy virgin school paper editor Andrea would NEVER have been an out-of-wedlock mother at 19!

by Anonymousreply 31February 13, 2023 9:17 PM

I hated that pregnancy storyline.

So Gina Rodriguez is having a geriatric pregnancy?

by Anonymousreply 34February 13, 2023 9:39 PM

R34 Yup, a pregnancy over the age 35 falls into that category. Gina Rodriguez having a baby at 38 isn't as bad as Hilary Swank being pregnant in her late 40s.

I think Rodriguez and Swank froze their eggs years ago and probably did IVF.

by Anonymousreply 35February 13, 2023 10:08 PM

Wait, Gina is 38? Wasn’t she just a teenager on Jane the Virgin not that long ago?

by Anonymousreply 36February 13, 2023 10:11 PM

They totally should have owned up to her age in the show. It should have come out that she had been doing undercover research for an MTV style show featuring real teens and what they talk about and what they like. They could have really done something with this… and the betrayal the others felt when they found out they’d been lied to. And the consequences that she faced for getting too involved in her research.

by Anonymousreply 37February 13, 2023 10:12 PM

It should have come out that she was an undercover cop involved in the 21 Jump Street initiative and a NARC. This could’ve been a crossover with 21 Jump Street.

Steve Sanders invited the gang over to his house for dinner, but Andrea made an excuse and didn’t come.

Rush’s father sent Andrea away to give birth at a convent. She gave birth to a son, who was adopted by Steve’s father and stepmother.

Andrea Zuckerman is Steve Sanders’ mother.

She entered West Beverly under an assumed name to keep an eye on her son.

Steve rejected his mother at first, but eventually he had a tearful reunion with Andrea. But not before throwing up when he realizes he once french kissed his mother.

I'm convinced that Aaron Spelling only hired Gabby & kept her around because he didn't want his little princess Tori to be the homeliest one in the cast.

But did he succeed?

To try and blend into a HS when she resembled the moms. She was hideous and the character arc ridiculously stupid. She’s poor but smart so she gets to hang in 90210 , is class President and can get into an IVY league school on her brilliance yet this bitch doesn’t know to pop a pill or tell her rican boyfriend to wrap it up ? She lets herself get knocked up instead of going to Harvard? She doesn’t get an abortion when she professes to be a barcode feminist? And her hair screams BOISE not BEVERLY HILLS!

by Anonymousreply 49February 14, 2023 2:36 AM

I remember I was 10 when I first watched an episode of 90210. It was the episode where Brenda and Andrea were volunteering at a crisis call center and Brenda had that anonymous caller who kept calling about being date raped. I thought Andrea was one of the teachers.

Bh was not an area for orange groves. The closest groves were in the Valley.

by Anonymousreply 54February 14, 2023 7:17 AM

R53 beginning in season 4, basically all the storylines were multi episode, it had become*serialized", some storylines were DRAGGED out for a whole season, which back then for 90210 and Melrose Place was over 30 episodes, the season 6 Kelly and Colin story comes to mind as continuing on for over 30 episodes
