No. Jennifer Hudson was definitely a lock that year, but Anika Noni Rose should have also been nominated. But Beyonce was the weakest link. I appreciated that she played the part the right way and didn't try to out sing Jennifer Hudson (which she could have definitely come close. She had a much stronger voice than she used in the movie) but she was a wooden actor at best.

I disagree with the comments she doesn't have a strong voice. Definitely not JHud strong, but she held back significantly in Dream Girls because the part was of the girl with the weaker voice getting promoted because of her looks and not her talent. Beyoncé can sing. And it was probably humbling to have to hold back. So I give her props.

R22 Right, The director Bill Condon is on record saying this. His said her voice was dam powerful he almost considered not casting her. Beyonce is a brilliant vocalist and charismatic actress.

It was clear who was the more skillful vocalist when they all performed at the Oscar's ceremony. Jhud does have a powerful voice indeed but she had to scream for effect. Queen Bey perfectly executed her notes as well as Anika Rose.

R47, Anika Noni Rose has done fine with From Justin to Kelly on her resume. She did that in 2003 and still managed a Tony win the following year with Caroline, or Change. She's had some hits but she's never seemed to break through the stratosphere the way she should have. She was amazing in HBO's short lived and extremely well loved The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency but has mainly had small thankless parts (where she doesn't sing). But she's a great actress! Just getting thankless parts. She cousjve played JLC's tax auditor in EEAAO and she could have had an Oscar nom this year if they don't need her singing! I'm hoping that somebody has been working on some brilliant musical that will dominate the Tony's, get a move version, then a tv musical version, and a stellar cast album and she EGOTs in 18 months!! 😂

But truthfully, she did get a little lucky that she had a supporting role and it wasn't "From Justin, to Anika". THAT could've derailed her career.
