His Portuguese ancestry was really apparent when he way younger. If he was a bit shorter he'd look like an average guy you'd see on the streets of Lisbon.

Attractive in a boyish way (I love dark curly hair), but not "hot" or sexy. Maybe in some alternate universe where he never played characters like Forrest Gump and Mr. Rogers, but I just can't see him that way now.

Splash is the first movie where he was passably attractive and for the most part retained it for the rest of the 80s. By the early 90s the cuteness started to wear off a little and he started to look hardened. In the movie "A League Of Their Own" he had a weathered look to his face that wasn't there earlier, but Tom was never an ugly man by any means.
