There is no reason for this movie to exist. The original animated film is a classic with outstanding music by Menken and great lyrics by Ashman (RIP). And though it's impossible for some people to see beyond Ariel's pale skin, it already checked a diversity box by giving her red hair and having Ursula be based on a drag queen. I'm actually disappointed in Miranda for agreeing to do it.

on the same token, the sheer number of gay/bi characters (some even based on true stories) that were turned str8 in their hollywood films... it's odd that discussion doesn't come up anymore. no remakes offered.

Taking a very specifically Danish/Euro folk tale and making it a black girl was probably not the best idea.

Interestingly, the black audience doesn't even show up for these black remakes.
