The journalist is posting details of what's going on over on her other private twitter account which she locked down because people are saying she faked it. She hasn't accepted my follow request and I am *dying* to know what's going on. Does anyone follow her? She says she screencapped it in August last year has been trying to hunt down the guy who posted it ever since. People are saying she faked it but I don't think she did. It looks like an unedited screencap to me.

I think I have to correct myself a little at r2: there IS an investigation, sort of, but it's entirely by self-proclaimed "journalist" Sara Scarlett Wilson, who has three articles to her name, two of which are in Catholic journals and one of which is in a low-budget news website that just republishes stuff they find elsewhere.

"Sara" probably found mentions of Schmitz via Google searches (he's brought up on here regularly) and is now pretending to be a DLer and hoping people here will give her more info.

The chances of that post being true, or of the guy who wrote it still being here 8 years later, are very slim.

I can understand why she’s not published. Granted, it’s Twitter, but her grammar and punctuation are both poor.

Sara should have the link to the original post that the story was posted under, and if she does, it can be verified even if DL deleted all the old posts out of the archives. Nothing comes up with a text search on Google, but that's because it's been so long since the archives were purged.

If she won't give you the link then she faked it. I doubt she did, it sounds like the kind of "collaborative fiction" DL is supposedly all about. I'm almost positive she just found some guy's Nifty-esque story and, because she writes Catholic news articles, is trying to get herself a scoop.

The oldest video of his I could find was October 2015 but I'll take r20's word for it that he started in April 2015, and even then, by June he wouldn't have been well known.

Schmitz shows up on videos for some youth conferences in 2014 so I guess the poster in 2015 may have considered him to have a "strong following on social media" because of that, but I can't find a legit Facebook account for him (could have been deleted) and his tweets in 2015 were only getting minimal likes.

I once hooked up with a catholic priest while on vacation in Australia. He viewed it simply as a job with a good retirement - he actually said that. When I was in school I worked as a caterer/bartender and one of my employer’s accounts was the local Catholic Diocese. The bishop would always have the priests celebrating their 10/15/20/25 ordination anniversaries to his house in small groups for a cocktail hour and dinner.
