I'm 34. Do you think the country will see the first gay president in my lifetime.
Poll: The First Gay President

No. I think it's already seen it. Oh, you mean the first OPENLY gay...?

R1, yes very true. I'm always fascinated by scholars who are well versed in their personal lives of pre 20th century Presidents. Please post.

I'm 37. Maybe, if I live to be 77 there will be a gay president. I also wish a non-Christian would be elected president in my lifetime, but I doubt that it will happen.

When I was a teenager a friend asked me if I thought we would ever have a black president.
I said no way, America is too racist.
And what do you know? Across the Pacific in Hawaii, our first black president was also a teenager.
So in answer to your question, OP, before climate change kills everyone, who knows?
Maybe.

We have to survive the anti-gay reactionary backlash of the next 10 years and then it will happen.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 26, 2023 1:33 AM |
But, R8, what was it that caused this anti-gay reactionary backlash?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 26, 2023 1:38 AM |
We will have a First Woman President before a First Gay President.
And I vote for this successful young mother from Albuquerque. She is a go-getting achiever who all her friends describe as fabulous.

More deplorables need to kick the bucket for this to happen.
Like R8 says, give it another decade maybe.

A lot of the anti-gay issues in the U.S. are due to far-right religious loons.. If the US got to the point where most people are either non-religious or belonged to religious sects or communities that are gay friendly-then I could see an openly gay person being elected president.
When it comes to state-level politics, there are states that I doubt would ever elect an openly gay person as governor in my lifetime. In my crazy dreams, I like to imagine Ron DeSantis being an old man and seeing a gay person getting elected governor of Florida or other homophobes like Nikki Haley, Kristi Noem, etc being in their old age and seeing gay people elected governors of their states. I don't think it will happen in those states.
My best guesses for the next states to elect openly gay people governors in the next 20 years or so are probably California, Washington, New York, Vermont, and maybe Illinois. I live in New Mexico and I can't see a gay person being elected governor due to some of the very conservative Catholics or Evangelical/Protestant types around the state.

We will win soon.
We are increasing in numbers every year!
Almost 20% of Gen Z is gay!

Buchanan won this 170 years ago. And before him, George Washington.

R11, out of curiosity and off-topic: are you a lesbian?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 26, 2023 3:52 AM |
R5, after what you did, you couldn’t be elected president of the PTA.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 26, 2023 4:03 AM |
No, I don't want Lindsey Graham to be president.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 26, 2023 5:27 AM |
R15, yes I am.
But don’t tell anybody.

Your secret is safe with me, R18.
