Why don’t people have visible moles removed?
I know a beautiful woman who’s a blonde (boy natural but the color really suits her), but she has two big ass moles, one below her ear, the other on her neck. Very visible, very distracting.
In fact the one on her neck has this sort of reddish line around the connection point, almost like she gets it yanked by her shirt often.
It’s gross—and mars a gorgeous face. So, what the fuck is up with that? Why not remove that shit? Do some people consider it unique or beautiful? I’m not talking beauty marks btw. Not like Cindy Crawford. This is an intradermal nevus. A GROWTH.

I just watched Cunk on Earth (very funny!) and the host has a huge mole on her neck - I couldn’t stop staring at it and thought the same thing - it seems like it would be so annoying to her.

Croation singer Vlado Kalember looked like Johnny Depp when young, but was always ruined by giant face moles.

A lot of people don't know that you can just go to a regular doctor, tell them you think the mole has been getting bigger, and get it shaved off and biopsied. They stitch up the area and it heals in a couple days. Insurance generally covers it, but it isn't terribly expensive even without insurance. Of course, a neck mole might be in a more difficult area. Lots of pesky veins there.

Did it cross your mind for a second that maybe they don’t dislike it themselves? Or that they’re unbothered by something that’s fairly normal?

R6 I don’t think you can reasonably ask that question as if you’re innocent after immediately saying

Btw if I were you I wouldn’t expect ppl to pay much attention to any entire comment you make bc it’s such dreck lol.

R4 makes it sound so easy. But it's more like this:
First visit, tell primary care provider that you want mole removed, and PCP says, let's check that at your next visit.
Next visit you bring it up again. PCP gives you a referral to dermatologist.
You call the dermatologist, but they're not taking new patients. You find another one and contact your PCP to re-do the referral for the new derm. New dermatologist can see you in in 3 months.
First dermatology appointment. Doc looks you over, and finds another mole he thinks is more concerning. "Let's take care of this one first." It's removed and biopsied and the lab says it's benign.
Insurance refuses to pay for the visit and procedures because they say you didn't have a referral. After investigating, you discover the PCP didn't update the referral. The total is over $6000. You appeal and win, but it takes 7 months. Meanwhile, the dermatologist's office says you can't come back unless you pay the office visit. So you wait for insurance.
When the derm gets paid, you schedule a new appointment. It takes 2 months. Finally you get in and get that mole looked at. Your old dermatologist has left for a new practice that's not in-network. The new dermatologist says it's a benign growth and insurance won't pay for anything related to removal.

I work with a lady who has a giant mole right above her eye. It’s hideous & jarring yet we all act like it’s not there.
When I first met her, I felt deep compassion for her.
Then I got to know her. 😳
She’s probably the nastiest person I’ve ever worked with.

They aren't that easy to remove and they scar. I asked my plastic surgeon and dermatologist about removing a small intradermal nevus and they both said the same thing - either have it surgically excised or do something called a punch biopsy, which leaves a round wound, which is harder to stitch closed than an elliptical one so they actually have to cut it to make it elliptical. Then it will not heal scar free because this is something that requires at least one stitch. There's a significant likelihood that the scar will sit above the plane of the rest of your face, so then you are right back where you started, only now with a scar. The scar could also form a sort of flap that would be less cosmetically desirable than the intradermal nevus. Maybe if my face was already pockmarked or had texture issues I would consider it but my face is very even textured (smooth) and I do not want to risk it.

R13- That's annoying. I just went to my normal doctor for an annual checkup. I actually go to a sliding-scale clinic because I don't have insurance. He noticed that I had a fleshy mole on my arm, asked if it bothered me, I said yes, he asked if I wanted it removed, I said sure. I made a separate appointment. One week and $20 later it was gone. I haven't had a lot of great experiences as an uninsured person in the American healthcare system. But that one was notably easy.

R29- If you get it shaved off, versus having the quasi-surgical removal process, it doesn't really leave a scar. That is also probably why mine was so cheap. 🤷🏻

It depends on the mole and where it's at. Some are easy to get rid of and others aren't. And, as already been stated, it's a choice between annoying obvious mole and annoying obvious scar.
Also: some people don't really care what other people think about their faces.

A new guy at work had a horrid mole or something, round and pink, on his cheek. Very odd.
We got to talking and it turned out he was gay and he asked if I want to see it? I said, "What?" and he said to just come with him.
We went to a men's room and into a stall and he told me to touch it. It swelled a little, and I saw the center protrude more.
"Suck it," he ordered.

I had a mole beside my ear and one under my chin, both were about the circumference of a pencil eraser. I hated them and I asked my doctor if she could remove them. She did and had them biopsied, they weren't moles but skin tags. This was in Canada about 10 years ago, I'd probably have to pay now since it would be considered cosmetic. I also developed a mole/skin tag on the side of my hip, but it fell off before I could show it to a doctor.

General Practitioners are permitted to remove moles (in the US), but these days they usually don't. I went to Mexico and had them all removed in one visit for $75.

I went to high school with a girl who had some kind of growth on her head in the part of her hair that looked like OP's picture. It looked like a tiny brain protruding from her scalp and was disgusting to look at. She was also morbidly obese as a teenager and this was in the 90s when it wasn't as common as it is now, so maybe it had something to do with that. I don't know, but if was so gross I remember it thirty years later.

I went to a special cosmetic dermatologist to have some little skin tags removed. I was really surprised that he was then able to remove several moles, including a large one on my jaw. He just shaved them off. Here I had that thing on there for 40 years and it could have just been taken off at any time.
