Is it painful to die by accidentally falling off a bridge into water?

See title

by Anonymousreply 28February 6, 2023 8:06 PM

If the bridge is high enough it sure is painful.

by Anonymousreply 1February 6, 2023 1:34 PM

As far as I know nobody who ever died by accidentally falling off a bridge into water has complained about the pain

by Anonymousreply 2February 6, 2023 1:36 PM

I’ve heard bones are broken. But I guess you’re gone in a few min, so it’s not too bad. I’m more of a bag kinda guy myself tho.

Hitting the water from a high altitude is like hitting the ground.

by Anonymousreply 4February 6, 2023 1:41 PM

Reva, that wasn't an accident.

by Anonymousreply 5February 6, 2023 1:43 PM

You could try it and let us know.

If you're lucky, the impact will fracture your skull and kill you instantly, or at least knock you unconscious so you won't feel your death.

Ever belly flop into the pool and it hurt like hell?

by Anonymousreply 10February 6, 2023 2:26 PM

R9 But because it's San Francisco, the art preservation set won't allow the state to erect a fence, a wall, or a net to catch people who jump. It might alter the appearance of this beloved bridge.

So they're left with a waist-high barrier and numerous suicides every month.

by Anonymousreply 11February 6, 2023 2:32 PM

Scratch that. Looks like they are finally installing a net.

Humans have such a weird fascination with limiting each other’s personal freedoms.

by Anonymousreply 13February 6, 2023 2:56 PM

I watched a documentary about this years ago on Discovery or TLC and yes it fucking hurts because of physics. If you’ve ever jumped into water or did an awkward dive, it hurts. If you fall/ jump from a substantial height, as mentioned above you’re likely to get seriously injured and not be able to swim to safety or even stay afloat, so even if you survive the impact you’d drown. It’s not a good death.

Meanwhile California and others are pushing hard to normalize suicide

R15 More inequality and oppression for me!

by Anonymousreply 16February 6, 2023 4:00 PM

Fuck off, thread-proferating troll.

Check the mode out yourself and then compare it to a grease fire.

by Anonymousreply 17February 6, 2023 4:02 PM

Personally, I’d like to have the option of assisted suicide IF I had an incurable terminal condition like dementia that would otherwise cause me pointless suffering. I also would like it if we put more effort and resources into making life better for people who could benefit from it rather than driving them to self-harm.

Yes the impact can be so hard you basically turn your internal organs into mush and bleed internally very heavily (also pretty sure you bleed externally pretty heavily too). Like others have said if you break your spinal cord on impact you probably won't feel anything as you'll be completely paralysed but it isn't always an instant death and it could potentially be extremely painful and prolonged before you actually die.

I hope you are doing ok and not actively considering this OP.

by Anonymousreply 19February 6, 2023 4:46 PM

I think California should allow people to jump but charge a hefty use fee.

If you can’t beat them, monetize them.

by Anonymousreply 20February 6, 2023 4:49 PM

If you get drunk enough before you jump, nothing hurts no matter what, OP

by Anonymousreply 21February 6, 2023 4:56 PM

R20 Good luck collecting from a corpse.

Californians are so stupid.

by Anonymousreply 22February 6, 2023 5:18 PM

I live near a bridge in southern MD that become a popular spot for jumpers. Being terrified of heights, there are few things I can think of more terrifying than jumping off that bridge. I don't even like driving over that bridge. There have been a couple of jumpers that initially survive, but die later after being fished out by the cops.

by Anonymousreply 23February 6, 2023 5:24 PM

Are you contemplating suicide because of your nose, OP?

by Anonymousreply 24February 6, 2023 5:33 PM

R18-☝️

by Anonymousreply 25February 6, 2023 5:34 PM

That was meant as an endorsement of R18's post. Not the intervening ones.

by Anonymousreply 26February 6, 2023 5:36 PM

Not painful, but you can get kicked out of Nick's bar for ordering a drink light on thr cloves.

by Anonymousreply 27February 6, 2023 6:56 PM

R15 Jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge is the equivalent of a wire hanger for an abortion. If people who wanted to die had places they could go to with no stigma attached, get counselling they might need or a safe and harmless way to go, the world might be a peaceful place.
